This year’s War on Easter coverage on Fox News came to a head this morning when Fox & Friends contributor Ainsley Earnhardt pitted an atheist and a Christian against each other for a heated debate over the Freedom From Religion Foundation’s right to post “anti-Easter” signs alongside the giant cross and resurrected Jesus monuments in Chicago’s Daley Plaza. “Has Easter evolved into an occasion to demean religious beliefs and Christianity?” Earnhardt asked at the top of the segment.
And what are those “anti-Easter” images? Quotes from America’s Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, reading “In reason, we trust” and “Keep state and religion separate,” respectively.
You know I certainly don't want to disagree with a Fox News blonde bobblehead, but I do not understand how this is an attack on Easter.
It was in fact a response to this display at Chicago's Daley Plaza.
If one religious group feels that it is okay to place symbolic constructs that promote their religion in a public venue, then it is only fair to expect other religions to want to do the same. Or for non-deists to want to promote their message in a similar manner.
And in NO way can this be compared to the hateful images and remarks that are the hallmark of the Westboro church folk.
Though I am sure saying so plays right into the Fox viewers already existing prejudices.
Fox host: Atheists need God’s ‘forgiveness’ for using free speech rights on Easter

Right-Wing Conservatism Debunked by Jesus Christ Himself in Under 3 Minutes (Video)
ReplyDeleteYou know, even those of us who are nonreligious can’t avoid thinking about Jesus’ message on a day like today. While conservatives spend their time claiming that God hates poor people, the LGBT community, immigrants, and…well…anyone who isn’t a rich, white “Christian” faketriot, we decided to take a look at what the son of God has to say about it–and, conservatives, you’re not going to like it.
Everyone turn your Bibles to Matthew 5. Conservatives, since this a book, and likely the first time you will be opening one, here is a helpful guide:

20 Jesus Quotes That Will Make Conservatives’ Heads Explode
ReplyDelete....So, a Christian either is like Jesus Christ, tries to act like Jesus Christ or follows his teachings? Alas, this definition doesn’t sound at all like the conservative so-called “Christians” we keep reading and hearing about in the news.

EXPOSED: The Source Of Cliven Bundy’s Crackpot Constitutionalism
ReplyDeleteThe unfolding drama in the Nevada desert over a deadbeat cattle rancher’s refusal to pay customary grazing fees like every other rancher, continues to excite the Tea Party pseudo-patriots who believe that threatening a range war in defense of personal greed is a mark of virtue. However, Cliven Bundy’s domestic terrorism serves nothing more than his own selfish financial interests, and the crusade he purports to lead is rooted in the worst sort of perversion of constitutional principles.
Bundy has resisted paying to graze his cattle on federal land because he doesn’t recognize the authority of the government to assess those fees. His argument has lost repeatedly in court, but he continues to ignore his responsibility and to defy the law. His malfeasance amounts to the theft of over a million dollars from the American people. Ironically, if his argument prevailed he would be subject to paying the state of Nevada for grazing rights at $15.50 per head of cattle, rather than the federal rate of $1.35. But simple math, like simple logic, is too complicated for these cretins. So instead, they take up arms against their fellow Americans and pretend to defend their twisted misinterpretation of the Constitution.
Now we have evidence of where Bundy may have picked up his constitutional delusions. In a recent media appearance, Bundy was proudly displaying a copy of the 'Constitution' in his shirt pocket.

My husband's mom used to carry around the Heritage Foundation version in her purse. One holiday she challenged all of us to answer questions. Her lawyer grandson and her History teacher grandson beat her to the punch. They asked her how many amendments there are. Blank look. Now, these are all fun die GOPers, but it was priceless.
DeleteDebbie Wasserman Schultz Guts David Gregory’s GOP Cheerleading On Meet The Press
ReplyDelete...David Gregory repeatedly told Rep. Wasserman Schultz that he wasn’t interested in facts, or the merits as he called them. Gregory made it clear that he was only interested in pushing the Republican fantasy that Democrats are doomed because of Obamacare.
Wasserman-Schultz put him in his place by explaining reality. Millions of people do understand the ACA, because they now have health insurance, or they aren’t getting dropped because they have a preexisting condition. As far as the 2014 electoral map is concerned, Democratic Senate incumbents are leading in places like Arkansas and Louisiana, and they could easily pick up two more seats in Kentucky and Georgia.
The sleaziest part of the whole segment was Gregory’s quoting of a radio interview with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) from nearly 4 MONTHS AGO. To David Gregory, the 8 million signups never happened. The increasing public approval of the ACA isn’t real. Nobody cares about how the ACA is helping people.
This kind of lazy one sided interviewing is what has made Meet The Press unwatchable. There is a reason why Meet The Press has sunk to third place in the Sunday show ratings, and that reason’s name is David Gregory.

MTP died years ago. D Gregory is the missing link. Good for Debbie for swatting him down!
DeleteSo wait. It's Easter and these devout Christians are not in church? Where's Sarah's family portrait of all the kids in their Easter attire heading into the evangelical church of choice? Not the Palins either? My. Our President and his family attended church this morning..you know, the atheist Muslim communist?
ReplyDeleteGryphen, your ignorance is showing again.
ReplyDeleteThe reason that Daley Plaza is one of xtianity's holiest places in the entire world is that God chose that location for the so-called Miracle of The Madonna.
If you had done the slightest research before posting, you would have learned that in 1967, without warning or human involvement, this huge - and slightly deformed post-cubist - statue of the Madonna appeared in The Loop ("Where Chicago Rocks(tm)"), not to be confused with the even larger statue in front of the nearby Jim Thompson State of Illinois Center which depicts Madonna, the once famous 80's pop singer.
Besides a divine act of heavenly metalworking, how else can anyone explain the sudden appearance of a 2000 ton, 1,250ft tall iron/papier-mâché sculpture in the middle of downtown Chicago? It HAS to be a miracle!!
The reason ginormous xtian dashboard artifacts are permitted on city property is that the plaza was long ago declared a United Nations Xtian World Heritage Sertified Sacred Site when tears appeared to fall from the statue's beady little eyes the fateful day in December 1997 when popular, portly actor Chris Farley died of a drug overdose in a downtown hotel.
Stop making stuff up and grow up, also too!!!
Excellent point, and an example of American exceptionalism. Heavenly metalworking certainly out-classes the old Madonna-on-the-tortilla imagery of the third world (including some parts of Texas).
DeleteOn the other hand, how is it even legal to intrude on Picasso's public art sculpture? Although it is a bit baboonesque. Perhaps it is really ISHTAR pagan goddess of spring and the original spring/bunny/egg extravaganza party-planner.
Wild Tortoise
Bless the fox news blonde bimbo's little heart. Though I heard no one sneeze, she ended this exercise in "Thank you ladies... God Bless You". WTH?
ReplyDeleteSo, using the small c christian's example of the Gutenburgh printing press being first used to print a bible, if the first book printed was the Kama Sutra, would she be so passionate about everyone fornicating publicly in the public square? Comparing the time tested truths of secularism to the Westboro Baptist Church? It's as absurd as comparing Sarah to Einstein.
Secularists have the same rights as christians, no matter what day of the year they decide to practice it. But hey, it's Fox News, comparing secularists to a hate group that passes for a Baptist church is to be expected. If the baptists don't mind, why should we?
Let me see if I can explain this to the Christians...
ReplyDeleteahem...
YOU'RE NOT SPECIAL BECAUSE OF YOUR PRIMITIVE SUPERSTITION!
There, I hope that helps.
Hey, if they're going to put all that stuff up: Christ and his awful cross, us pagans should be able to erect a statue of the Anglo-Saxon/Indo-European goddess whose very name gave their holiday its name: Eostre. A nice big one of her cradling one of her symbolic animals: the rabbit and holding an egg in her other hand. I mean, fair is fair, right?
