Here is how the New York Post describes the film:
The Lord works in mysterious ways but “Persecuted” works in blundering, obvious ways, straining a Christianity-under-attack theme through a dopey thriller.
James Remar plays a Billy Graham-like evangelist who refuses to back a corrupt senator (Bruce Davison) pushing some sort of religious-unity bill for which details never quite emerge but that would effectively neutralize US Christianity. Or something.
Framed for rape and murder in moronic ways that wouldn’t fool anybody, the evangelist turns fugitive while he tries to clear his name with the aid of his dad — a priest played by Fred Dalton Thompson. Hey, you know who else wandered in the wilderness?
Of course as all of you know "Arts and Entertainment" is one of the mountains described in the Seven Mountains mandate put forth by the Dominionists.
And this movie, along with "Heaven is Real," "Noah," "Exodus," and a whole slew of others is supposed to convince the nonbelievers that God is real and religion is necessary, and also gives the believers something to watch which kowtows to their primitive superstitions.
Personally I welcome the idea that the Religious Right is turning to cinema as way to prove the existence of God.
That just makes it all the easier for me to convince the naysayers that Batman is real.
After all HE has been in tons of movies, almost as many as Jesus. So take that you, Dark Knight atheists!
P.S. But seriously this movie is, if you will pardon the expression, god awful. And it is certainly not going to win any converts, though it might help to reinforce the American Christian's ever increasing persecution complex.
Evangelicals have failed to realize they lost the battle already. There will always be the fringe, but people see religion for what it is.. mind control and domination and a lot less of god.

Floyd J. Orr's book, "Paradigm Shift: The Palin Matrix," explains the southern strategy, and how we came to be where we are, pretty well. I do not know the man, but every time I see something like this, I think of that book. Of course the RWNJs think he's deluded and panned it all to hell.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very interesting read that I found enlightening, also, too. Floyd might be goofy in some ways (sorry, Floyd), but he really nailed the topic of the roots of the religiosity invasion of America in public life in Paradigm Shift.
DeletePlus, if you have a nostalgic bone in your body, check out another of his books, Timeline of America, which I found to be a witty, fun read. I once thought myself to be a helluva Trivial Pursuit player back when I could still remember stuff. Others weren't nearly as impressed. Anyways, these days, I'd rather read about and observe (& laugh at) TeaBaggers before they all die and become extinct as a novelty, just as pet rocks, mood rings, and lava lamps had their day and disappeared suddenly without fanfare. Oh, and blacklight posters.
O/T: the latest FB posts by SP prove that she is still on her "Look at ME!" kick. She's on an impeachment rant, and has the gall to call the powers-that-be at the Washington Post "wusses" for not doing investigative reporting on our President. Wouldn't it be the ultimate karma for the Washington Post reporters to finally investigate the Lies of Sarah Palin and make her shut up for good? I would love for her tall tales to be exposed to all.
ReplyDeleteOl' Skank thinks she's got a hot issue to snag onto. She's like a rabid dog with a bone. She thinks she's the Queen of Impeachment and now she's challenging the press like a fucking bully that she is. She is carrying on with all sorts of nonsense, but what I notice is that the media is pretty much ignoring her. She's screaming into the wind and it's coming right back at her. She doesn't even have many 'likes' compared to what she used to garner. She's just carrying on like she's some sort of constitutional expert, which she is not. She has no clout, she's just got her big mouth and lately, her drunken behavior is getting the attention and not in a good way. She's gonna be squealing impeach from now until 2017 when he leaves office. Fair warning, Sarah, if you really want the media to do their investigative best, they may just start with you and your lies, murderous criminal activity, child trafficking and prostitution, not to mention that flat out lie about your 'pregnancy'. Yep, that would really cook your goose, so be careful what you demand, it may come back and rip you a new one.
DeleteSo the evangelical's dad is a priest? Catholic or Episcopal....hmm...the plot thickens....

On Fox News: Religious Intolerance Is An Atrocity Unless It’s Practiced By Christians
ReplyDeleteLast week Megyn Kelly of Fox News featured a segment that was crammed full of outrage over the bigotry demonstrated by the extremist ISIS brigade that is terrorizing much of Iraq. As ISIS marches through the nation that was fatally destabilized by George W. Bush and his confederacy of liars, any religious faction that is not aligned with the ISIS brand of Sunni Islam is dealt with brutally and mercilessly. This, of course, includes the Christians in the region. And it is the Christians for whom Fox News is solely concerned.
In a delivery dripping with fear, Kelly gravely reported on an alleged directive from ISIS that Christians in the city of Mosul “could leave, they could convert to Islam, or they could die.” This is certainly further evidence of the extremist intentions of the group and Fox News is correct to repudiate the threat as an assault on religious freedom.
However, there are a couple of problems with their newly acquired aversion to intolerance (a subject they generally dismiss as political correctness). For one thing, it never bothered them when conservative firebrand, and Fox News fave, Ann Coulter said pretty much the same thing, but with a somewhat different emphasis.

Fuck them all and let "Gog" sort 'em out.
ReplyDeleteGretchen Carlsen is in that stupid movie, and she is none too pleased at the bad reviews. See, Ms. Persecutor is now being persecuted for being a Christian (and a woman, and a blond, and a Faux Noise pundit.) I think she's been taking lessons from Sarah.
ReplyDeleteOf course, to that ilk, "persecution" means any random non-wackadoo saying "Meh, I don't think I agree with you".
DeleteOh, the Evilvangelicals who willingly send their SS checks to any fire and brimstone televangelist to "buy" their way into Heaven will regard these overblown, overacted trash films as finger-shakin' "proof" for us filthy heathens. Funny that these hypocrites are usually the first ones to put the entertainment industry down, unless it validates THIER beliefs...
ReplyDeleteGreat review here by a Republican with common sense:
ReplyDelete"“Persecuted” begins with a rather repugnant re-contextualization of a Martin Luther King, Jr. quote—”A man who won’t die for something is not fit to live”—and ends in an office adorned with a large Betsy Ross flag, which has obvious connotations with revolution. It would seem that the filmmakers are calling for a violent uprising. But against what? Given that Lusko couldn’t even manage to envision the contents of the hypothetical bill that would decimate religious freedom in America as we know it, it’s safe to assume that the ideological premise of “Persecuted” is rooted in irrational fear and anger, not a legitimate concern for said freedom. I have no doubt that a decent film could be made about American progressives’ attempts to delegitimize faith-based perspectives in politics, but this is not it. A truly vile piece of reactionary propaganda, “Persecuted” gives Christian conservatives a bad name."

Too bad they stole the title of Sarah Palin's next piece of propaganda.
FREE TICKETS FOR PREACHERS!
ReplyDeleteThe film, which is being released July 18 by Millennium Entertainment, pushed back from its original date of May 9, launched a website Thursday that advertises Preacher's Night Out. Filling out a form gets a preacher two free tickets to the film at a regular theatrical showing after it opens.
The strategy differs from the usual tactic of films trying to woo the faithful with pre-screenings, then attempting to pack theaters by selling group tickets to churches.
the usual sales pitch

Damn, did they steal the title of Palin's next propaganda film? Oh well lucky for her "Persecution Complex" is still available.
ReplyDeleteOMD! It has THE Fred Dalton Thompson in it???? The dude who sells "second mortgages" to people while passing Pedro, the newsstand guy? It's destined for the dumpster right above "backdraft" and below "The undefeated, druggie version"...... All these christian propaganda movies have the same theme. Epic yawn.
ReplyDeleteopps, I meant "reverse mortgages"
