Hillary Clinton would like all of you to know that she was not trying to attack the President in a recent interview in which she called his decisions in Syria a "failure." Oh, well alright then. Wait....

Courtesy of Politico:

Hillary Clinton called President Barack Obama on Tuesday to “make sure he knows that nothing she said was an attempt to attack him” when she recently discussed her views on foreign policy in an interview with The Atlantic, according to a statement from a Clinton spokesman.

The statement comes amid tension between the Clinton and Obama camps in the wake of the interview. It also comes as Obama and Clinton, his former secretary of state, are due to cross paths at a social gathering Wednesday night in Martha’s Vineyard.

In the interview, Clinton dismissed the Obama administration’s self-described foreign policy principle of “Don’t do stupid stuff.” And while she also praised Obama several times, Clinton nonetheless called his decision not to assist Syrian rebels early on a “failure.”

Yeah come on! How can telling reporters that you knew the right thing to do all along, implying that the President's choices were poorly thought out, and calling the result a failure, EVER be construed as an attack?

Here is the statement from her spokesperson:

Secretary Clinton was proud to serve with President Obama, she was proud to be his partner in the project of restoring American leadership and advancing America’s interests and values in a fast changing world,” said the statement, shared with POLITICO. “She continues to share his deep commitment to a smart and principled foreign policy that uses all the tools at our disposal to achieve our goals. Earlier today, the secretary called President Obama to make sure he knows that nothing she said was an attempt to attack him, his policies, or his leadership.

It continued: “Secretary Clinton has at every step of the way touted the significant achievements of his presidency, which she is honored to have been part of as his secretary of state. While they’ve had honest differences on some issues, including aspects of the wicked challenge Syria presents, she has explained those differences in her book and at many points since then. Some are now choosing to hype those differences but they do not eclipse their broad agreement on most issues. Like any two friends who have to deal with the public eye, she looks forward to hugging it out when ... they see each other tomorrow night.”

Yes well before that hug I suggest that the Secret Service pat her down for any knives she might have in her possession that might end up in our President's back.

One has to wonder if Hillary actually did not realize the impact her words would have, or is simply backtracking after being called out by people whose support she might need in her campaign?

For instance:
Like I said I am still going to support Hillary in 2016, because we need to hang on to the White House.

But I would really appreciate it if Hillary could allow me to mark my ballot without having to hold my nose while doing so.

This is the Hillary that made me dislike her intensely when running against Obama. I will support her, but I think her intention was to strike out at the Prez and then reel it back in so she can have a little distance. I think it shows enormous ego and very unattractive.

It's like the fable where the old lady saves the snake who then bites her. When she asks why he did it after she saved him he replies "you knew I was a snake when you picked me up"...

    2. It's politics.

If a male politician does it, it's savvy tactics.

If a female politician does it, it's unattractive and shows enormous ego.

@mlaiuppa --don't bring sex into this here. vegaslib makes a good point. Sure HRC will face the "She looks tired" or "look at her new haircut" etc. sexist BS when she runs, but this here was a pathetic political ploy. HRC does this all the time--and she does it badly. Her political games are always by the book and very transparent.

So basically, the president could actually commit murder and his diehards would make excuses for him. Yep, NOW I see the game you play, lefties.

    Pathetic.

It's called DISAGREEING WITH A PERSON.

Blogs are the worst inventions in the world.

No it's not called disagreeing with a person. You can disagree and still be respectful. She wasn't. She was in her campaign mode, which unfortunately is her ugliest mode. She could have disagreed without using the language she did. She could have disagreed with grace. She didn't. She threw him under the bus to a right wing journalist and the journalist spun it even further to set up a divide.

And your hyperbolic crap makes you look like an idiot, because no one is talking about murder. You are led around by the nose by your queen Sarah and you embarrass yourself with suggesting that we aren't discerning in our support for President Obama. Boy are you clueless. Look in the mirror and you'll see what's pathetic.

2:54 PM The Palins committed murder, arson, sex trafficking, misuse of public funds, and Perjury. We don't need a rightwing Palin Ass-Kissing Troll to try to tell us how to think. Bristol needs some advice about keeping her legs closed to Trial Daddies, so why don't you offer her your non-expert opinion?

  3. I'm with you, Gryphen. I don't like Hillary's neocon tendencies either. I'm wondering if she learned anything from the 2008 campaign. Let's see who she surrounds herself with this time around. If it's Mark Penn and that bunch I will REALLY have a hard time supporting her. Of course, I'll end up voting for whoever gets the Dem nomination because the republican clown car is abhorrent. Hint to Hillary: you need OFA and Democratic enthusiasm. Better start motivating the base.

Karen, neocon tendencies or not, any democrat who wants to win the next election will have to pander in some way or other to the regressives. One has to look at what their actions were in the past in order to put that pandering into perspective and with Ms. Clinton that is easily accompalished.
I shall leave it at that.
Yes, I may have to hold my nose in voting for a candidate who does not please me all the way, but that is called "compromise", and I totally agree with Gryphen on that.

Is all this nonsensical crap and carp about Hillary intended to make one overlook the fact that the country has been paralyzed for five years and society has been dragged into the gutter and this will remain the case until the black man is out of the White House?

Quit whining that Hillary is damaging Obama. The Republicans will continue to fling shit at him 24/7 regardless of what anyone says or does, and the Democrats have minds of their own.

And every time one of you bashes Hillary a Teabagger gets its wings. Congratulations.

Big picture people, big picture. We've got to get Democratic control of government and get some stuff done! Presidents serve 8 years tops, the Supreme Court....well how will that work out if the Republicans win back the WH?

You idiots in the Democratic party - we do NOT need Republicans winning in the upcoming elections. Vote your party!!! Save our country for crying out loud!

Don't get tied in knots over what you 'think' Hillary and Bill Clinton did (none of which has ever been proven!).

Get out the Democratic and Independent vote!!! Knock the Republicans off their pedestals in the U.S. Congress (House especially!).

Voting has never been more important than for this upcoming election.

I said this before - Hillary WILL have to separate herself from President Obama (to a degree) if she decides to run.

She has my vote - there is no Republican they have that can beat her due to her experience and years as a public servant.

Plus, love the idea of POTUS and POTUS Clintons together in D.C.! Bill Clinton is loved throughout the world. Just imagine what he could help bring to the table w/his wife as POTUS. He'd be a huge, huge help and influence.

    1. Extricating herself from the president smells. It smells of disloyalty and feeds into what many democrats say about Clinton. So why do democrats have to become republicans by disappearing a man who helped get millions healthcare, saved the economy and the auto industry and got rid of DADT
and supported marriage equality and other solid policies while being endlessly flogged by RWNJs?

Democrats see this as weasel politics and Clinton will suffer. She should suffer the consequences if she continues to do it. Also, I'm thinking the backlash of speaking out against her former boss with a wingnut journalist didn't work out the way she thought it would.

Take note of your belief of how well the Clintons are loved. If Hilary is elected, on day one there will be more misogynistic, hateful, Clinton affair and murder
rumors, and intrigue than you can shake a stick at. Its funny, republicans only started loving Clinton when they wanted to throw him in Obama's face as beloved. All bets and love are off if his wife becomes POTUS.

Affairs and murder are not only theirs' but Heath Palin departments. THIS is what we want to be elected? Sorry,Hillary, soon to be grandmother, and $arah grandmother of we lost count, but you'll never be elected. Enjoy the money.

4:23 You sound as though you don't know that Hillary and Bill have had your type after them for eons. And, you my dear, won't have much influence!

Bill is loved throughout the world - check your facts! They have served others for eons now - far more than any other couple in politics in either party.

IF Hillary runs (why would she put up w/the crap that President Obama has throughout his nearly finished two terms?) she will win. And, we'll have the Democrats in power for a long time - over the Republicans! The thought of which drives Republican f-cking nuts!

A black man and then a woman? Oh my god! Love it, love it and both of them!

I'd appreciate it if HRC not only did not require us to hold our noses voting for her, but if she would step up to the plate and not make us regret voting for her.

Can she take a hint? She was beaten by President Obama because he was not a war hawk.

The left nation is clamoring for Senators Sanders and Warren. After 8 years of Chimpy and Chumpy, even most moderates and some of the GOP realize a hard steer left is needed to begin to approach center. Can HRC grasp that?

Oh, that photo will get the racists going in America!

I love the fact President Obama asked Hillary to serve in his Administration after they had run against each other for POTUS. Speaks so well of both of them - him to ask and her to accept!

They have a long time history of working together and it's evident they respect each other.

    Love them both!

I'm going to wait to see who the Democratic nominee will be and then I will vote for him or her.

But, FIRST I am going to do what I can to help ensure that my Democratic Senator stays in her seat. I'm starting by making phone calls with the DNC to "undecided voters" beginning next week.

I hope that some of you will join me in volunteering even 1 evening for the cause.

Politics and watching sausage being made are hard to watch sometimes. Tactically, I know Hillary is trying to move more to the center, she just went about it the wrong way. The Clintons and the Obamas have worked well together, I'm sure President Obama understands whats going on, but this tactic reminds me of the Hillary I couldn't bring myself to vote for once I saw the entire Obama picture gel.
I'm with you, I'll be wearing my clothespin while voting for Hillary. It beats wearing a clown nose voting for a Republican, or not voting at all, which I've never done, and never will.

Hillary likes campaign mode which she describes as the "fun part" of the job.

I don't like her when she's mean. And that goes for any male candidates as well. Hillary wasn't saying what she believed, she said what she believed would be popular. Just like her vote to go to Iraq in the first place. She went along with the crowd because she was afraid not to. Afraid that it would hurt her chances to win. She is attacking the President (who always had her back) by attacking his decision now--she didn't attack his decision at the time it was being made. She might believe that she had the popular mindset, but once again that will be her undoing.
