A&E beefs up security in response to death threats over the firing of the Duck Dynasty homophobe.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

A&E Network has had to beef up security at its New York headquarters after receiving death threats and suspicious packages from people enraged about the network’s decision to suspend Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson.

Apparently GLAAD, the organization that officially contacted A&E to protest Robertson's remarks, has also received quite a lot of blowback:

In the fallout over Wednesday’s suspension of “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson by A&E for anti-gay and racist remarks, GLAAD is experiencing record levels of backlash.

“In the five-and-a-half years I’ve worked at GLAAD, I’ve never received so many violently angry phone calls and social media posts attacking GLAAD for us speaking out against these comments,” the media watchdog organization’s vice president of communications Rich Ferraro told TheWrap.

He said those reactions range from those who simply believe as Robertson believes to those who feel that GLAAD and A&E’s actions limit the reality star’s free speech.

Gotta love those Christians!

Whatever happened to taking the high road and letting God punish the sinners?

I don't know why everybody's in such an uproar about Phil expressing his opinion - it says right there in the Constitution that he has the right to say whatever he wants to without fear of consequences.

    ...doesn't it?

No it doesn't. The right to freedom of speech allows individuals to express themselves without interference or constraint by the government. A&E is not the government and is free to exercise it's own rights.

Well, Randall, it seems that when Martin Bashir, Bill Maher or David Letterman expressed their opinions Sarah Palin was hopping mad, called for them to be fired and worse. If people describe what a terrible governor Sarah Palin was (she quit you know) or repeat the gossip that she might be getting a divorce, she has a lawyer threaten the person with a lawsuit. You can't have it both ways.
You can say what you want, but you have to be prepared to face the consequences of what you say. The Constitution never said "no consequences."

In what has to be the shortest "season" in television history, this season of Duck Dynasty ended last night in an hour of awesomeness…Hawaiian style. Willie, Si, Jase, and Phil treat their family to a much needed island vacay, and, as always, hilarity ensues.

Religious freedom is one of the United States’ founding principles, protected by the First Amendment and other federal laws. The right against religious discrimination is likewise one of our basic civil rights. When Congress enacted the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 at the height of the civil rights movement, in addition to barring discrimination based on race, national origin, and sex in a wide range of areas, it also barred discrimination based on religion.

I'm not sure how I'm misinterpreting our rights? Phil is protected. Not sure how A&E is going to get away with putting someones feelings above a mans civil rights? That being said, can people stop doing stupid crap like threatening lives. Someone always makes us all look like crazy idiots. People aren't intelligent enough to see the supporters as individuals. I've read the comments. These groups are the most prejudice people I've ever seen. We're all ONE! In their minds. Represent Phil with class and sanity, please.

All of the members of the Robertson family, as well as series regulars John Godwin and Justin Martin, are active members of the White's Ferry Road Church of Christ. Phil and his oldest son Al (who doesn't appear on the show) serve as church elders. Friends and relatives estimate that Phil Robertson has baptized more than 300 people in the river near his home, the Ouachita River.

The Robertsons have the same religious zealots behind them as the Heath/Palin frauds. They know how to rile up their crazies.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous8:43 PM

Rile up the crazies? They're fighting their own battle. They're not responsible for anyone else. And why do you use Religious zealot negatively? The Bible does say Homosexuality is a sin. In every mention of a marriage it's between man and woman. You would see more about homosexuality, but it's not something that needs to be beat over anyone's head. It's common sense. To further prove my point, the Bible mentions bestiality ( an awful act) less times than homosexual acts, and it mentions sexual immorality with a parent equal to the number of times it mentions homosexual behavior. The bible talks about people dying from sexual immorality. Take heed, the last time 21 thousand died in one day. In revelations it talks about putting a woman in bed and making everyone sick who lays with her. What does that sound like to you? People want to believe the Bible is fake, but most scriptures in NT are true to what we see today. Those who say The Bible is vague, must have a comprehension deficit. It's not vague. Homosexuality, adultery, fornication, lying, and being indifferent to sin is an Abomination to God. People do get disease from sexual immorality. We see that. We know that. You can say people are being silly when they say it affects homosexuals the most, but that is a fact. A medical fact. The bible says many things that we can see today. Many. Information that cannot be predicted.

These are hate expressions of other people's rights. All I have to say is thanks to Sarah Palin and John McCain who started all this hate. McCain allowed Sarah to take the stage during his campaign and start all this and gather all these hate followers. Remember, our President hang around with terrorists, just the beginning. This is only going to get worse.

'Duck Dynasty': A&E warned Phil Robertson about speaking out too much

Anyone looking at the "Duck Dynasty" uproar may wonder why A&E didn't warn Phil Robertson about the dangers of talking too much to reporters.

But it now looks like they did.

...The scandal has turned into the kind of tempest network executives feared all along. A&E knew of Robertson's controversial views - expounded in videotaped sermons and elsewhere - before the show premiered in spring 2012, and warned him not to overshare on hot-button topics such as gay rights and race relations, according to a producer familiar with the situation. Phil and other family members also probably signed contracts containing "morals clauses" in which they promised to, among other things, avoid anything that would embarrass or bring shame to A&E or the brand. Such clauses are standard in the entertainment and sports industries.

In essence, the network was asking Phil - a man of legendary individuality, who once passed up an opportunity to sign with the NFL because it might interfere with his hunting - to be somewhat less Phil-like. But that is the kind of wobbly bargain that reality TV producers have been forced to make. If they bought the show, they were getting a volatile personality in the mix. A&E could of course have walked away - but that would have meant passing over a potential TV phenomenon, which is what the Robertsons became.

For some time, Phil Robertson held up his end of the speak-no-evil bargain. But that's over now, obviously...

I kind of wonder if this whole "whoops, spoke too candidly" controversy isn't just a ploy to get moved to a different network in order to be allowed to promote their true views more. I mean, they meet up with $P, then there's this scandal, the family says if Phil goes the rest of us go, and now Palin and her oversexxxed daughter are setting bait for Fuck Dynasty to go to another channel. I read that the Duck people were upset about several aspects of the show, so i guess that was an easy way out of their contract?

    3. Anita Winecooler8:32 PM

A&E must have been aware of his proclivity toward grabbing the soapbox and spouting hate, or they wouldn't have warned him/ had him sign something in writing agreeing to their wishes. They're affiliations take this stuff seriously. Disney had gone out of it's way to be inclusive of all faiths/sexual orientations/nationalities and races.
Why would his employer get death threats if his "followers" are true big "C" Christians? Last I heard, killing was a big taboo, so big, it got it's own place in the ten Commandments.
The DD may have raked in the big bucks, but who would pick them up NOW? Who wants to deal with blowback, hatred, and the extra expense of beefing up security. The DD was at it's apex, it's all downhill now, unless CBN or FOX hires him for his "true talents".

The hypocrisy of picking and choosing what "Christianity" is, just to sell a reality show. Daily Kos has a great article on the before and after pics of the Duck Dynasty, ie before reality and after "reality". It's my understanding the the right to free speech, as it applies to the 1st amendment, applies to the Government suppressing it's citizen's speech. Phil's comments, the statement made by GLAAD, and A & E's resulting decision were expressions of free speech expressed by private citizens. It had NOTHING to do with Government's suppression of the 1st amendment. The Chick-fillet thing (or what ever it's called) was the same deal. Sigh..
Limbaugh and many of his followers also don't understand that one does not have to be gay
to find Robertson's vicious and hate filled rants to be repugnant.
According to the 2010 census , the number of
gay people in the US is 9 million .
Which is actually larger than the recent DD audiences and probably larger than Limbaugh's shrunken audience.
It's estimated that there are 400,000 people in the US with Down Syndrome.
By Limbaugh's " logic " it's ok to disparage them because there numbers are few.
Dog the Bounty Hunter and his family often prayed before going out to bring in a bond jumper.
In fact, Dog often tried to help those he captured and always treated them with respect and kindness.

with kindness and compassion like Dog.
Their 24 / 7 lifeblood appears to be hate , anger ,intolerance
    meanness ,spite and threats.
    And abortion and gays.
When his show was involved in controversy,

o/t Will Bristol Palin have her own PAC one day? I don't keep up with her blog but her link with the Duch Dynasty post now has 631 Comments. Her previous post was 18 Comments. Is that usual for her blog? Why Nancy French is giving Bristol Palin a boost: Bristol Palin: Why she backs Duck Dynasty patriarch's views on homosexuality
Bristol Palin backs Phil Robertson's criticism of homosexuality on the grounds of free speech. Bristol Palin wrote that American should "let people hold beliefs that you might make you uncomfortable."

There is nothing positive about all the deception and lies that fill up that so called opinion blog. Have you read all the attacks she does? Of course, cult members are in denial. However, those with eyes to see can read her false narratives as excuses to to disparage others.

It is not even Bristol. She is a total tool and someone else does it in her name. Yes, she is responsible for allowing herself to be used.

If you can link to where she is active and can speak for herself we can see/hear the difference in the actual Bristol and the fake on at the Bristol Palin Blog.

What Bristol or a "fan" calls a normal life looks like secrets and fear. To most of the world Bristol hides when she is not being used in one of those public failures she does. You are only saying that 'Bristol has a hidden fearful life.' She is being used for that 'opinion blog' and there is little positive about what Nancy French and her boss do under Bristol's name. The 'normally working her normal job' bull is a big red flag for some poor thing doing repetitive propaganda for a criminal enterprise.

That is, they believe that anyone who does not believe in the literal translation of the bible will go to hell, and they state this with venom in their voice (while "loving" the sinner, ha). Hippocratic because they seem to choose to pick and choose which crazy thing to quote from the bible.

They and their followers should also acknowledge the murder and mahem that "God" wrought in the Bible. And, they might also acknowledge the messages of humility, love and restraint from judgement that should be the model of a true Christian (or person, period.)

I can't decided who the troll is, the hair stylist or the skin care gal, neither of whom value education and fit the description perfectly-- " the way elitests or just some democrats look down on people who choose to support themselves without expensive college careers is EQUALLY disgusting."

Phil Robertson gave an interview where he talked about the value of repentance, yet he did not repent for beating up some guy and his wife in Arkansas. No repentance. His wife paid them off. No regrets, he doesn't look back.

Robertson has no business judging other people, non-Christians, homosexuals, or people who do not repent. And no one is judging you, honey, for not having a college degree or being a well-rounded person. What we do judge you for is spouting off regularly here, accusing people of manipulation, being haters, judging people while you are judging people. Take care of your kids and grow up, and try leading your life in private instead of publicizing it all the time. You are selling yourself cheaply.

9:55 AM All that about being born again is part of a religion that some people believe. Not all Christians are born again. Most human beings do judge one way or another. If someone tells me they are born again, that is fine for them. I don't necessarily believe them, even if they believe that. I am not some final judge, but I do make judgements. I can also discern. Sometimes when one hears those lines like don't judge another, it sounds like an excuse. I do not want to be a judgemental person but that doesn't mean I can't ever judge. Why can't people be judged for their opinions? People are judged for how they dance. Why not how they opine?

      This from People Magazine
      http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20767508,00.html
"But Robertson also touches on a life-changing incident from his past. During the 1970s, Robertson fled Arkansas after he badly beat up a bar owner and his wife. Robertson's wife, Kay, persuaded the couple not to press charges in exchange for most of the Robertsons' life savings. "I just put it behind me," Robertson says of the ordeal.
With his past behind him, Robertson considers himself born again."

He may have written more in a book but he doesn't mention any amends or restitution in what I read. It sounds like Robertson atacked up a couple, his wife bought them off and they ran. No, that isn't the same as coming to terms, feeling remorse, sincerely apologizing and restitution. Robertson should have acted responsible for his actions and clearing up his mistakes. If he didn't do what makes one human and he only had a woman, his wife, buy a couple off for him and he ran away that is way different. He can consider himself born again or whatever, that's his head trip. Not everyone will buy his story. He sounds like a coward to me. He may well be one of those people that use born again like a get out of jail free card.

I grew up in the south of the 1960's, where Blacks could not go through the front doors of some establishments. We were forced to use the "colored" bathrooms and water fountains even at the County Courthouse, a government facility. So this whole bullshit about Black people being "happy" in Louisiana is totally false. This peckerwood cracker Phil Robertson is a fucking liar, and he's supposed to be a minister? I hope it all gets exposed. the way that Sarah sends traffic to Nancy, oh yeah, they say it is Bristol. How long until Bristol gets her Pac? They are sure padding her resume, fake resume.

Sarah has as much on Fox News as McCain. I think everyone is afraid of her. She will turn on anyone who gets in her way. I think she has slept with all the men she has been associated with, McCain, Hannity, Greta's husband, etc. just so they will never turn on her. She has nothing to lose, Todd will stay with here till the end and the other wives will divorce their spouses.

That is a technique that works. Something Todd would approve.

A and E is facing Orwellian Death Panels from, I suppose, Radical Right Christians with Lawyers who think once you're hired by a company, they have to keep you on their payroll when you mouth off and offend anyone with half a brain and common sense.

Where, in the Bible, does it say "Kill thy Neighbor" if they disagree with your hate speech? "Free Speech" doesn't cover yelling "Fire" in a movie theater, I wonder if the same holds true for firing squads?

Repubs and fake Christians have experience rewriting history. Don't be surprised if they rewrite the Bible to their liking. They will add "Kill thy Neighbor" with an amendment or two. It is how they roll.
