Remember that big ratings boom that everybody predicted Duck Dynasty would enjoy upon its return? Yeah, didn't happen.

Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:

Maybe there is such a thing as bad publicity?

Though Duck Dynasty was expected by some to return to its biggest ratings yet after its huge controversy last month, the Louisiana-based reality show returned to lower viewership than its previous two premieres.

Wednesday night’s Duck Dynasty season 5 premiere had 8.5 million viewers. That’s huge for a cable reality show, but down 28 percent from its record-setting fourth season debut in August (11.8 million). It’s also slightly down from the show’s third season premiere in February last year (8.6 million). A&E notes the number up slightly from the fourth season finale on Oct. 23 (though obviously it’s standard to compare premieres to premieres).

Of course Dipshit Dynasty is  still a ratings winner on cable, but this definitely proves that the number of people who think that the Bible gives you license to hate on the gays is a lot less than the Right Wing would have you believe.

Rather than enjoying a ratings boom after patriarch Phil Robertson compared to homosexuality to bestiality and said that all the black folks he knew before the 1964 Civil Rights Act were perfectly happy being treated like second class citizens, it looks instead like even people unsophisticated enough to watch a family pretend to be hillbillies while getting filthy rich off a whistle that tricks waterfowl into thinking their going to get laid, are starting to exercise their first amendment rights to watch better television. (Probably choosing to watch rerun of Will and Grace instead.)

And if Papa Phil carries through on his threat of taking the show over to a Christian channel to punish A&E he can expect much smaller numbers still.

I just don't know: Each time I see a picture of these (fake) Hillbillies who all have higher education degrees, and who all lived a very well-heeled life, I think that they look like a Christian version of the Taliban - the Christian Taliban!

Don't be so hard on yourself. No forgiveness is necessary. Your comment is right on and from the heart. Real Christians don't glamorize hunting and pedophilia.

Unless you are talking about politics. Then it's "Teahadist".

Hopefully, somewhere along the line, some parents felt that they shouldn't turn it on after having to explain beastiality to their kids. Perhaps they felt that the down-homey twang just wasn't worth it.

The Karmic Wheel never stops turning. If I remember correctly palin visited these phonies just before their family leader Phil Manson's, I mean Robertson's, racist remarks were made public. The curse is alive and well. It's all downhill from here boys and girls. Palin turned the spot light on you fuckups just long enough for for everyone to see how fake your country bumpkin shtick is. Ha ha ha

Perhaps their recent national exposure as yuppie fakes has hurt them with the redneck crowd. I stopped watching the show long ago; I don't need an asshole preaching at me.

I'm sure many of the former viewers didn't realize that the DD rednecks were fake until they were exposed by the national media attention. Why waste time watching a "reality" show that isn't real.

Note in the pic how Phil is standing back just a bit to keep Granny Grifter's spittle from flying into his face. Smart move for anyone avoiding oral herpes as well as the projectile shit that she screeches regularly.

I watched Palin on Hannity as the DD controversy was heating up.
    She was reveling in it.
Palin predicted that there would be an explosion of people around the country
wearing DD apparel and head scarves.
Has this woman ever been right in her predictions, ever ??
HANNITY: Do you think, as I think,
that there's going to be an awful lot of Americans that are going to speak out about this -- remember when they rallied to Dan Cathy (ph) over at Chik-fil-A, when -- when he was -- you know, spoke out against gay marriage?
Would you expect the same type of reaction here?
    PALIN: Absolutely!
You're going to see people wearing their camo.
You're going to see people wearing their red, white and blue bandanas and be out there with their duck calls and everything else,
as this manifestation of support for a family ..blah, blah, patriotic, heart of America , empower.
    Her usual Mad Libs.
I wonder if the Sports Channel might be getting a wee bit nervous about her phony " star power " ?

LOL There's a chain of convenience stores called "Wawa", the one near us took away duck dynasty beef jerky and some kind of candy duck call. Bet they're not the only ones and on their way to the dollar stores!!!!!

I wonder why Palin didn't jump in and buy some of those stupid camos for her new hunting show.

OT More fish for Palin's girls to inspire others to do something. The more people paying attention to fish the better.

Palin really needs to educate about why her lake looks so pretty on the outside but is deadly.

Fish are a good way to go on about lessons to end dead lakes.

  13. Just goes to show you how willfully out of touch many "Christians" are with mainstream 21st century American culture. But I am much more disturbed by the fact that more than 8 million people tuned in to watch this crap.

To put that in perspective, the population of all of New York City's five boroughs is about 8.2 million people.

Granny Grifter just jumped on the DD bandwagon during the controversy so that she could inject herself into the story. She doesnt give a damn. Needs to be seen, a narcissist who needs to be seen in order to make a dollar.

Now does she have a curse,i think that is funny. But perhaps her inability to guage situations and desire to be in any major story usually puts her on the idiot side from the beginning.

On a side note, this show appeals to the south, and a few voyeurs who gawk at that culture. 8 million is a lot for cable but really in all of the South and perhaps the other red states, all you mustered up was 8 million.
    Not impressed

It turns out that a national controversy sparked by racist and homophobic remarks doesn't necessarily result in a ratings boost for a television show.

Many speculated that "Duck Dynasty," A&E's hit reality series about a family of swamp millionaires who made their fortune off duck calls, would draw even more viewers after one of the show's stars, Phil Robertson, made headlines last month for railing against "homosexual offenders," "Shintos" and "Islamists" in a wild interview with GQ.

But rather than a ratings spike, viewership for the show's season five premiere actually dipped considerably. Wednesday's premiere drew 8.5 million viewers, down 28 percent from the season four premiere last August.

A&E suspended Robertson after his remarks surfaced, prompting a slew of conservatives like Sarah Palin (who later admitted that she didn't even read the GQ interview) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) to rush to his defense.
