A controversial Texas gun group has called on activists (to) make the Texas Republican Party convention the next front in their battle for the right to openly carry assault-style rifles as many places as possible.
In a recent Facebook posting, the group attempted to call attention to its cause by organizing Republican delegates to bring long guns and black powder revolvers to the Texas Republican Party convention later this week.
"All delegates, I urge you to open-carry the whole time,” Open Carry Tarrant County coordinator Kory Watkins wrote. “I will be a delegate with my AK 47. Thomas Jefferson would be proud.”
City officials, however, pointed out that guns would not be welcome in the Fort Worth Convention Center as long as alcohol was being served.
“With this type of TABC license, the only type of weapon allowed into an establishment is concealed-carry and those on licensed peace officers,” Fort Worth director of public facilities and events Kirk Slaughter told the Star-Telegram. “The license doesn’t allow bringing in guns other than those that are licensed.”
Well now THIS might prove interesting.
I wonder if the Texas Republicans will risk angering their base by refusing to allow these dipshits to walk around with their rifles dragging on the ground behind them, or if they will simply cave in to another special, special interest group and let them do what they want.
This kind of thing almost makes me wonder if this Tarrant County Open Carry group is not trolling the Republicans, and NRA, in some way.
I mean if they were it is absolutely brilliant.
However I have heard a couple of them speak, and brilliant is certainly not a word that springs to mind.
OMG-- Gryphen, I just love "ammosexuals!" That is brilliant.
ReplyDelete"..., the only type of weapon allowed into [this type of] establishment is concealed-carry..."
ReplyDeleteA dinky little penis extender under a clothing item does not excite and stimulate like fondling a great honking assault weapon in front of unarmed fast food patrons with small children.
But at least the Texas GOP conventioneers can plot insanely looser gun control laws in relative safety.
I have an idea. I come from a huge family. Most of us are African American. The men in my family mostly stand over six foot three. There are about the twenty or so men under the age of thirty. Though none of them are hunters, and maybe two of them are actual firearm owners-- I'm thinking they should rent a bus and tour all of the open carry states or those that want to be.
ReplyDeleteWe can arm them to the teeth with AR47s or whatever looks like it could take out an entire town in one minute, making sure they wear black t-shirts with photos of Malcolm X on them (instead of the Gadsden flag) and dark sunglasses. Then we'll have them sidle into Home Depots and through small southern towns---again ----armed to the teeth.
I'm taking bets on how many of my relatives will actually return alive. I'm paying American dollar bills on the bets. How many of those open carry idiots will be the ones shooting them down in the street because----they were Big, black and scary? And you know open carry is just for them.
Maybe we can tell what California did when the Panthers showed up armed in the 70s. They'd probably be okay with that.
All those ammisexuals would piss themselves if this happened.
DeleteIt would be kind of like when the Tri-Lams showed up at the pep rally and the Alpha-Betas cringed in defeat !
DeleteLove that flag in the photo: "Come and Take It" -- believe me, if the Federal Government really wanted to "Come and Take It", they would, with no problem, and you ammosexuals would be crapping in your pants.
DeleteAngela, how come you don't know what every Tea Bagger knows?
DeleteThe Foundling Fathers wrote the Constitution for WHITE men, preferably double-wide, in girth and in domicile.
Just because there's an amendment granting civil rights to the darker-hued members of the population doesn't mean there won't be another amendment coming down the pike soon to flip it back the other way. That's why your Tea Baggers - and way too many judges on the SC - want a return to the ORIGINAL Constitution without these ridiculous amendments.
Trust me, it will be better for everyone that way. Ok, not better for black people. Or hispanics or asians or women. Or atheists. But, seriously, once we get the ORIGINAL Constitution back, it will be better for everyone else. I promise.
ps, I forgot to mention that the Second Amendment and whichever amendment permits christian prayer in public schools get to stay.
Because... um.... the baggers like those amendments.
Angela, you are correct. Not many of your relatives would come back alive. This cause is NOT worth their lives. Unfortunately, sooner or later, there WILL be lives lost when one of the (rightfully) terrorized citizens opens fire on one of these cretins.
Delete@Beldar J Conehead:
DeleteROFLMAO!!
I have noticed that all of the pea-brains pictured at these open carry demonstrations are white, relatively young, with beer bellies, poor grammar and absolutely no understanding of our Constitution.
DeleteI would bet money that they go to church every Sunday so that everyone knows what good Christians they are when they're not threatening and frightening the snot out of women and children. I would also bet that they have minimum wage jobs and no friends with skin any darker than marshmallow fluff.
They are the people with whom the rest of us Americans are embarrassed to be associated.
You need to do it right.
DeleteGo to where the Open Carry nuts are holding their rally.
Then one of your relatives joins them. I'm sure they'll greet one tanned gentleman with open arms. Just to show they're inclusive and all. Then a bit later have another relative join them. And so on about every 15-30 min. Until eventually they are out numbered by peaceful folk that don't look like their fathers or brothers or sons.
We'll see how that sits with them.
And no one gets hurt.
The GOP has already been divided and damaged by the actions of the Tea Party. I expect more of the same to be done to the GOP by the ammosexuals. The Republicans have brought this on themselves, so let our laughter at their predicament begin!
ReplyDeleteAren't circular firing squads fun to watch?
DeleteGood, let them!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they'll all have lots of fun until there's an 'accident'.
Thomas Jefferson would have put a musket ball between Cory Watkins eyes.

Gun Activists Cut Up NRA Member Cards Over Criticism Of AR-15s In Restaurants
ReplyDeleteGun lovers in Texas are furious at the National Rifle Association right now.
In response to the NRA's statement on Friday criticizing Texas activists' recent tactics, members of the pro-gun group Open Carry Texas have been cutting up their NRA membership cards, and the group has issued a statement demanding a retraction of the NRA's "disgusting and disrespectful comments." Or else.

‘Downright Weird’ Gun Nuts May Lead to NRA Finally Losing the Political Battle On Gun Laws
ReplyDelete...As you can see, the NRA is terrified that these gun nuts will bring about a reversal of all of the deregulation and loosened gun laws that the NRA has worked so hard for these past few years. While they don’t want to outwardly offend these so-called activists, as they are their most loyal members and make the NRA’s real masters, the gun and ammo manufacturers, extremely happy as they are the biggest consumers of their products, they don’t want public sentiment to shift all the way over to legitimate gun restrictions, laws and regulations. They’ve worked far too hard and greased way too many palms to let the crazies (who likely make up a very large portion of their membership) ruin it for them.
However, it might be too late for the NRA and its conservative supporters.

This is so wrong. So superficial. You can dress nicely without 100s of thousands of dollars.
ReplyDeleteNow it makes me wonder WHY the WH has the need to do those Target photo ops with Michelle.
I guarantee she hasn't shopped "lowly" or for herself in a decade.
??? How would you know ??

Most Americans Want No-Gun Policies At Shops, Restaurants
ReplyDeleteAccording to the poll, 55 percent of Americans prefer that retailers and restauranteurs don't allow guns, while only 32 percent prefer that they do. The poll found a partisan divide, with a no-gun policy preferred by Democrats 72 percent to 19 percent, and by independents 48 percent to 34 percent. Republicans said they preferred establishments that allow guns 50 percent to 41 percent.

It's a good thing Texas has all those millions of (low-paying) jobs for its citizens and doesn't rely on tourism. I've been to the state once (about 20 years ago) but I'd never set foot in it again with all those weapons out and about. It boggles the mind, it really, really does.
ReplyDeleteMarine gets death threats after confronting Texas assault rifle activists on public street
ReplyDeleteA Marine veteran in Texas was forced to change his phone number and is now carrying a gun with him at all times after a confrontation with members of a gun-rights group on a public street led to Internet death threats.

ReplyDeleteMN man pulls shotgun on neighbor teaching daughter to ride bike: ‘I should have shot him’
ReplyDelete...“If you don’t like my advice, get off my street,” Drake told the man, who reminded his neighbor he didn’t own the street.
This apparently angered Drake even more, and police said he went inside to retrieve a Remington 870 shotgun.
He came back with the weapon and threatened to kill the father, but Drake’s wife came outside, pulled the gun away from him, and physically dragged her husband back inside.
But police said Drake came back outside once again and told the father he would kill him.
Officers were called to Drake’s home, and his wife said he had gone inside to watch television.
Drake admitted to police that he had a confrontation with the father, saying he didn’t like how the man treated the girl during the bike-riding lesson.

Just one more 'responsible gun owner'.
DeleteGOOD! I mean, what's good for the goose, is good for the gander, correct? ;) after all, it is mostly the Rethugs who do not want any type of control over guns and who can carry, so there should be nothing they would have to worry about, right?
ReplyDeleteI still think these cretins should band together and patrol each and every home and street or neighborhood of each and every politician who refuses to license/register/insure guns. I betcha they will be very, very quick to change laws...
It is high time the Republicans actually experience what these gun nuts are doing. I hope every single one of them carries every weapon they own into the Texas Republican Convention. I hope Sarah Palin goes down to Texas and joins them. But Sarah is a coward and she will not go where there are actually nuts with guns. But Old Ted Cruz will be sure to be there. Maybe there will be an accident and someone's gun will go off
ReplyDeleteFunny how the people who yell the most about gun rights are the ones who ban them from their own gatherings - GOP and NRA conventions.
DeleteNot Texas, but equally messed up:

ReplyDeleteThere's a thin line between crazy and stark raving mad. Buck Up, GOP. Which right is more important, the right to drink alcohol or the right to open carry your extender?
ReplyDeleteI hope Boehner has a "plan b" ready- no way he can last one speech without downing the good stuff.
Can't have guns where alcohol is being served.
ReplyDeleteNow there's a dilemma. Making them choose between guns and booze.
I'll bet their brows are permanently furrowed trying to decide between the two.
