Chipotle is asking its customers to leave their firearms at home after it says some gun advocates staged an "open-carry" demonstration in one of its Texas restaurants.
"Recently participants from an 'open carry' demonstration in Texas brought guns (including military-style assault rifles) into one of our restaurants, causing many of our customers anxiety and discomfort," the company said Monday in a statement, as quoted by Dallas TV station KTVT. "Because of this, we are respectfully asking that customers not bring guns into our restaurants, unless they are authorized law enforcement personnel."
The burrito chain's announcement followed a petition by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, the gun control group backed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, asking the company to ban firearms in response to a group of gun advocates who carried rifles over the weekend into a Chipotle in the Dallas area.
Chipotle's statement did not say the company was banning firearms from its restaurants entirely and acknowledged "there are strong arguments on both sides" of the gun control issue."
"The vast majority of gun owners are responsible citizens and we appreciate them honoring this request," the statement read. "And we hope that our customers who oppose the carrying of guns in public agree with us that it is the role of elected officials and the legislative process to set policy in this area, not the role of businesses like Chipotle.”
You know I mentioned before that perhaps the best advocates for better gun control were 2nd Amendment advocates themselves. Looks like I was onto something.
It is remarkably dense of these gun nuts to think that everyday citizens will be comforted by watching them walk around with AR-15's slung over their shoulders.
The more they walk around like a bunch of overfed Rambo wannabes, the more they are going to freak out the average American who simply wants to enjoy their burrito or Starbucks coffee without worrying they will have to dive under their table in order to avoid incoming gunfire.
I've never owned a gun in my life, but I'm here in the DFW area where all these "protests" are happening. I asked a friend, who is a big time gun guy what he thought of these guys and their tactics. I was pleased to know he thinks they are idiots with mental issues who have no business owning guns.
ReplyDeleteI lump them into the same category as car owners with loud music or fart cans, “Look at me, pay attention to me, dammit, look at me,” but music and fart cans aren’t dangerous.
DeleteMost of of weapons owners do think these small penis men are just plain crazy. And, as a business owner, no way do I want some kook walking in with an assault rifle. And if I was in a place and someone did I would immediately exit.
DeleteI lump them in the same category as 2 year olds so desperate for attention they will be as unpleasant as possible. Of course, the answer for a 2 year is too give them the attention they need before they get out of hand so they don't end up as adults acting out for attention.
DeleteThese gun wavers are compensating for their insecurity about their penises but will never understand that is what we see as they strut about.
Merchants will have to decide if they'd rather have customers or pacify the NRA. Maybe profit will win the war with the NRA.
"This is my rifle, this is my gun
ReplyDeleteThis one's for fighting, this one's for fun."
Correction of last line:
"This one's for compensation, and this one is really small." (just pour pepper on it and grab it with a tweezers when it sneezes).
I'd say that when someone is killed by one of these yahoos that the NRA will wake up, but I doubt it. Someone found the small guy's FB page, and there is a photo of two small boys with guns as big as these. Nice. Maybe it will be like the other deaths, and only their families will be 'accidentally' affected.
ReplyDeleteIf the horrific murder of small, innocent children at Sandy Hook only caused them to promote MORE gun access, there is nothing that can make them see reason.
DeleteThey only value their bottom line and consider the life of a human being as worthless and disposable in their quest for power and money.
In photo - typical overt carriers - white guys - obese and a short guy! You think they might have some kind of identity issues? What jokers!
ReplyDeleteAnd, good for the restaurant! Sincerely hope more of the chains do the same thing across the nation - especially in the south!
if I see anyone with a gun in a shop or restaurant and they are not in a police uniform, I walk out and call the place up to complain. Since we can't stop these asshole,s we CAN make it very uncomfortable for the shops and other places that allow guns in the stores.
DeleteCorrect 9:31. And I guarantee neither one of them is steadily employed.
DeleteWouldn't hesitate for a minute to call 911 on these ammosexuals. parading around in public with their phallic symbols and endangering the public. keep it in your drawers

According to our statistical election-forecasting machine, the Democrats have a slight edge, with about a 59% chance of retaining a majority.

DeleteNormally I don’t like to write about Sarah Palin in back to back posts but, like Operation American Spring that went from farce to absurdity to hilarity , sometimes you have to go where the derp takes you.
ReplyDeleteI have said repeatedly that it is fairly apparent that everything that supposedly leaks from the pen of Sarah Palin is no doubt written by someone else — possibly while Sarah dictates as she rinses our her extensive collection of Bumpits. We know that Nancy French has applied her interpretive skills to the Palin family oeuvre; creating a narrative structure out of notes scribbled on Arby’s napkins with lipstick, as well cassettes containing guttural hoots, belches, and click consonants.
We also know the early Palin-adopter, Rebecca Mansour, has shared in the seemingly endless bounty of Palin grift dollars, fleeced from the yokels, in return for services rendered.
But today’s Facebook …. ‘eruption’ has got methed-up 4AM trailerpark hoohah written all over it, by which I mean: Sarah Palin sat her own bad-self down at the typewriter attached to the TV set where she does the Google on her name and refreshes every forty seconds or so to see if she is still ‘a thing,’ and she pounded out some gen-u-wine Northen Frontier gibberish.
It seems that it has come to Sarah’s attention that Karl Rove got his man-boob caught in a wringer for saying that Hillary Clinton has brain damage, and Karl should know because he worked with George W. Bush for a hell of a long time. It was a pretty stupid thing for Rove to say and he walked it back a smidge, kinda sorta not.
Palin agrees, we think — you’ll see in a minute– that this is terrible, but you want to know who the real victim is here?
Go on. Guess. [Hint: it's Sarah Palin]
It’s Sarah Palin.
Her reaction can best be described with a quote from Remembrance of Things Past, where Proust wrote: “Someone jes done shit theyselves a kitten.”
Go ahead, look it up, it’s in there unless you have a crappy translation.
Sarah Palin, who has never had a grievance that she didn’t clutch like a shiny dime, wants you to remember that the liberal media [Andrew Sullivan] spent a great deal of time [Andrew Sullivan's time] casting aspersions [Andrew Sullivan did that] on the parenthood of Baby Trig [Andrew Sullivan did not father Trig because he's...you know]. And amidst some links Sarah Palin seems to be typing while she’s experiencing an aneurysm — if it is possible for Sarah Palin to have an aneurysm — and, well, here is Sarah Palin – Unplugged:

DeleteA Virginia man surrendered to police over the weekend after he allegedly shot his brother in the face.
ReplyDeleteAccording to WWBT, Chesterfield police said that a 26-year-old brother went to “check on” his younger, 23-year-old brother at the mobile home where he was living with his parents at around 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The older brother said that he had taken a pistol because of past arguments with the younger brother, and information that the younger brother had fired a weapon inside the mobile home.
The 26-year-old brother told police that he shot the younger brother in the face and in the neck after he flashed a gun. He claimed that the shooting had been in self defense.
“I was in my den… I heard gunshots everywhere,” Neighbor Nancy Reynolds told WWBT. “We saw the ambulance, and the man being brought out of a stretcher.”
“The yelling, the arguing, door slamming… sounded like punching of walls,” neighbor Angel Fuller recalled. “I don’t know what it was…just loud banging of noises.”
After calling 911, the older brother waited for EMS crews to arrive. Police said that the 23-year-old shooting victim coughed up the bullet that had passed through his nose and spit it out while they were interviewing him.

Indiana 4-year-old fatally shoots self in head with gun found in parents’ bedroom
ReplyDeleteA northwest Indiana boy fatally shot himself Saturday after finding a gun in his parents’ bedroom.
Merrillville police said 4-year-old Cash Irby Jr. took the gun into his own bedroom, where it somehow fired and shot him once in the head.
Officers said the boy was unresponsive when they arrived, and he was pronounced dead at an area hospital, reported WGN-TV.
A family member said the gun was placed on a high shelf inside a closet.
The boy’s parent’s said he must have climbed on something to retrieve the loaded handgun.
The parents told police they were tending to their 5-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son when they heard the gunshot.
The Lake County coroner ruled the boy’s death an accident, but the case remains under investigation.

I am so sick of these being termed 'accidents' and no one held accountable. Until we arrest and prosecute these too lazy to unload and load gun nuts, how many kids must die?
DeleteSue -
DeleteLet's imagine that an adult goes into a house, leaving a car running in the driveway with the doors open and a young child standing unsupervised nearby. Let's say that child gets in the car, drives off a nearby bridge, and is killed. Can you imagine a scenario where the adult would not face criminal charges for being a completely irresponsible, negligent moron? Of course not!
For some inexplicable reason, allowing a small child to have access to a loaded weapon seems to get a pass all too often in this country, even when that child, or someone nearby, is shot and killed. And the family gets all kind of sympathy for the suffering they endure because of the 'tragic accident'. It's not an accident when someone leaves a loaded weapon where anyone can get it...it's a CRIME!
We need a new word for these incidents, they're anything but "accidents". This story sounds fishy, the parents kept a loaded gun on a high shelf in a closet, the kid climbed up on something and must have found it.... they heard the gun go off while tending to two other kids. They;ll probably keep custody of the gun, ammo, and the two kids that are left.
DeleteUPDATE on Mississippi and McD
ReplyDeleteOooh, That Would Be Bad
That bizarre story down in the Mississippi Senate primary may have just gotten dicier. The wife of that 'blogger' who broke into Thad Cochran's wife's nursing says he took it down because Chris McDaniel, Cochran's Tea Party opponent, told him to.
That would be an unfortunate development for McDaniel since he's stated categorically that he only found out about the incident a couple weeks later after the blogger, Kelly, got arrested.

ReplyDeleteGun-rights activists have shot themselves in the foot, again, with a gun rally that caused another major American retail chain to declare firearms unwelcome.
Chipotle on Monday said it wanted customers to stop bringing guns to its restaurants, after photos of an open-carry rally at one of its Dallas restaurants went viral -- thanks in part to the shrewd social-media campaign of a gun-control group. The striking photos showed a dozen or so people brandishing firearms, including semiautomatic rifles, both inside and outside the restaurant.
"The display of firearms in our restaurants has now created an environment that is potentially intimidating or uncomfortable for many of our customers," a spokesman for Chipotle, which has about 1,600 U.S. stores, said in a statement.
After the open-carry rally on Saturday, the gun-control group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America launched a campaign on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #burritosnotbullets. Front and center in the group's posts were photos from the event.

Paranoid gun fetishists #BoycottChipotle because they can’t eat a Burrito without a gun
DeleteChipotle’s decision prompted a deluge of Tweets, some of which are particularly hilarious.
Because a Burrito without a gun just seems too crazy:

Open Carry Texas and Open Carry Tarrant County are their own worst enemies. Instead of allowing others to eat out in a civilized manner, they had to bring their agenda right into the diners’ faces at Chipotle. With their finger on the trigger.
Nice try, Gryphen. Wrong again.
ReplyDeleteRead the full statement.
Only responsible gun owners are being asked to leave their guns outside the restaurant. The "no guns" policy SPECIFICALLY exempts "whiny little pussies who need their guns carried visibly in order to compensate for profound lack of self-esteem, deeply-felt insecurity, debilitating fear of social interaction especially with dark-skinned people, and the misguided belief that comically parading around with an assault rifle carried atop a massive belly makes them attractive to women." Pew! Pew! Pew! See the difference?
Do some research before you blog, dude! smh I feel sorry for you!
Oh! Don't forget I have a class in maturity you really should take. It's an online course. Can I send you a link?
Sigh. It's Starbucks all over again. These morons are their own worst enemies. NO business is going to embrace a "bring all your guns" policy unless they already cater only to rednecks or want to go out of business.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, a chain that was happy to simply follow local laws whatever they may be is forced to take a position due to gun nerds using their business as a platform to make an unpopular (and stupid) statement.
"No Shoes No Shirt No Gun No Service" Since corporations are people too, they have every right to make up their own policies. If the language was more divisive and actually ban weapons in their stores, I'd appreciate it and respect them a lot more.
ReplyDeleteWhy weren't the arrested? I'm sure if two black guys walk in with assault rifles the Dallas SWAT team would've shown up.
ReplyDeleteIt is legal to carry a weapon for self defense. But it is important you should have conceal carry permit. Many people don't have any knowldge about what is conceal carry and its importance? The best solution for them is go for mass gun school.
