Later Palin posted this video on Facebook, with this description:
When the girls told Trig that daddy had to leave the race, he still said, "Go, daddy!" And it's sort of his first "sentence" that's kind of clear! We're proud of our boy!
Children with Down syndrome develop at a much slower rate than normal, but I was struck by Trig's difficulty with speech at almost six years old. It once again makes me think he did not get the kind of early inventions and supports that he required to help him develop.
Not only that but his crossed eyes are very obvious in this video and yet he is once again not wearing any corrective lenses.
You know to me this kind of speaks to the pro-life movement writ large.
They are all about forcing women to give birth, but the responsibilities afterward of providing adequate care, or ensuring that the child's life is as comfortable as possible seems not to matter nearly as much.
Trig seems like an enjoyable little boy, but now that he is no longer a political prop he needs to be cared for as a human being with special needs.
By the way speaking of Todd here is what is filtering in so far as to why he quit:
It didn't take long for the Iron Dog to turn into a nightmare for the dream team of Tyler Huntington and Todd Palin.
The two former Iron Dog champs ran into trouble less than 100 miles into the 2,000-mile snowmachine race from Big Lake to Nome to Fairbanks on Sunday and officially pulled out of the race late Monday afternoon.
Huntington, a two-time Iron Dog champ from Fairbanks, and Palin, a four-time winner from Wasilla, evidently had some kind of mechanical problem shortly after leaving the starting line in Big Lake.
Race officials didn't have any details as to what happened, only that Huntington and Palin had scratched from the race because of a problem with one of their Ski-Doos.
"All I know is they had some kind of mechanical issue," executive race director Kevin Kastner said. "I don't know if it was from a crash or just a mechanical failure."
You know this had me remembering the last time that Todd quit the race unexpectedly and for reasons that were never made clear.

DeleteTrig's difficulty in speaking has much more to do with the fact he didn't receive intensive Zero to 3 therapy.
DeleteKiddos with DS have very poor muscle control and studies have shown that intensive, multi-phased therapy Zero to 3 can make great strides in what a child can accomplish. Zero to 3 therapy involves many phases of different therapists and takes an investment of time from the guardians of the child. 3, 4, or even up to 8 sessions a week and more work with the child at home.
But you can't do that if you are flying around the country, hauling a child around on a bus, or spending over half your time in another state away from the child that needs you.
At this point, Trig will not ever be able to learn at the accelerated rate that very young child do. That is why the Zero to 3 therapies were developed. Unfortunately Trig's caretakers had money, if they would have been poor the state would have removed him from the home and seen to it that he received the proper therapies.
Zero to 3 therapy is available for every child in the USA and it's a darned shame this wealthy couple was allowed to prevent him from getting it.
GoDaddy.com will cut Trig's guardians a check for the product placement. That is how it works. If they use him in the show on the sport channel deal the Palin's worked out.

Actually Zero to 3 therapy is made available to every child who qualifies. If they hadn't had money, Trig would have been removed from the home so he could have gotten that therapy he desperately needed at the time.
DeleteI don't believe they would apply for that therapy since they would have to provide his birth certificate and people would ask questions. Trig's care and education is most likely coming directly from the Palins' bank account.
DeleteI worked as a therapist and then service coordinator in birth to three for 20 years in another state. I am not familiar with Alaska's program but in my state birth to 3 services are not mandatory and Trig would not be removed from his home for the family choosing not to to receive services or the intensity of services recommended. His diagnosis makes him automatically eligible for services but it is the family's choice to receive services. Medical neglect is another can of worms and determined by medical personnel. I worked w/ many kiddos in foster care and never had an out & out case of medical neglect in all those years. With all that said......I do think Trig would have and still would benefit from wearing his hearing aids and glasses if he has these and intense speech therapy given what we think we know. He definitely should be in an education program beginning at 3 (early childhood education) but again...not mandatory until the age of six I believe, at least in my state..

He needs to visit Sarah's FB and see for himself how wicked it is for her to constantly use him as a defense mechanism prop for their failures or need for pity. That child should be celebrated by his parents for who he is, not for what cutesy things he says about mommy and daddy, and how cute he looks with his siblings, and pet. Yet, she still puts personal photos of her children, and in this instance, a special needs child, not to give encouragement to others with kids with special needs, but to use as a prop when they expect more criticism (which they create by their own actions). It hurts to see this young child used in this way. All they would have to do is not expose him to the world and allow him to thrive privately.
A nurtured child in any other family, who loves their child, would be protected from the nasty internet trolls and haters out there. Who among us, mothers, fathers, would put photos of our little boy if we expected repeated attacks on them? What mother would take that chance? It would tear a mother's heart to hear things about her child, so why would she continue to put them out there as a target? What mother would do this???????? Rush Limbaugh and the righteous indignants don't have a clue as to who these Palins are.
Besides, it can't be proven that anyone here has ever said mean things about Trig; the only criticisms that come about when Trig's photos are posted are comments of dismay and concern over the little guy, that he's used as his mom and dad's little buddy/prop for their own ill-gotten-gained purposes, and he never seems to have any therapies or hearing, eye aids.
Everyone here has loved on Trig and only care about his health and welfare. If the Palins raise a ruckus about how people attack him, it's because they want people to attack, to make them appear like victims.

A major percentage of children born with DS and other genetic deficiencies are simply turned over to the hospital immediately following birth, which then places them in long term care facilities where they spend their lives never knowing a family situation. I guess it's better that he at least get some sort of attention from a unit of people that treat him like family.
The best thing that could have happened is that whomever was pregnant with him did her due diligence and was prenatally tested and decided not to bring the pregnancy to fruition if she wasn't willing to put enough energy into his education and physical therapy, but he's here and at least he's not in an institution.

Is Screech not aware that there is surgery to fix cross eyes? both for herself and Trig?
ReplyDeleteI had corrective surgery for crossed eyes when I was so young I barely remember it...and this was in the 1950s.
DeleteWhile surgery may slightly help Trig it isn't necessarily the answer for a child with DS. If he had received the therapy he needed from Zero to 3 it probably wouldn't be an issue. Most kiddos with DS that are cross eyed have that problem because of the poor muscle control that goes along with the DS diagnoses.

ReplyDeleteI do not think that this little boy, Trig (AKA Ruffles) was the baby that was used as a prop at the convention or the campaign. He probably was the toddler in tow on the first book tour with a possible stand in from time to time.
The 2007 Palin X-Mas family photo is the best clue as to who gave birth to this child, Bristol. The Palins did the old fashioned version of mono and the attempted scarf and mirrors and a pillow stuffed mommy cover up and that births a baby brother. And, the follow up clue is why were Mercede and Levi holding that baby if not for family tradition? Stuff like this only has a chance of working with low profile families and not the ones that shot gun their family photos online and at the checkout at the grocery store.
This story will be continued as we need to know if Tripp was a trap for Levi and what happened to the DWTS spanxed tighter than a sausage cha, cha, cha.....chin, chin chin when she do it again.

ReplyDeleteThe ears have grown the child is about 6 years old. Since he has a haircut and is not wearing a cap, and if you get curious enough the right ear is more deformed than the left. The left ear has bumps on the top. (Photo Trig looking at X-mas tree.) The right ear is very similar to the new born photos. (Mercede holding Triggy Bear and the baby shower photos.) And I ain't smokin' weed.

ReplyDeleteDown Syndrome can be a serious issue for some children. Many have healthy lives, but others, have a lot of struggles and for a down's baby to be presented in this fashion, is so inconsistent with parents who are concerned and connected with their child.
It seems they use this child as their little "model" with which they can use emotional manipulation for their fans, to weed out the nasty rumors going around about them being a grifting dysfunctional family. They use him as the tool to keep their fake brand going.
This child is never shown with other down syndrome children, in a group, at school, with teachers, therapists, or in some fun activity with other children. He is never seen with glasses, which it appears he needs. How can parents let their child's eyes go like that, so cross-eyed. It would give him headaches to have to see without proper focals.
It's outrageous. Are there any ophthamologists here who read, who could explain the physical strain on a child who is so cross-eyed and yet who seems to never have proper eyewear or corrective surgery?

DeleteReport in the news is that they had one broken snowmobile and one working snowmobile. Initially they were going to try to fly parts in and then they realized it couldn't be fixed in time. They towed the broken one back with the working one. It doesn't say if they had to put it on a sled or not.

The race requires that the racers are the only ones who can wrench the machines. No pit crews. No direct factory support. The winners are usually a mixture of speed and mechanical skill. From the reports, they blew a cylinder on Huntington's machine. They carry some spares but not spare motors. The working snowmobile was used to carry the other member of the team (Palin). They don't ride two-up at those speeds. It would be suicide. Skwetna is about 50-60 trail miles from Wasilla. If they had a recovery sled they could get from there to Wasilla in 1-2 hours. Slower if they were just towing it on the track with the drive belt disengaged. Google Iditarod trail or Iron dog trail and you will get a decent map.

Something is not right with this situation. I'm not saying Todd Palin is the only fraud in the bunch.
As far as KAJO's GPS map goes, I do think that Ty rode on Todd's sled back from Swentna and that Ty's broken sled was towed on a Sno-Cat back from the breakdown point at Skwenta. That's usually what happens if a sled breaks down near a checkpoint; it's towed or hauled back by a larger vehicle to the nearest check point, in this case they just would have taken Ty's sled back to Big Lake and put it on his trailer to be driven back to Todd's shop, if they even had a minor plan of fixing it and continuing the race.

I've always been blond and can go back anytime I want and I kind of understand Sunny's choice to go dark because we light blonds always get the butt of all the "blond" jokes and face it, brunettes are always taken more seriously. Plus, a head of dark hair does a lot more to show off light blue eyes than does blond. She's young and experimenting. Nothing wrong with that. I've probably paid my stylist enough though the years to pay for a new car as often as I've changed my hair color! I know that each DS child is different and has different abilities. But, I think that Trig would have more going for him if he was using all five senses. With vision and hearing disabilities, he should be wearing his glasses-- and hearing aids if he has them. We see Trig with electronic games but he also needs regular therapy.

ReplyDeleteI thought Trig did very well with his enunciation with Bristol at her house (and - that was videoed at Bristol's house. Note the deck rail outside the french doors).
He also responded to Bristol's prompts to speak and repeat in a timely manner. When asked to say it again, he did so. Everyone has to start somewhere - Trig has Down Syndrome, and clearly other developmental delays. That said - "go daddy" was said with purpose and in proper tones. Having volunteered with lots of young developmentally delayed kiddos, it sounded fantastic.
For those of you who do not know my background, I also have a special needs adult daughter in her 30's who had language and multiple physical issues.
Trig's "go daddy" sounded GREAT! Its a start, and when Trig receives praise / recognition / feedback for speaking versus gesturing or acting out, he'll continue to want to learn.
He is SUCH a cute kid!

Todd could go to his own house, did he call and let the race director finally know what was going on? Todd is lucky not to be injured. Although he is famous for his celebrity status, it is certain he can disappear and without communication even during a big time Alaskan race. Todd had the best of the best and his machine was slower than a snail. It sounds like it was that way from the start. I take it they don't do test runs before a big race. How could his machine go bad from the start?

The story about Trig just made me cry. It's pitiful that a family with such access to resources that many people don't have, chooses not to use them, and the child suffers for it. It seems a crime, though I'm sure it's not in reality. As long as he is fed and clothed, I'm pretty sure Social Services can't do anything about them neglecting his education and enrichment. So sad.

He and teammate Tyler Huntington, a two-time champion himself, suffered what was apparently an electrical problem with one of their machines on the first day of the race and had to go about 100 miles in the wrong direction -- all the way back to Todd's shop in Wasilla, near where the race started -- to make repairs.
