Fox News contributor, Charles Krauthammer, tells the Republicans that "the clock has run out on Benghazi."

Courtesy of TPM:

Charles Krauthammer, an influential conservative commentator, on Wednesday told Republicans to give up on Benghazi.

"Politically speaking the administration has won. They ran out the clock. If we had a select committee from the beginning, really had coherent hearings unlike what we’ve had, which were disjointed hearings that let all things sort of slip away, we really would have been somewhere. We would have gotten to the bottom of this. But as a political fact, this thing is done," he said on Fox News about congressional Republicans' many investigations into how the Obama administration handled the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Wednesday held a press conference on Benghazi. Last month, the same three senators called for a Select Committee to investigate Benghazi, but Krauthammer said it's time for them to let it go.

"Unfortunately you only have a certain amount of time, a certain amount of attention, and the clock has run out on Benghazi," he said Wednesday.

Of course Krauthammer claims that if the Republicans had simply been more aggressive in the beginning they would have found something. However the truth is, and has always been, that there was nothing for them to find.

Personally I hope that the Republicans keep on worrying that Benghazi bone, and that they use that as their central attack against Hillary in 2016.

After all, what else have they got?

Oh yeah, Bill had an affair 25 years ago.

Good luck with that GOP.

P.S. Does anybody else think that Krauthammer looks like something that lurches out of the dark in a horror movie? Or am I the only one he creeps out?

Yes. Looks like some Frankenstein-esque bird, with that beak of his clacking away; I find it really, really hard to take that visual seriously.

I'm not defending him, but he was in a paralyzing accident, and that has something to do with the way he looks. Let's condemn him for what he thinks, says and writes, and not how he looks.

    2. I knew about him being in a wheelchair -- as is that Texas POS AG/Gov candidate Greg Abbott -- but it doesn't change the fact that both are GOP/TP authoritarians bent on scrambling to the top of the political heap for the sake of power and/or raking in the shekels.

As for how Krauthammer looks, I wonder if that's the result of too much Botox. There's other ways of becoming paralyzed besides being in an accident.

During Krauthammer's first year of medical school, he was paralyzed in a diving-board accident[2][6] and was hospitalized for 14 months

A blast from the way past where the Krautman was first made into a beer can chicken man.

I've always seen him as a beer can chicken man ever since this post happened. As a matter of fact, when we do a beer can chicken on the smoker, we call it a Krauthammer Chicken. Bon appetit!

Our old German Neighbors used to make their own Sauerkraut, but I don't recall a hammer being involved except for loosening the loops on the barrel. Yeah, he's smarmy looking. Wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.
But he's wrong about Benghazi. John McCorn, Miss Lindsey, and Kelly Aglioeolio just refuse to let it go.
I'm beyond pissed that Sebillius is resigning.

    but we don't WANT to.

    it's not cause we lost...
    so...
    that's it then...

The plutocrats and corporatists will continue to trumpet phantom scandals in an attempt to vilify Obama, Hillary, and all things that even hint at helping the 99%. Issa is still pounding away at the IRS chimera. The brainwashed and misinformed plebeian right-wingers still lap it up and vote against their self-interest. They are being told what they want to believe. No thinking is required.

GOP House Armed Services Chair exonerates Obama, Hillary over Benghazi

GOP Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, the Republican chair of the House Armed Services Committee, says he’s satisfied with how the US military – and ergo the Obama administration – responded to the deadly attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans, including the US ambassador to Libya.

The news also exonerates expected Democratic presidential nominee, and then-Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. More on that in a moment.

“I think I’ve pretty well been satisfied that given where the troops were, how quickly the thing all happened and how quickly it dissipated, we probably couldn’t have done more than we did,” McKeon said to reporters today, as quoted by AP.

McKeon then went on to plant a not-so-subtle dig at fellow Republicans who keep harping on “Benghazi” as if there were a real scandal there.

“We have been working on this for a long time. We issued a preliminary report,” McKeon said. “At some point, when we run out of people to talk to, or we run out of people to talk to two or three times, at some point, we think we’ll have as much of this story as we’re going to get and move on.”

Put a fork in that GOP talking point.
Lead Benghazi cheerleader Lindsey Graham has been focused on getting the bottom.

Lead Benghazi cheerleader Lindsey Graham has been focused on getting to the bottom.

The Republicans have been trying to make political hay of Benghazi since the attack, which took place on September 11, 2012, only a few months before the presidential election.

But it’s been an uphill climb for the GOP as the American people apparently understood that while four people dying was a tragic thing, it was just as tragic when some 13 attacks on US diplomatic missions during the Bush years killed 17 Americans. That’s like four Benghazis.

Of course, the actual 9/11, which was also under George Bush’s watch, was like 744 Benghazis, but who’s counting.

The GOP – well, apparently only some in the GOP, now – claim that the Obama administration got their public statements wrong immediately after the attacks because they were trying to downplay the terror angle right before the election.

In fact, the Obama administration’s statement, that the attacks weren’t necessarily terrorism, but may have been simply an angry mob gone wrong, provoked in part by an anti-Muslim/anti-Mohammed video that was posted on YouTube, were backed up by a further investigation from the NYT.

    From that earlier NYT story:

  10. All the Benghazi attacks are directed toward Hillary and Pres. Obama like it's their fault. How can they possibly monitor every embassy we have around the world? Shouldn't it be reasonable to expect the ambassador to a foreign country to have enough common sense to take precautions and assume he would be responsible for his own life?

At that time, there was a lot of turmoil around the region. Because of this, the British embassy closed and the Brits left Libya. What did our Ambassador Stevens do? He left the embassy in Tripoli (a far safer place), and took off for the consulate 400 miles away in Benghazi. By doing this, he not only endangered his life, but the lives of the men trying to protect him.

As fine a person as Ambassador Stevens was, why has no one ever criticized him for his actions? Why has Pres. Obama been raked over the coals for this ambassadors poor decisions?

Was there any truth to something I heard, around the time of the attack, that congress had earlier cut back on the money spent on embassy security?

If that IS a true fact, there should be a LOT of finger pointing at the fools who made that decision.

Faux has cornered the market on UGLY contributors. Krauthammer looks like a cartoon chicken, O'Reilly looks like Mr. Magoo with no teeth, Hannity always looks severely constipated, Palin looks like she needs to be hosed down she looks unclean. Rove, Kristol, "babe magnet" Gingrich, Bessel all look as though their shirt buttons are about to pop. The bleached blondes all look alike, just with different voices, but all bitchy harpies. All combined, their hatred of the Democratic party is dragging them down into obscurity. The sooner the better. Haven't heard from Elizabeth from Survivor recently, maybe they will replace her with Liz Cheney, since she has bleached her hair blonder.

A while back I was reading the comments on Wonkette. One commenter said that they got on an elevator and Creepie Krauttie was on there. They said a pretty young woman got on the elevator and he started hitting on this woman with pretty lewd remarks and basically wouldn't take the hint that she wanted nothing to do with him. He is married with children and a " family values" conservative.Pretty typical.
