What I think it really funny about this is that we have seen Palin in actual interviews express that exact same ignorance and lack of intelligence, and yet her supporters continue to claim that the producers of the movie smeared her.

ReplyDeleteThis clip, and SP's "rise" (I hope it's over) remind me of the aspect of our culture i find most appalling--the substitution of folksy ignorance for wisdom. There are many examples in our history of people of humble origins without prestigious degrees and wealthy parents, rising to greatness through their own determination and natural gifts. (Abe Lincoln, Harry Truman, even Bill Clinton are people who rose from humble origins). This is a wonderful trait in our culture---yet i fear that this has morphed into something else for much of our country---a person of national prominence spouting ignorant comments but treated as though their opinion has validity, although not backed up by any truth. These people were always part of our culture but more --and rightfully--marginalized than they currently are. Why have we changed so? How did our respect for humble origins morph into a "respect" (in some quarters) for lack of education and lack of knowledge. Hope this is not too awkwardly put.

DeleteBack in the 1970's I worked with a jeweler. He was a wise businessman who gave me some of the best advice to live by. The life lesson from him which helped me the most was: Always try to associate with those who are "better then me" socially and intellectually. Learn and grow from those contacts.
He would use himself as an example. This man loved to sail, but financially could never afford to own a sailboat. Instead he crewed out on others boats enjoying his love for sailing without the responsibility of boat ownership. He was able to rub elbows and make valuable contacts with those he would never associate with on a daily basis.
His advice has served me well....
I hope that folks are noticing that the Teabaggers are losing their primary races nationally. I think Americans ARE paying attention and showing so in their recent votes.

My god, in some ways she makes Reagan look like a statesman! But back then, intelligence was still valued in most elected officials. I thought this film exposed 3 aspects of the SP campaign very well. 1) her ignorance, 2) the win-at-all-costs attitude of campaign staffers, which selected her without research and 3) what it is like for an ordinary person to be thrust into an unrelenting national spotlight. The thing is, Sarah wasn't ordinary. She was and is less than ordinary. An ordinary person would have "blinked" if tapped to be VPOTUS but not Sarah. They were fooled by a deeply disturbed woman who was prepped and fully supported by the Heath machine to be the Wonder Woman of the US, something they fantasized about all their lives. Her entourage and family were part of this biggest con of the ages.
Her disability and dysfunction now shows and she's still being used as a carnival side show; they'll squeeze every last ounce of life out of her. Her apparent drug use, exploitation by her own family, deep resentments, hysteria, multiple personalities, make one for an instant feel very sorry for this woman.
A functional normal family, loving husband, adult siblings, parents, parenst-in-law, would have intervened with their loved one way sooner if she behaved this way in front of the world. But not the Heath/Palins. That says a lot.

It's obvious that Obama, the smart, intellectual, handsome, constitutional lawyer and U.S.Senator, BUT BLACK, made it acceptable to Palin's followers to display their racism and, in fact, be proud of it. That, to me, is the real damage she did.

Steve Schmidt and Nicholle Wallace were vindicated, to an extent, by this movie being aired. At one time she claimed she was a ASU but it was proven to be a lie. She lies about EVERYTHING!
I remember when brisket claimed she was a student at Arizona State University, and when she was asked what her SAT scores were she didn't know what that meant. REALLY...I'm not kidding. This is straight from Arizona. So we stoped asking anything about her class load since right there and there we knew she was full of it.

If Palin had some self respect she would've crawled back to her shithole and stayed there so that the world would forget about her.
