Nearly half of all liberal Democrats said they were closely following the story of racist comments made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Less than one in five conservative Republicans said the same. On the other hand, almost four in 10 conservative Republicans said they were closely following the formation of the Benghazi House select committee, while just 15 percent of liberal Democrats said the same.
The reality made plain by these numbers? That the difference between Democrats and Republicans is beyond simple disagreements on a set of mutually agreed upon decisions. Instead, it's founded in the fact that the two simply don't care about -- or, at the very least, aren't paying attention to -- the same things at the same time. The Benghazi committee is a perfect example. For Democrats -- elected officials and the party base -- it's a sideshow issue (at best). But, many Republicans are following it extremely closely and believe that the committee is far more than a fishing expedition aimed at damaging President Obama and/or Hillary Clinton.
The Pew numbers reflect a broader trend that has accompanied the fracturing of the mainstream media over the last decade-plus. And that is silo-ing of media consumption where liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans can read, watch and listen to only viewpoints similar to their own. As a result, different segments along the ideological spectrum have not just different views on the same issue but entirely different palettes of issues that attract their attention.
You know I read all of this and I was trying to come up with some catchy zingers to throw out about the Right Wing, and their obsession with finding scandals under every bush on the White House lawn.
But what kept echoing through my head over and over again was, "We're fucked!"
Well that is we're fucked until the viewers of Fox News finally all keel over in their La-Z-Boys and pilot their personal mobility scooters off this mortal coil with their spirit screaming "Benghazi" at the top of its lungs.
After that, things should be fine.
off topic, but have any Alaskan heard about this May 24th?

That is the reason 'they' go out and vote more likely than 'we' do... We HAVE to get out the vote and make sure that especially WOMEN vote - and vote for what is BEST for women.

ReplyDeleteThe biggest difference is that Liberals have a sense of humor and recognize satire. Conservatives do not.
ReplyDeleteLook who liberals have: David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert.
Who do the conservatives have? Dennis Miller. Who ceased to be funny decades ago.
I rest my case.
The thing liberals do best is care for the less fortunate, realize the importance of the social safety net, stand up for equal rights for all.
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives? Slash line items without realizing the impact it has on everyday people. For instance, they voted down a bill for veterans that would have spent billions of dollars and built 23 new Veteran's Hospitals. Now they're on the "Do away with Vereran's hosptials and put them in the regular health care system" bandwagon because the VA needs improvement and the President is on it. No reason to shut it down, but passing that bill would have gone a long way at helping our veterans. And they pick the week before their holiday to politicize it.
Where were they when GWBush was in office? The VA had problems before he accelerated two wars, one totally out of revenge.
Here is an interesting conspiracy theory... Rothchild, Bush Sr., and the Saudi's... WAKE UP! This has been going on for far too long. Seriously, maybe I sound crazy but come on the coincidence the past connections, it points to these players and their hand in the demise of the middle class. POWER and CORRUPTION.
