Michael Bloomberg to donate 50 million dollars to start his own anti-NRA movement.

Courtesy of The New York Times:

Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence, an organization he hopes can eventually outmuscle the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, said gun control advocates need to learn from the N.R.A. and punish those politicians who fail to support their agenda — even Democrats whose positions otherwise align with his own.

“They say, ‘We don’t care. We’re going to go after you,’ ” he said of the N.R.A. “ ‘If you don’t vote with us we’re going to go after your kids and your grandkids and your great-grandkids. And we’re never going to stop.’ ”

He added: “We’ve got to make them afraid of us.”

This is good news for all of those who thought that gun control legislation was a non-starter after  the last attempt was blocked in the Senate.

Bloomberg is right that the only way to combat the NRA is to outspend them, out lobby them, and out threaten them.

If politicians find themselves facing a lobby as aggressive as the NRA they might just be willing to start making the hard choices, by creating gun legislation that makes sense and preserves constitutional rights, while protecting American lives from gun nuts and the mentally deranged.

I think it is well past time for politicians to stop fearing the NRA, and start fearing the people victimized by the NRA.

Boy, do I agree with this action! Finally, someone 'on the other side' (w/$$$) has stepped up. We need to get behind him and support - going after the NRA!

    MUST vent.

So sick of moms seeing something they don't like about what another mom or child is doing in a store or somewhere out in public and then immediately reporting to Facebook about how awful that mother/child is. GROW UP! You really think you can make a accurate judgment based on the 3 minute glimpse you saw into their life?! Worry about your own journey with your own children. You don't know that mother or child or their circumstances so just zip your lips and refrain from acting like you are so much better when in reality you need Facebook likes and comments to fulfill the feeling of self worth. We've all made mistakes as parents. I've been THAT mom who has the toddler melting down in the middle of Walmart. Or the 4 year old with the binky in her mouth who unbuckled and completely stripped down butt naked in the car while waiting in the drive trough of the bank. Am I a bad mom? Nope. Are my kids horrible? They sure aren't. So just stoooop!

I know, that's why I don't have a fb account nor do I comment on sites who require you to sign up through face book. It's nothing more than a scam to mine more data from you and your friends and family.

OH. MY. GOD. Have you seen this Gryphen? Sure does fill in some blanks for me with Sarah and her whole faux Jewish schtick.

...Then it got crazy. Yes, then. You may think the first 10 seconds of the video are insane but the true insanity doesn’t begin until she brings up the shofar.....

I just can't decide... the red one goes with my cufflinks, but the yellow one just screams 'hello springtime'.

Good luck with your 50 million go nowhere plan Bloomy. The Harvard boy NYC Mayor billionaire, telling all the regular folk across the land how its gonna be... He will probably help double the registration with the NRA.

I admire millionaires who pick great charitable causes AND pull the puppet's string by threatening to outlaw big gulps.
