If a Right Wing convention fails in the woods, and nobody notices it, does anybody get teabagged?

Okay so as all of you know I skipped attending this Wasilla nutjob convention this weekend.

Instead I went to see the new X-Men movie, which I HIGHLY recommend, so I feel I made the better choice.

However I figured I would go ahead and do a follow up post on whatever was written up by whatever poor reporter was sent to cover this "event."

So I waited. And I waited. And I waited.

Nothing, nada, zilch.

I checked ADN. Not a word.

I checked Alaska Dispatch. Only the sound of crickets.

Well since its a small event I thought perhaps the Fairbanks Newsminer and Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman might cover it.

Nope, they did not even seem to notice.

Well surely Sarah Palin will post something on her Facebook page about it, after all it is down the street, and it features Teabaggers speaking in the sports center she had built to honor her ex-lover.

Not a peep.

So then I began to wonder, was the damn thing held at all?

So I went to their site. Where I see this:

So apparently they held a straw poll. But how many people were even there to vote in it?

Absolutely NO idea!

So I thought about it, and decided that this is probably very telling.

After all if an uber Right Wing convention, held in the backyard of the person who is arguably most responsible for the formation of the Tea Party, garners ABSOLUTELY no interest from the media, and in fact does not even attract Palin herself, then I think we can assume that for all intents and purposes the Tea Party is over.

Damn, am I glad I didn't waste my time driving all the way out to Wasilla yesterday.

I know, right? I was just hiding indoors from the smoke and ash that is falling in our neighborhood and thought I'd google local or even national news reports on the Freedom Fair. Nothing, just as you found. Even their Facebook hasn't been updated since May 12 and only has 43 followers and 6 commenters.

So, what, did this thing happen or not? I live about two miles away from the arena but there was no way in hell I was going! I guess I should have at least driven by to see if it was cancelled or how few folks were actually there.

Oh well, looks like if it did happen it might have just resulted in a "free Alaska vacation" for all the parties involved.

Young Republicans Split With The GOP On Gay Marriage, Marijuana

...The group illustrates a growing generational divide in the GOP as younger Republicans increasingly break rank from the establishment on social issues. In Alabama, a college Republican group leader was nearly kicked out of the party for supporting gay marriage. The successful push to legalize gay marriage in Minnesota was backed by several prominent younger Republicans. And in Colorado, the spokesman for a group that pushed to legalize marijuana was a Republican activist. Perhaps only in opposing abortion are most young Republicans nationally as conservative socially as older members.

"We've grown up in a time where everything's much more open. We want to talk about more things," Tampa Bay Young Republicans president Anibal Cabrera said. "We're willing to listen to the other point of view. We're willing to have an opposite opinion."

Completely o/t-apologies!!! I was perusing the psyche ward at c4p and it occurred to me-doesn't theresaak and polarbearpapa remind you of the mom in the film carrie? So batshit cray cray religious that she had to die in the end ? They are quoting all sorts of scripture today while being anti abortion, gay, etc. and all it reminds me of is that crazy mother in Carrie forcing her into the closet, locking the door while mumbling and yelling religious scripture like the lunatic she is. Really there is no difference between these loons and the Muslims who kill for Allah. Not all Christians and not all Muslims are psycho but these two really are evil and twisted!!!! More on the guy Sarah wants to win in Nebraska. DAMN! He's a piece of work! We SO don't need any more this mindset in Congress.
    -----------------------

The GOP candidate for the open Nebraska Senate seat who believes that the “government cannot force citizens to violate their religious beliefs under any circumstances” wrote a dissertation while at Yale documenting the number of times the government did just that — and how the unintended consequences of doing so were key to mainstreaming conservative politics.

Ben Sasse, who is widely expected to to win the seat being vacated by Sen. Mike Johanns in November, authored a dissertation — The Anti-Madalyn Majority: Secular Left, Religious Right, and the Rise of Reagan’s America — in which he argued that the modern conservative movement began not with “the Reagan Revolution,” but with two Supreme Court decisions in the early 1960s in which mandatory public school prayer and Bible reading were struck down as unconstitutional.

The first of them, Engel v. Vitale, inspired a Republican Congressman from New York, Frank Becker, to action. He was a true believer — a man who, according to Sasse, was a “tenacious focus derived less from a studied assessment of his audience than from his heartfelt conviction that the hope of America lay in its special relationship with the Almighty, and in the nation’s resolve to doggedly oppose the most formidable system of atheistic imperialism the world had ever known.”

Sasse identified Becker’s failed efforts to “oppose the most formidable system of atheistic imperialism the world had ever known” as the origin of a “bottom-up” rebellion against the “elites” — many of whom were Jewish — who wanted to remove religion from public life. He claimed that Nixon and his rhetoric of the “silent majority” spoke “effectively to and for the small-town values still prized by most of the country.”

“Indeed angst about secularization, more than any other complaint,” he wrote, “provided a lens through which Americans could see all other social problems as sharing a common root, a liberal root.” He claimed that these forces existed outside of conventional politics, a sentiment he echoes today on the campaign trail.

...The Alaska Republican Assembly is working to bring committed conservative men and women to leadership in the Republican party, to take back the Senate and the presidency and promote the return of fiscal sanity, rule of law and common sense. We support candidates who reflect the spirit of America’s core values in their beliefs and actions, and who will serve in uncompromising accord with those values. We want to unite conservative Americans, increase grassroots involvement, revitalize our party, and turn it into an electoral powerhouse that Americans can embrace once again.

It is with great anticipation that on May 24 the Alaska Republican Assembly will host the Alaska Freedom Fair and Convention at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center in Wasilla.

The mainstream media: once again ignoring conservative stories about the true Americans who want our country to return to the exceptionalism that our founding fathers wrote about in that sacred text, the Constitution.
What about the freedom of speech guaranteed to these conservatives? Once more the liberal media denies them their right to be heard.

There's only one solution: Sarah Palin will give us a full and accurate report on what happened over there at that Menard
Center. I can't wait to hear the rill dill, straight-talk, from the First Lady of Tea.

I keep reading that a small percentage of nut-baggers want Palin to run for the presidency in 2016 but no one talks about just how she would do this.

The GOP will never nominate her so would she run as as independent?

What about debates? Even the people who want her to run know that she is not smart enough or intelligent enough to participate in a debate with even one candidate, let alone multiples.

Since she is not smart enough to develop any policy positions, this would be done by people she pays. There is no way she could become familiar enough with these policies, written by someone other than her, to articulate them with out reading from q cards or written on her hand.

So, just what would this woman run on?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous8:34 PM

Anonymous 3:02, well done with the satire! LOL. You had almost convinced me with your "conservative stories", "true Americans", "exceptionalism" and "sacred text" buzz words. Your "rill dill" was your clue to where your thoughts really reside.

Bravo! You sound exactly like the folks who call the "Sound Off" column in our local newspaper, complaining that their town's high school sports team didn't get any, or enough, coverage in the paper. They are mad as heck that they are being "ignored"!

Well, as we all know, "paper" newspapers are a dying breed. I still subscribe to my local newspaper even though it has shrunk considerably in size and scope since we moved here ten years ago. I love print media and will support it until it's gone...and it's going online right now.

Newspapers have drastically cut their staff size and they can't cover local events to the satisfaction of all their readers. They probably never did, but it's more obvious now.

I like your solution! We both know that Sarah did not attend this Alaska Freedom Fair and Convention. Sarah may not have been invited, but my guess is that they couldn't pay her any money to make an appearance, let alone a speech.

Half-term Palin is a "what's in it for me" type of gal and heaven forbid she would help out her fellow Tea Partiers with a free speech and publicity. Wonder if she will even make a comment about the event or it's participants? None of them can "do anything" for her.

Even if Palin had attended this small Tea Party gathering, I doubt there would have been much press coverage. Sarah's popularity is dropping rapidly nationwide, as it already has in Alaska, and her recent water boarding and baptism remarks have made her rather toxic.

C'mon, Gryphen, don't you even know what a GOP Straw Poll is??? And you call yourself a political citizen journalist?

    Let me esplain.

A GOP straw poll is where you write the names of the candidates on a list, say 1 through 10. Then you take 10 straws of equal length and cut one inch off the bottom of one straw. Then, one person lines up all the straws and conceals the uneven ends in their hand. Are you following this?

Then, a second person goes down the list and pulls random straws as they read off the numbers. 1... 2... 3... 4... and so on. When they pull the short straw, THAT'S the winner of the straw poll! (Mazel tov to Theodore "Ted" Cruz, btw.)

So, when you ask how many voters there were in this douchebag GOP straw poll, you're just showing yer ig'nance.

Either that, or the lack of raw polling numbers is a way for the sad sack sponsors to hide the pitiful attendance numbers for their douchebag event.

I hope that everyone who lives in the area makes note of the sponsors. That is the ONLY thing those people understand.

This must be a real fringe organization. None of the four people pictured hold political office. An endorsement from Sharon Angle would be a joke because her candidacy was a joke. Rafael Cruz spouts the far right wing stuff that his own kid can't say out loud. Here is some more information about some of the people: Sharron Angle served as a Nevada state assemblywoman and garnered 45 percent of the vote as the Republican nominee when she ran for U.S. Senate challenging Majority Leader Harry Reid in 2010. Willes Lee has been a prominent conservative as a Hawaiian Republican, HRP chairman, and state candidate. Sheriff Richard Mack is a former sheriff of Graham County, Arizona, and a two-time candidate for United States Congress.

Sarah Palin lost a lot of people who used to donate to SarahPac. How sad it took those people that long to figure out they were scammed. Like they say,

"A fool and his money gave it away to Sarah Palin"

Well that's what they are saying in Wasilla.

Sarah Palins friends and family were the ONLY people from Wasilla to donate to SarahPac. If you look at her quarterly financials you'll see that for the last three quarters only one person from Alaska has donated. We've been done with her for a while.

OT, I didn't see anywhere that Sarah honored our heros, etc. for Memorial Day. Did she forget? Was she planning an appearance for a Memorial Day event. Seems strange she mocks the administration for their lack of patriotism, but forgets herself.

She's still looking for that ultra-short skirt so she can still get all the attention even in spite of, you know, the dead war Vets thing- the dirty old bitch.

She's roundin' up her shortest skirt and her sluttiest shoes; historically that's been her go-to costume for Memorial Day.

You know it's going to be a HUGE event when the Balloon Man and private people are sponsoring it. Look at the names on the poster. Aren't some of those Joe Miller donators? Like Amanda said, he got the most shout outs.

Joe has a link via his page which 44 whole people liked!

I can't stop laughing. Who has a straw poll without percentages nor numbers? My guess is they put all the names in a wig and proclaimed the winner of each position? Or did Sarah roll the eskimo bingo cage of losers?

It's like Sarah won the governorship and Todd controlled the state. If you read Sarah's emails you would see that state employees had to go through Todd or cc Todd on state emails.

If Barstool holds a tea party in her mouth and nobody comes, is she still considered a loyal TeaBagger?

It doesn't matter since you're still out ten bucks. She's gotta pay the finance charges on The Chin® somehow.

I just don't get any of this. This uber conservative motley crew hosts a convention in Wasilla, of all places. None of the Palins are present. What's with that?

If this convention was held is Wasilla and none of the Palns were invited, wouldn't that be a slap in the face to the Palins?

If any of the Palins were invited but refused, wuoldn't that be a slap in the face to Eduardo Cruz, who Sarah has been pimping for over a year now? My goodness, Crus' father was the keynote speaker!

So, why was Sarah nor any of her surrogates present at this shendig? Makes no sense. Unless....

  38. There are now 70 plus comments on this article, 20 more comments than there were Tea Party Republicans attending the 'conference.' Gee, it looks like the Tea Party is cooling off and ready to be poured down the drain.

Michelle Bachmann actually is the founder of the Tea Party. Palin jumped on the wagon. Bachmann is not running for re-election either. She's returning to MN.

The genesis of the Tea Party started with the Koch brothers back in the 80's. Bachmann jumped in long after is was established and founded the now defunct Congressional Tea Party Caucus. It has always been an astro-turf organization. The agitated and uninformed rank and file don't know they are doing the bidding of plutocrats and corporatists. They are merely tools.

All these people are is John Birchers dressed up in a new name, aka the Tea Party. Interesting fact: Fred Koch, father of the Koch brothers was a founding member of the John Birch Society. They were so radical that Ike (that would be Eisenhower) ignored them and essentially chucked them out of the Republican Party.

They are back............. And they want a seat at the table. Great to here that even in Alaska, they are ignored. They deserve to be ignored.
