Uninsured Americans are showing more interest in the coverage offered under President Barack Obama's healthcare law despite technical problems that have hindered enrollment through a government website, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The glitches have crippled HealthCare.gov, the new online insurance marketplace meant to serve people in 36 states, frustrating millions of would-be applicants since it opened for enrollment on October 1.
The poll's findings are good news for Obamacare supporters who worry the problems and bad press could dissuade people from signing up, particularly the young and healthy who are crucial to diversifying the pool of insured and keeping premiums down.
The uninsured view the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, more favorably since online marketplaces opened - 44 percent compared with 37 percent in September, according to the Reuters/Ipsos poll. It found that 56 percent oppose the program compared with 63 percent in September.
A higher proportion of the uninsured also said they are interested in buying insurance on the exchanges, with 42 percent in October, saying they were likely to enroll compared with 37 percent in September. The results have a credibility interval, a measure of accuracy, of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
Of course as I, and others, have documented this is in spite of a constant barrage of criticisms and attempts to sabotage the program coming from the Right Wing since the day the law was passed.
Recently it was discovered that there have even been attempts to overload the website in order to keep people from signing up for ACA.
Yet despite all of that Americans continue to demonstrate that ultimately the program will likely be a success, which of course is the fear that continues to drive the Right Wing to extreme attempts to undermine it, derail it, or sabotage it.
Especially out of fear it will be a success before the 2014 election cycle.
Fucking trolls would try to overwhelm it, wouldn't they?
ReplyDeleteAlaska Commons does a nice expose on who is behind the KnowtheFactsAlaska.org that has been popping up on Facebook feeds. I was glad to see that many users were skeptical of this site's motives. We all don't believe what is told to us, a lot of us research to make our decisions and Know the Facts, like Alaska AFP (Americans for Prosperity) who has the nerve to call themselves a premier grassroots org of citizens (translate, Koch Brothers.)

The coldness and calculated attempts to derail this program really disgust me. What would our country be like today if we had politicians (and their owners) actually working for the benefit of the people in this country.
ReplyDeleteThey even were doing Obamacare jokes at the Country Music Awards last night. Red meat for the musically incurious.
ReplyDeleteThis is not yet confirmed but it appears the right-wing may have used hacker software to attack the Affordable Care Act sites: http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/11/new-denial-of-service-attack-aimed-directly-at-healthcare-gov/
ReplyDeleteThe far right really will stop at nothing to get their way and that includes denying people in need the services that could help them. Yup...these are the good people in the Tea Party...those good Christian folks....
The obstructionist Republican party is going to 'eat crow' over this issue and it's going to be so much fun to watch!!!!
ReplyDeleteVote them out of office every chance you get Americans!!!
Lol, according to the GOP no one who doesn't have healthcare wants it and yet again the GOP was wrong.
ReplyDeleteFYI
ReplyDeleteIf you know someone that wants to sign up and they will not qualify for financial assistance, let them know they. can go directly to individual carriers or even to an insurance agent. The plans are the same, in fact, there are a few more plans available that way. That will take the overload off of the site for people that do need assistance.
MAP: The 5 Million People The GOP Cut Out Of Obamacare
ReplyDeleteStarting Jan. 1, nearly five million people who were supposed to be covered under Obamacare won’t be because their states have refused to expand Medicaid.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/medicaid-expansion-map-obamacare-losers
Thank you for the link, this is the first time I have read anything about this problem and it is exactly what happened to me, in addition to the cancelled policy
Delete"4.8 million Americans won't be covered as the law intended in those non-expanding states. They don't qualify for Medicaid now, but would have under the expansion, and they don't make enough money to qualify for financial help to buy private coverage. They're Obamacare's other losers, while media coverage focuses on those people whose individual policies are being canceled under the law.
Good old King Rick MI Rethug, is waiting until April 2014 to expand Medicaid, until then I "get to pay" the full amount for coverage!!!!

Top House Democrat Rips Darrell Issa For Spreading Lies About Healthcare.gov Website
ReplyDelete...It is no surprise to anyone that Darrell Issa is trying to use the ACA website to create a new Obama scandal, and lying everytime that he opens his mouth. The good news is that Democrats aren’t letting him get away with spreading his consistent half and untruths. Issa has been discredited by being caught in so many lies that only a partisan propaganda shop like Fox News should be willing to have him on the air.
Rep. Issa is going to keep lying, but Democrats will be here to smack him down. Issa wants the same thing that he always. He is trying to manufacture a smoking gun that will allow him to pursue impeaching President Obama. Darrell Issa’s latest attempt to drum up an Obama scandal is fading with a whimper thanks to Rep. Elijah Cummings.

After awhile, all the GOP whinefests starts sounding like white noise. They wasted forty something votes on defunding delaying repealing and/or microwaving the bill. Where I live, pharmacies, insurance companies and democratic politicians all have information on the available plans printed on real paper, and they can't keep up with keeping enough in stock. The beauty is that you're asked for ID so they know it isn't people just schlepping in to sabotage the process.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it sucks that the website isn't up, but people will find the information they need, and once the website glitches are fixed, The ACA will prove to be a success.
The GOP isn't exactly offering a palatable alternative, makes you wonder what they're thinking.
