Mitt Romney eliminated Chris Christie as a running mate and mocked him due to his weight.

Courtesy of HuffPo:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was on Mitt Romney's vice presidential short list initially, but the GOP nominee took him off in part because of his weight.

In their new book Double Down, journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann reveal that one of the reasons Romney quickly eliminated Christie as a running mate was that he was bothered by his lack of physical fitness.

"Romney marveled at Christie’s girth, his difficulties in making his way down the narrow aisle of the campaign bus," the authors write. "Watching a video of Christie without his suit jacket on, Romney cackled to his aides, 'Guys! Look at that!'"

The Romney campaign had dubbed its search for a vice presidential nominee "Project Goldfish," and Christie was stuck with the code name "Pufferfish," according to a report on the book by The Washington Post.

Wow, as if we needed another reason to think that Mitt Romney was an asshole.

Look I am somebody who looks at Christie and worries that he may be unhealthy at that size, but to openly ridicule him is just cruel.

  1. Oh, I can easily imagine him mocking someone because of their weight. And I don’t think Christie comes from a wealthy family, unlike Ryan, and that puts him on the outside. Christie may be a bully, but it’s easy to follow his thoughts, unlike Romney and Ryan who seem pampered and squirrely.

No, Christie does come from a working class family but he sure discovered early on to how to make and raise the big bucks. He pretends to be Everyman but I think he's just acting.

Yes, and so many of them seem to be bullies and elitist. I truly pity Mormon women and girls in general. They seem to be dominated and have so few opportunities to be independent. Yes, Mitt and Queen Ann, believe it or not, one can be independent AND happily married.

As an ex-mo (who was born and raised), I can attest that the mormon men I knew were manipulative cowards who had to put down and talk big to people so they could feel superior. Women, children, overweight, "ugly." It's a traditional mormon joke that "only the ugly women who can't get husbands go on missions." As soon as the other person stands up to defend themselves, it's crickets. They're bullies. Plain and simple.

Mormon "religion" is simply sexist. Women are not equal to the almighty men who keep them in the subservient role.

      So,

Sarah Palin was basically the same guy as Mittens...minus the guts to run

What was your Teddy Roosevelt quote about those who stayed OUTSIDE THE ARENA, sarah?

You are so fucking ridiculous, palin.

Cruel indeed. But we knew that from the haircutting incident at the pricu private igh school. How different might Romney have been ahd he been properly expelled after that instead of allowed to think his actions were jsut fine (and SO Christian too.)

Well, it's already been established that Mitt is a bully and an animal abuser, so it's not at all surprising to learn that he would say such a thing. He's a prep school kid in a grown up body. Just ask Queen Anne, she always talks about ALL her 'boys'. He's a really fucked up guy, that Mitt. He's mean, cruel and cold and that is what the American people saw when they DIDN'T put him in the White House, thank god.

Bastard. He better not try to run again...

  5. Halperin and Heilemann got many things wrong in this book (especially the Clinton for VP discussion) - I wouldn't quote them as having the truth on anything from 2012. Turning rumor into their own truths is what media pundits do.

Christie well knew he wasn't fit enough for a country wide campaign, didn't need anyone from Romney's campaign to tell him - hence his current procedure/process for weight loss.

Cannot understand why NJ votes for him - he is anti women, anti the poor & hasn't done much of a job with the billions he got for reconstruction.

I'm from NJ...and I don't understand it either. He can be rude and abrasive, and he's on the wrong side of nearly every issue. Dems are not running a strong opponent, so it looks as if we will have Emperor Sandwiches for another 4 years. Ugh.

Such a kind man. Still wondering how he with his lovely wife by his side could have possibly lost the election.
We were so lucky to have dodged the bullet 2 presidential elections in a row.
Christie is going to win by a wide (honestly, no pun intended) margin this Tuesday which will be some proof of his appeal to Democrats and Independents. I hope the GOP base base continues to push for nominating a RWNJ instead of an electable RINO.

Sorry, but I disagree. The governor's appeal in NJ is one thing (they are, after all, rational and largely informed voters) but to suppose that he would appeal nationally to democrats and independents is, I think, a bridge too far. He'd be booed off the stage in places like Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. He'd be ridiculed in places like Kansas and Tennessee, And so one and so on. He has LIMITED appeal, an unpleasant and confrontational demeanor and is not nice to look at! I certainly abhor dismissing someone because they are heavy, short, bald, dentally challenged, etc. but this is the way many judge a candidate. Romney probably emerged as the default candidate and was not unattractive nor overtly elitist or bigoted (except behind closed doors) so he'd do, Remember how soundly he was rejected by democrats and independents? I predict that the eventual nominee will be either Jeb Bush or a so-called moderate from a midwestern or western state. But wait!!! There are NO moderates in the GOP anymore.

Like many rich, spoiled kids born with a platinum spoon in their mouth, Romney has a long history of snobbish and stupid comments and deeds.

Like pinning down a kid in his posh private high school and cutting off his hair.

Like saying that 47 percent of ALL AMERICANS think of themselves as nothing but victims, and that they take no responsibility for their own lives.

C'mon, have a heart, Gryphen. Hasn't this shockingly inadequate man suffered enough humiliation without you and the small handful of libtard deadenders who still visit your defuunct blog piling on?

Can you not picture a profoundly angry, defeated and chastened Mittens spends hours each day sitting in his black 2009 Cadillac Escalade (vanity license plate HL2DCHF) glumly listening to the Sade CD he got as a gag Christmas gift in 1993 and pointlessly riding the car elevator to nowhere?

I promise you this: if/when Mittens runs again for presdient you're going to see a kinder, gentler, less douchier - but no more successful - candidate. I promise.

"Like saying that 47 percent of ALL AMERICANS think of themselves as nothing but victims, and that they take no responsibility for their own lives."

And then he lost, he and Ann have done nothing but whine about being victims and accept no responsibility for losing. They're phony elitists who thought (still think) it's "their turn".

I'm sure Mitt and Ann thought Chris Christie was beneath them but I also think that Mitt was afraid of Christie. Christie is out-spoken and not a yes man. Mitt wouldn't be able to tolerate someone like that on his ticket. Mitt and Ann are junior high-school mean girls.

The Today Show said yesterday that Romney also dropped Christie from consideration for VP for his past questionable lobbying and his medical history problems.

They didn't specifically say "weight" issue, which lead me to believe he also may be diabetic or pre-diabetic and could have heart trouble.

Doesn't his wife Mary Pat work for Wall St. and didn't she have a recent scandal about non-payment of Sandy donations she was in charge of? I seem to remember that.
What were Christie's past lobbying scandals?

    2. Anonymous4:56 AM

Folks that obtain that surgery have to make life changes in how they eat. He's been doing it horribly for years, so I'm sure he's probably finding it very difficult. I know folks that have lost a substantial amount of weight after surgery and then gain the majority of it back.
It's not full proof by any means.

I think he has dropped some weight when you compare the photo above to a current one today. But, it's not a dramatic weight loss - perhaps doing it slower is better and smarter?

He has lost a lot of weight. It takes time.

If your belly is banded, you literally can not eat too much or you throw up.

You need to take vitamins to stay healthy looking, but he is losing weight every week.

Many would NOT vote for Christie today due to his obesity. He is not healthy and would possibility die in office due to the stress and whatever disease has already started in his obese body.

Plus, he is nasty and a bully which would never go over well w/other countries in our world.

President Obama is a fine example of the POTUS! Physically fit, exercises and is calm in nature when he should be out there yelling and screaming 'fuck you' to the Republicans that have obstructed him since his first day in office! Thank God he is our President! Love him, love him (and his family!).

A lot east coasters call Christie "Gov Chrispie Creme", but I'd LOVE to see the report Mitt the shitt has on his health. Morbid obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and heart problems usually go together, and not necessarily in that order.
I know someone who passed on from complications of morbid obesity, so I am particularly aware that the operation he had isn't a cure all. People learn to cheat, even with the surgery, and continue to hurt their health.
I don't mind making fun of his weight of his bullying constituents on the boardwalk, then when disaster strikes, he becomes "Mr Compassionate". If his weight didn't bother him nor effect his performance as a Governor, why did he go on all the shows to blast people for mentioning the obvious, then secretly get the surgery done and zip his lips about the subject?
