Dan Sullivan is the Republican choice to face off against Mark Begich in November.

Courtesy of Alaska Dispatch:

Dan Sullivan, the former Alaska attorney general and natural resources commissioner, declared victory early Wednesday in one of the most divisive Alaska Republican primaries in decades, while Fairbanks lawyer Joe Miller ran 8 points behind in second place. Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell trailed third in the fight to take on Democratic Sen. Mark Begich in the fall.

With more than 98 percent of precincts reporting, Sullivan picked up more than 40 percent of the vote, followed by Miller with 32 percent and Treadwell with 25 percent. The Associated Press called the race for Sullivan at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. In a statement, Sullivan said he looked "forward to painting a clear contrast between Mark Begich’s inability to move our state forward and my vision for a brighter and better Alaska."

A short post of Joe Miller's blog, "Restoring Liberty," early Wednesday morning said Miller had called Sullivan to congratulate him. "While there are still over 20,000 absentee ballots to be counted and several major precincts yet to report, it seems unlikely we will be able to close the 7000 vote gap, given the current trends. I have called and congratulated Dan Sullivan for running a strong campaign.”

I have to admit I am a little shocked that Miller had such a strong showing.

I was pretty sure that he would trail both Sullivan and Treadwell, so the fact that he pulled in 32 percent is a little troubling. Sometimes I forget just how many idiots are living up here with me.

Of course Sullivan is no prize either.

He is a carpetbagger from the east coast who has claimed on his taxes that his principle residence is in Maryland. He was appointed as the Alaska Attorney General by then Governor Sarah Palin, after her earlier appointee, Talis Colberg, resigned in disgrace, and the Alaska Legislature rejected her first choice as his replacement, Wayne Anthony Ross.

So yes Sullivan is another Palin-ite who has continued to protect her up here, and who as Senator will undoubtedly do exactly as you would expect an associate of the Wasilla Wendigo to perform his duties.

Sullivan will have a lot of money to work with in the November election so Begich needs all of the support he can get.

I predict Begich will win, but it will undoubtedly be a squeaker.

Nice try, Gryphen, but NOBODY puts Joe Miller in a corner!

You can gloat all you want, but Joltin' Joe isn't down and he sure isn't out! In fact, anonymous sources speculate that he has already begun the process of unseating Senator Lisa Murkowski in 2016 in a LANDSLIDE!

(sadly, that's not likely to be an electoral landslide but rather an actual Alaskan slide of land, but still a stunning victory for Joe...)

Except this time, I predict, he avoids the persistent douchiness of the "Joe Miller" brand and runs as "Leon Kompowski", a retired mental patient from Springfield (or possibly North Haverbrook) who sounds a lot like the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.

It'll be a tough campaign but Joltin' Joe - I mean Leon - is not nothing if not tough as nails and stubbly to boot, by gum!

The laughs will be on YOU and your libtard blog buddies on January 3, 2017 when Jeebus hisself administers the oath of office to Alaska's newest junior senator!

Your last few remaining visitors to this defunct blog should be asking why you never write about Joe's future successes but only his past failures. I feel sorry for you. smh

Beldar, your majesty, I need your expert advice.

In order to be a retired mental patient, should one retire first, or is it better to lose touch with reality first and then retire? Or are you referring to a mental patient who got tired of being a career mental patient and "retired" to a normal life outside the institution? I really need to know because, um, I mean I'm asking for a friend. This "person" is considering a new career in politics.

Beldar is all serious business when it comes to political commentary and societal matters viewed from a satirical perspective. He's like Gandhi, but more buff and is also funnier.

Beldar's biggest challenge in life is to remain mindful that he is, and always be, the smartest alien in the room.

What might seem simple is actually quite a burden, especially dealing with the plethora of press requests and maintaining crowd control with his small volunteer posse serving as security detail, PR, concessions, marketing, finance, accounting, legal, travel/vacation, arts&entertainment, and economic advisers.

Beldar is not only a global knowledge base, but also a growth industry providing millions of jobs and car elevators to his esteemed client base which includes Mitt Romney, Donald Trump and Chuck Norris, each at the top of their area of expertise in politics/race relations, philanthropy/motivational speaking, and acting/martial arts, respectively.

And just think about it: Beldar made them each the men they are today.

Beldar's newest client coming into his stable is US Senator-elect Joe Miller of AK. Can you imagine Miller looking like Grizzly Adams or Jeremiah Johnson after working with Beldar for a few short months! I'm heading out to buy a new weed-whacker today!

You ever get the impression Palin endorsements are a lot like the scene in National Lampoons Vegas Vacation where Clark Griswold down on his luck goes to the different casino?

Okay, I went to Ohio Dan's website and looked at the video ad there titled "Service". First we see him in uniform with the small disclaimer that the images do not imply endorsement by the DOD or Marines. As a retired officer myself, I would prefer that he didn't use the images period even with the disclaimer and I don't care who you are or what party you represent. Then it says he pursued terrorists across the globe while showing him with the title of US Asst. Secretary of State. Well that's true he was the Asst. Secretary for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs. Not sure what that has to do with pursuing terrorists. Then it talks about his time as Attorney General where "he worked to end violence against women" using a photo of him at a march next to Elvi Gray-Jackson who has asked him not to use her likeness since February but still, there it is. It also says he sued the Federal Government to stop Obama Care. Well that is what I want to be know for, trying to keep people without health care from getting it. Then as head of the DNR "he fought to jump start energy production and our economy". Hmmm, how was that Dan? By going along with the Governors blatant give away to the oil companies? Oh elsewhere on his website he toutsabout how he was worked for Condeleeza Rice both at NSC and State. Now there is something to be proud of. How's it coming with the mushroom cloud?

The instant this photo showed up I thought "Wow, this guy has a serious drinking problem"!! Trust me, I have dealt with alcoholics for more years than you can count, and the signs are right there on his face. Eyes like "two piss holes in the snow" as some used to say. Dubya had that same shifty eyed look. Begich should do some digging into this guy's backgroiund. Why did he move to Alaska???

We'll never know if Democrats, once again, beefed up Joe Miller's numbers; but it would help to explain his showing.

And God, once again, failed to advance his chosen candidate. ;-p

Just remember the punchline of that old joke when voting for any republican candidate:

"You knew I was a snake when I picked you up"

Why is it the RWNJ are so appealing to so many in our population?

It was a tight race until Sarah dropped her anchor on Joe's chances of winning the primary.

After last week's disastrous endorsement from Sarah, Joe never had a chance.

The demise of Sarah's political career, including, her losing streak, reminds me of the 1962 NY Mets in terms of hapless futility.

She's so good at being stupid & awful that it's entertaining to watch and laugh at her consistent stream of mishsps & self-induced career blunders.

This is their Republican candidate that didn't show up for debates - didn't show up for election coverage, etc. He's really going to be a representative of the people of Alaska - the carpetbagger?

Hope Begich beats the shit out of him in November as he is a true Alaskan has worked hard for many years for all Alaskans!

Gryphen, careful who you are calling an idiot. I am registered Nonpartisan just in case of these circumstances where you have two strong repub candidates and a whack job who could get 33% and take it all, thus leaving a weak and unelectable opponent for the democrat. Yes, I asked for the R ballot and proudly voted for three complete nut jobs; Joe Miller, Russ Millette, and John Cox (he was actually waving a sign at an intersection with a gun strapped to his hip). I also voted for a guy named Kelly Wolf, who may or may not be a nut job (I don't really know or care). I cannot describe to you how good it felt to vote against Don Young, Dan Sullivan (mayor), and Sean Parnell. But those were just added benefits. The true point of it was to get Joe Miller in there as an unelectable whacko on the R ticket. I know at least three other Dems who did this. My new hope is that Joe will be so stoked at how many votes he got that he'll talk the Libertarian candidate into stepping aside, and then siphon off the teabaggers from Sullivan. Sure, there's a bit of risk involved with this strategy, but I was pretty sure that Mallott and Begich were going to win their primaries because of all the natives who would turn out for Mallott. I saw no downside this time. This could have been a real strategy for the Dems, they should have made an announcement; every Dem whose last name begins with A-L, vote for Begich, everyone whose M-Z, vote Miller. Then Begich would only have to have appeared to be sane, and he'd have won the general, easy-peasy. Now he's going to have to fight like hell and possibly lose to a D.C. backed carpetbagger.

Alaska’s newly minted Republican Senate nominee will awake the morning after his primary victory to a negative TV ad from a Democratic super PAC.

Put Alaska First, a group formed to support Democratic Sen. Mark Begich, launched an ad Wednesday against Republican Dan Sullivan targeting his lack of Alaska roots and using a controversial mining project in the state as a wedge issue.

“There’s two things you need to know about Dan Sullivan,” a Dillingham, Alaska, resident says in the ad, which is airing statewide on broadcast and cable. “He’s not from Alaska, and he supports the Pebble Mine.”

  16. Maybe Joe Miller got so many votes because people thought he would be easier for Begich to beat, thus ensuring a Begich win.
