Nearly one million signed up for health care through the Obamacare exchanges from December 1 through the 24th.

Courtesy of Politico:

Nearly 1 million people signed up for health insurance through the federal Obamacare exchanges between Dec. 1 and the Dec. 24 deadline for getting coverage by the start of the new year, according to figures released by the administration Sunday.

The 975,000 people who enrolled during that window bring the total number of federal sign-ups to more than 1.1 million since the rocky rollout of the government’s Healthcare.gov website on Oct. 1.

“We experienced a welcome surge in enrollment as millions of Americans seek access to affordable health care coverage through new Health Insurance Marketplaces nationwide,” Marilyn Tavenner, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, wrote in a blog post announcing the numbers.

Tavenner reported a late spike in enrollment in which the last few days before the deadline saw nearly twice as many people sign up as had done so in the first three weeks of the month.

This of course was the what was predicted all along by the administration.

And from here on the numbers will only start increasing.

On a personal note I really wish I was one of these 975,000 but I'm not.

I tried to be. I signed up for the exchange, started putting in my information in order to find the best rate for insurance, only to discover that the website thought that my birth date meant that I was not eighteen years old yet. It literally asked me to find an adult in the home to assist me.

I tried to get somebody to help but this was only a few days before the deadline and I got nobody.

Anyhow I will totally try again once a personal family matter has been dealt with, and this time I will stick with it until I get the goddamn Obamacare I voted for in two different elections.

I talked to a family member today who works for an insurance company. She said she is spending hours on the phone at work talking to people and trying to unravel the lies that have been told about the ACA by conservatives and the media. She is dealing with very low income, low information people in a red state full of ignoramuses. The same people call her over and over asking her to repeat the information about what they qualify for because they can't believe they will actually have health care that will actually cover their illnesses for the first time in their lives. And they are incredulous about how little they will have to pay. These are people who have been taken to the cleaners by insurance companies, paying huge amounts for very little coverage. No wonder the Republicans are trying to kill it. I think we should have a game to predict who will be the first Republican to try take credit for it and when.

      LOL! Ain't gonna happen, loser.

Obamacare is here to stay. President Obama has done nothing that would or could warrant impeachment. FINALLY this country is heading in the correct direction...progressive.

      So, see, like I said....loser.

The Republican plan of running against Obamacare is in freefall today as HHS announced that 975,000 people signed up for health insurance in December alone.

...The entire Republican strategy has been to discourage people from enrolling in the ACA Judging by these numbers, they have completely failed. Republicans are basing their entire 2014 and 2016 strategies on running against Obamacare. Their plan is backfiring, and they are setting themselves up for an epic backlash.

Millions of Americans have now signed up for access to affordable healthcare. Republicans, especially Republican Senate candidates, are going to be in a position of having to tell voters in 2014 that their plan is to take away their healthcare.

So why do you hate college kids?

OBAMACARE is killing off a college plague: junk student insurance

One type of junk health insurance that the ACA is doing away with is the kind of crappy policy that many colleges used to push on their students.

Well, I must disagree with Anonymous 3:28. Millions haven't signed up...it us approx 1.1 Million.

Second, this was pushed through illegally. A different bill name Affodable Care Act was passed in the house, stripped and replaced with the current info, called the same thing, and passed by the Senate. It should have been blue slipped back to the house, but instead was sent to the prez.

Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself, like I did. Go to the source...not just some blogger.

Also, this shows that there are still faults with the website. I am STEAMING mad that they would give this contract to a foreign country, not look at its history (therefore oblivious to the fact that they screwed up one of Canadas registries), and not be competent enough to make sure that it goes properly upon release.

Now the gov't has to pay to fix it. I'm not happy.

By the way, we still don't know the demographic of who signed up.

Seeing the positive changes brought by the federal health law

Despite a troubled rollout, as many as 20 million people have gained access to coverage. But GOP lawmakers have blocked wider access to Medicaid, and House Republicans' hostility is making it impossible to fix flaws.

Before this was passed, many of these flaws were brought up. Those people who tried to bring it up, and fix them, were called everything in the book, laughed at, and dismissed.

So, all of the Dems that refused to try and fix first (maybe they believed Pelosi-you have to pass it to find out what's in it), wouldn't consider changing one word in it, should be voted out, and replaced with people willing to listen, and at the very least consider, that there can be fixes to a pet law, regardless of who suggests those changes!

ALL the problems with the rollout were caused by states refusing to do their part. Look at Minnesota or California or the others that did their part. The federal site was ONLY meant to direct people to their states site and too many fucking ignorant racist republican governors sat on their fat asses.

    Robin Roberts Comes Out

"Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts came out Sunday in a touching post thanking her "long time girlfriend."

Roberts disclosed the relationship in a Facebook post in which she reflected on the past year. On Dec. 29, 2012, the news anchor celebrated 100 days post bone marrow transplant during her battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.

"At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude," Roberts wrote. "I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together."

Amber Laign is a licensed massage therapist from the San Francisco Bay Area, according to People magazine. She and Roberts met through mutual friends and have been together for 10 years.

"I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold," Roberts continued. "On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too."

CNN's Brian Stelter noted that this is the first time Roberts has spoken publicly about her sexual orientation.

Still doesn't help those of us with such low income that we don't qualify for anything under ACA. We need the Medicaid expansion.
I am not Alaska Native, so the "free Native healthcare" doesn't help me.

My husband is both a Vet (qualifies for VA), and a senior citizen (qualifies for Medicare). I am neither.

We live on his Social Security.

  10. I notice it is being referred to as the Affordable Care Act more and more.

That tells you it is working and the Republicans don't want Obama to get any credit for it.

I've been paying for a basic high deductible policy for my young adult daughter. Not easy on my salary, but I knew she needed coverage in case of a major illness or accident. I was 22 and without insurance when a car crashed into mine while I was stopped at a red light. It took more than a year to return to normal and employable. The medical bill collectors were relentless, and I had to go through a personal injury lawsuit (not fun) to get the bills paid while still in pain and not functioning well. The settlement wasn't big, but it paid off the collectors and gave me a little cushion to regain a life. Stuff happens, even to the healthy young.

Now under ACA, my daughter qualifies for expanded Medicaid. The policy is excellent! It covers all the little things that lead to a healthy life. No waiting for an emergency room visit.

The only snag is the time lag. She won't be official approved until mid-January, although it will be retroactive. If not approved, she's back in the ACA marketplace. If that happens, I can still pay for her policy, but it's not the crap I have been buying. It actually provides preventative care, routine office visits, and so forth. AND costs less than the crapper I had been buying.

I live in a blue state. We have expanded Medicaid. My heart breaks for those in the red states that want the ACA fail and are happy to destroy it over the bodies of its residents by refusing care to low income people..

I had a helluva time getting it done. It took many calls, but I'm finally signed up and waiting to hear from Cigna. My coverage starts the first of February because I couldn't get through by deadline. After the deadline had expired, I got through Somehow they said they had 4 applications for me when I only applied once, then someone on the phone said I had to apply again since my first application was in October. How they ended up with 4, I don't know I finally got someone who was better and she got rid of the other apps because I had already been approved for tax credits. Good luck Gryphen, persistence pays off. I have read they had a hard time getting it going in MA too when it first started.. The Republicans have done everything they could to destroy it, but the law still stands so screw you. I'm at odds with my brother now because he swears he is having to "pay" for people like me. Sheesh, I thought I was paying! We got into an argument and he won't talk to me now, but you can't educate those that refuse to seek the truth.
