Just a reminder of what it was that turned so many of us against Sarah Palin back in 2008.

Somebody sent me this clip the other day, and as I was watching it I remembered how incredibly angry I became, and how I decided right then that I would not only help to make sure that McCain and Palin lost the election, but that Palin would be driven from office back here in Alaska after returning in defeat, and that I would someday reveal to the world all of the secrets that she has been trying to hard to keep quiet.

Two down, one to go.

(P.S. Here is Josh Marshall of TPM's write up about this McCain rally.)

That we are still, after all this time, saddled with Palin and her vile rhetoric is nauseating. She just seems to be indestructible.

I really hope the "one to go" comes to fruition, Gryphen, and not end up being another one of those promised icebergs that failed to materialize.

During the campaign she learned where the bread was buttered, that is, on the side of polarization, divisiveness and hateful and sometimes racist hyperbole. It's easy to understand the sequence. She went back to Alaska where they wouldn't have any of it, she was using the state as a platform, ie with turning down stimulus funds for weatherproofing, for a future run. "I do so not want to go back to Alaska, Steve." She quit, went all Hollywood. I do hope that she keeps that votive candle lit in front of McCain's portrait.

I had no use for Palin after reading about Troopergate. I was like holy shit, if she used her power to try and get her brother in law fired, imagine what she would do to a Putin or a Democratic senator who vetoed a bill she wanted.

    1. The Branchflower report was horrifying. It documented clear, and clearly illegal abuses of power. I naively thought it would sink Sarah Palin.

She is a dangerous demagogue. Yet someone always tries to insist we should just ignore her. Ask Wooten and others who suffered, and ask those who remember the ones who died because of Sarah Palin if we should just ignore her.

During the election, the world watched as Palin embarrassed the USA. She spewed her vitriol and gained a following. She unleashed the worst in people and gave the right wing fringe power. Yes, she was a joke but she presented a danger that festered and then bloomed. The Tea Party found its shrieking voice and the country traveled on a path of division not inclusion. The right wing was pulled further right, dangerously close to its most extreme. (Read this in preparation for your next talk with a right-winger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far-right_politics)

She was a curiosity for far too long and was given too much power by an unhinged base. But thanks to her constant uneducated yapping, she is now simply an international laughing stock. Enjoy Wonkette's latest:

I will always remember the day I heard of John McCain's VP pick on August 29, 2008. I was at work when word came down as to who it would be: Sarah Palin. I had never heard of her before (oh the good old days), so I got on The Google and checked her out. Within 20 minutes I was convinced she was an unqualified know nothing. All hat and no cattle, if you will.

But it was also a good day because that was the first day I read this blog and I have been one of the regulars ever since. I initially commented as CPT, but now I use my real name.

My question has always been why the McCain campaign choose Sarah seemingly at the last minute with little vetting. McCain had wrapped up the nomination relatively early and had all the time in the world to vet the VP pick. Was it because he was stubbornly holding out for Lieberman, who as we all know, was really John McCain's choice for VP. Of course, he was told that Lieberman would not fly with the right and many on the right were threatening to boycott the convention if Lieberman was chosen. It's as if McCain didn't anticipate the need for a Plan B candidate and start the vetting of those people early through the months of April, May, June, July and August. There really was plenty of time to find out that Sarah did not know anything.

My impression at the time was that McCain was forced into the Palin choice. There was a video of him coming out of the meeting where (the speculation was that) he had caved. You could almost see the smoke coming out of his ears.

I was for Obama from the start, supported by the points anon 5:37, below, makes: abysmal record academically, as a pilot; prob lied about key points re the POW thing. But I was heartened (thinking he might have a shred of decency) when he refuted the woman in the video above, and as he seemed to be holding out for Liberman.

It seemed clear to me a little later that, if elected, McCain would be offed: die pretty soon from "natural causes." And the far right VIPs who forced Palin onto the ticket would have this puppet president they thought they would be able to control.

Subsequent GOP behavior, since 2008, has only confirmed my take on this.

John McCain secretly rejoices every day that he did not win the Presidency with $arah Dumbass Palin as his VP!!!!

He would have been constantly dealing with her entitled brood of grifters in the White House, showing up in the news being their typical hillbilly violent selves, and embarassing the shite out him every day.

McCain and his advisors would have had to come up with a way to get rid of her, as she is one of the most obviously deranged sociopaths to ever come close to high office in the USA.

I think that it was a combination of pressure from the Religious Right and the power of Bill Kristol's neo-cons. They had made a cruise up to Alaska and seemed to love what they saw in Palin. She was attractive and dumb enough to be manipulated by them, just like they did with Bush. Sarah had been "running" for VP for a long time, taking on the role of Trig's mother to appeal to the Right to Life crowd. She had really been promoting herself, which is the one thing that Palin is good at. She isn't smart. She can't learn. But she has an instinct for appealing to a kind of mass mentality. It doesn't last long. She manipulated the Alaska polls to make it look as if she had a high favorable rating.

"I admire Senator Obama; I will respect him" stated John McCain. Yeah, that lasted how long? I recall Sarah stating that she, also, would respect him should he win. That lasted a nanosecond. These two have divided this nation and it is sickening. SARAHPAC is a hate group. She uses her posts to tout herself while making sure that anyone who doesn't worship at her ugly feet is 'not one of us.' I am surprised there has not yet been a shot fired at our President by the supporters of these two traitors. No wonder Cruz wants to constantly shut down government. The security forces must be working overtime to counter all the threats and crazies with bigger and bigger guns. Cut the funding, and someone will work under the radar. Be safe, Mr. President and family. Most of America respects and admires you. Most of us are intelligent enough to despise McCAin, Palin and the far right, but we would never call for their murders.

You will see that the number of Hate groups had risen to 939 in 2013. If I remember correctly, it was half that many prior to the election of President Obama. It is all rather frightening how close to the surface the demons on this nation have been hiding and how easy it was to unleash their hatred.

I cannot imagine the pressure and stress of being a member of the Secret Service during the past 6 years, knowing how the hate stirred up by McCain and Palin and those members of the GOP who have vilified our President could end in violence. Not only does the life of our first African-American President and his family rest in their hands, but a historical leap forward in our national politics could turn to tragedy should they fail in their responsibilities. From day one I could read Sarah Palin as well as Dubya / Cheney when they came on the scene. Didn't like them from the get-go. Didn't like that Sarah used her "looks" to get what she wanted. I was then amused by the fact that she was so ignorant and clueless. Now I am so tired of her hateful and divisive rhetoric, her hypocrisy, her arrogance. She is the dangerous one…a wolf in sheep's clothing. Even after all her gaffs and stupidity, she appeals to the basest of her base for she and McCain brought out the worst in people. the seething undercurrent of rage and fear in people. Her flame must be snuffed. She is again using her daughter Bristol (why not Willow?) to deflect from her family's underhandedness. Proud of Bristol? For what? Being a straight shooter? Sarah will FOREVER try to excuse & cover-up, re-do & retaliate, re-vision & re-write her own shame, guilt and embarrassing mistakes because none of it is her fault. It's always someone else's fault and that's why she went after teen Levi so viciously and publicly even so far as to getting his mother arrested for selling a couple of pills.

Willow - well she had to go to hair school because she's the only one who could be trusted as a hair dresser to keep Sarah's secret closet full of wigs and weaves.

The saddest thing to have been watching all these years is how Todd & Sarah have raised their children to take no personal responsibility for themselves but to always blame someone else. And they will get in trouble with this sooner or later in life. Sad for them.

You knew Bill Maher wouldn’t miss the opportunity to mock the recent Sarah Palin family snowmobile party brawl and, on Friday evening’s Real Time, he delivered.

Now that the news is confirmed that her family did, indeed, participate in a “drunken brawl” last week, Maher said, “Palin must admit that President Obama’s mom jeans aren’t half as embarrassing as her mom genes.”

The former Alaskan governor has often invoked the president’s infamous “mom jeans” when criticizing his lack of action on issues like thwarting Russian aggression or taking on terrorism abroad. Maher’s “gene” pun obviously refers to the fact that Palin’s daughters were allegedly at the center of the brawl, with one source claiming she threw a “strong right hook” at one unidentified male.

Think about what Natalie Maines went through for saying one sentence at one concert in another country- "just so you know, we're ashamed the president is from Texas". They lost tens of millions in royalties, refunds, stores sending their CDs back to Sony...it went on for a long, long time.

Can you imagine if Natalie Maines had said "just so you know, we are ashamed president bush is from Texas...he's limp and impotent and has no cojones and he should be impeached..."

Many republican senators and reps at the time said Natalie should be charged with treason JUST for saying the one thing! Yet I do not hear anyone saying Palin is being treasonous which in my humble opinion, she is.

Sarah joined forces with the Tea Party, who were as mean-mouthed as she was. Four years later, the Republicans did not invite Sarah to their 2012 convention. Second, while the tea party seems to be waning, it isn't waning in reality. All those same voters are still out there, they are all just as deluded, angry, bigoted, and misinformed as ever, and now they appear to be morphing into the 'libertarian' party. But in essence, it will comprise the same group of thugs. And the GOP will somehow manage to be a part of it –never being willing to completely disown the spawn that they themselves helped create.

McCain saw little of Palin during the short campaign when she was onboard, and to give him credit, he nixed the idea of focusing on that pastor that she had been insisting on. I think he may not have been aware, in real time, of how nasty and how racist and horrible the crowds attending her rallies were, with no tamping down of the hate from the stage. When prominent black civil rights legislators came out against her rallies, I think it shook McCain to the core, but it was too late.

His willingness to win at any cost shows that his priority was always his own career, not the successful future of our country.

McCain has continued to bad mouth President Obama throughout the years. He comes across as a sore loser. Plus, he knows that folks will always connect him to Palin! She was nothing more than a joke that he brought on the national stage showing her racism against then candidate Barack Obama.

I think part of the problem is--the LAST time he ran--ROVE bullied him and did whatever it took to win at all costs--and Bush W won...so McCain probably figured, next time around, he had to do whatever it took and that you had to play dirty and do things that were not necessarily right. Luckily he lost.

That tactic of spewing her smear campaign steeped in polarizing extremes to position her as a loving patriot versus a Muslim Arab terrorist bent on destroying America invoking images of 9/11 Al Qeada was horrifying. People who manipulate others destructively in stilling fear, terror that has no truth in reality gain greater control over people.

Palin has no conscience about lying for her personal gain, power nor remorse she terrorizes people with her lies. It is an evil way to win claiming a fictional persona while spewing smears and opposite fiction about your competition. Her lies recruit people via manipulation to serve her conned she is pure and godly.

I still believe to this day that McCain has ordered Palin family medical & other records SEALED because as soon as he realized what a mistake Sarah was he HAD to protect this entire dimbulb backwoods family to protect himself from even deeper embarrassment.

At some point McCain's camp told Todd & Sarah they would be protected on a federal level. Add to that the fact that the shadow governor Todd was busy creating "insurance" by appointing their high school friends to ethics & high positions in government as well as plenty of blackmail material against the police (& secret service) through his little massage parlor prostitution ring.

This is exactly why Sarah will never sit down and shut up. She & Todd both know there won't be any consequences. I just hope that I live long enough to Palins pay for the damage they have done to our country.

Do you think that will occur when John McCain is dead or when Sean Parnell is no longer gov of Alaska? He's had a history of protecting her too! Example: He won't allow documents/records be released from the State of Alaska on any of the Palins when they are by law suppose to provide them when requested by Alaskans!

Parnell is up for reelection in Alaska - is know as "Captain Zero" (name given to him by our Representative in Congress, Don Young! It's so appropriate as the guy is awkward in public and has zero personality!

I hope Alaskans are paying attention and do not 'reelected' Parnell!!! Oh, forgot to mention to those that might not know - Parnell is Republican and is in bed w/the oil companies (having been a former employee of Conoco!).

  21. My first awareness of Palin was when she stepped on to the stage at the convention. I was impressed. Attractive, well-groomed, five children but an active political career, nice family, governor of a state. I assumed a highly intelligent person with a strong background in politics and business, and a solid education and degree in something like poli sci or business. Wow. Why hadn't I managed to accomplish as much?

Then she opened her mouth. Her sneering, gleeful, contempt for then Senator Obama. Her sneering, insulting contempt for a person who actively worked to better his community. Her joy in diminishing others and encouraging others to do likewise. Her arrogance.

To this day, I have not been able to figure that out. Surely the republicans with their constant bleating about small government would be in favor of communities trying to improve themselves instead of asking for help? She reveled, not in building up her ticket and party, but in putting down others.

    I was horrified.

I couldn't watch the convention that night, but I listened. I could not believe the snark, sneery speech she so enthusiastically gave. The next day I watched a rerun, and I just couldn't believe that woman actually thought she was qualified to call Senator Obama, with 10 years of legislative history, several years teaching constitutional law, several years employed as an attorney in a firm, recipient of honors from Harvard Law School, advance degrees from Columbia and Harvard.....a community organizer. The crowd loved it, and she got her first impetus as a polarizing figure, how (and lucrative) it was to make fun of others, and she never looked back.

      Delete
    2. I'm with you. As a black woman in academia, I have had to work my ass off to prove myself over lesser qualified white men. When I heard there was a woman on the GOP ticket, I was thrilled. I was and always will be a "yellerdog democrat" as my granddad and mother used to say, rest their souls- but I was still happy to see a woman get top billing in the party of old white guys.

      Then...this:
"I GUESS you could say being a governor is kind of like being a community organizer...except, you know, I had actual WORK..."

Especially now, when we know she put in those grueling 2.5 hour work days while governor...it's just offensive.

But as soon as I heard her speak back then, I knew she was a puppet. Just like GWB- the right wanted to get her in office so they could say "sign here" at will.

And then in the days after- when she proved that she wasn't just crude and cruel, but impossibly stupid. I think the Couric interview had most of us in disbelief as we watched- how could someone on a national ticket be THIS dumb?

      I was horrified, too.

    3. Anonymous7:32 AM

I agree with the comments, but there was an additional reaction that I had when I heard Sarah Palin's convention speech. She was the mean girl from high school, mocking those who were smarter than she was. Community organizer was meant to sound like an insult. Those skills in registering African Americans to vote were the skills that turned out such a big vote for Obama. They knew from watching the two previous elections that they had to win big so that victory would not hinge on one state. Christ was a community organizer.

About that mean girl from high school. I ran into one of those mean girls from my high school a few years ago and I could finally see her for what she was. She was still very pretty, but she was as dumb as a rock. So were her mean-girl pals. They attacked others first to avoid being attacked.

Nyah, as a white woman in the work world, ditto. But I was slower on the uptake. I thought that first speech MUST have been hiding a lot of intelligence. Must have. I was for Obama way earlier, for him vs Hillary. But still I was hopeful that a woman as VP might be a good sign. So I started following Palin.

I even thought the Couric answer might have been hiding the fact that she reads right-wing rags obssessively. But now I realize she doesn't read.

Anyway. Can't wait for whatever Mr G has up his sleeve.

      I was as well.

However, I'm just not sure which horrified me more - the hate and nastiness coming out of her mouth at the convention OR the fact that so many people thought it was something to be admired.

What should have been a campaign that made us proud to have an African-American candidate for President and a woman candidate for VP turned into something shameful and frightening.

7:10 While quitter governor at that! (She only made it to mid-term, if that!) She and Todd were co-governors because he knew she was not able to do the job! He actually picked members of her administration, sat in on meetings, had his own desk, etc. He protected her - read the books that were published about her - all is verified w/facts!

Todd would actually call a member of her Administration when she was going in to work to relate her mood of the day!

I can hardly wait for more stuff to come out about her! She was proven to be 'unethical' by the Alaska Legislature although she denied it when on the campaign trail w/McCain! Lied right to the reporters who didn't research her responses back then!

Couldn't agree more with never: the minute she opened her mouth, she displayed fully to me who she really was: the most mean-spirited female public that I can ever recall in history. She is truly a modern-day Jezebel. And the thought that the GOP was trying to package and PROMOTE this mean-spiritedness prompted in me a feeling of deep dread. How could this happen in America, I wondered. She has truly opened a Pandora's box of ugly in our culture, from which we may never recover. Dumb is now glorified (and being taken institutional: witness the school textbook re-writings); meanness is now at cult levels (witness daily/nightly Fox News smears and the entire lying right-wing propaganda machine); being different, or the 'other' is now something to fear, rather than to celebrate as part of our melting pot history (ditto); violence has become glorified (Palin played a huge role in this development); and perhaps worst of all, phony and mean-spirited christianity is now far more powerful than real Christianity in America. Palin has played a role in all of these developments, and all of them have worked and will work greatly to America's detriment as a society. Ironically, the woman who claims to believe in American exeptionalism has, perhaps more than any other person, dragged America so low into the gutter that America is exceptional no longer.

  22. Was just reading an article at PoliticusUSA and ran across a perfect word for scarah. It's "nithing" and a definition can be found at the Urban Dictionary.

    Nithing
A word from Norse lore referring to an exceptionally vile, despicable person - a person completely without honour. Examples include murderers and oathbreakers. NOTE: "Nithing" is NOT a misspelling of "nothing." It's a totally different word. It's more likely to be used by Heathens (neoPagan followers of the Norse Gods and Goddesses) than by other groups, but it has been seen elsewhere.
I don't know why those nithings expect anyone to fall for their lies anymore, we all know they couldn't tell the truth if their lives depended on it.

Yes, we bloggers discussed that possibility early on, in the Audrey days, until they banned that topic from the blog. I'm sure there are several of us who still have lots to say on that topic.

Even with a hideous revelation like that, Track could well be better off by telling all and getting the money. Vs keeping the lid on and living under the thumb of Palin, wondering when/if/whether it will all come out and he would get nothing.

Who better to advise him of his legal options than someone like Barnett? At least talking to Barnett would give him so much good info re options. The lawyer/client relationship is about as secure as it gets these days.

At a minimum, he would get a free trip to Washington D.C. out of it. And a sense that HE can be in charge of his future, no matter what the mistakes of the past.

I should add that advice and representation from Barnett would be legit and of the highest quality (based on Barnett's long reputation), unlike the representation Levi got from that fat black man, which was such a disaster for Levi.

Actually, Levi: you might want to call Barnett too. Only do it before anyone else does. I don't think Barnett would take on more than one client re this mess at a time, for conflict of interest reasons.

And I am guessing that his professional relationship with Sarah Palin is over. If it is not, who better to refer Track or Levi to a truly capable other big-time lawyer?

See how vulnerable Track is? If someone else in the family goes first, he would get nothing except the blame, as he stands by and watches the tell-all person get all the money.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous4:01 PM

If Track is the bioDad, seems like he has little to lose by doing a tell-all book. Probably everyone in his circle -- his immediate and future friends -- already know, and this reality will follow him his entire life unless he changes his identity and moves away. And how better to finance that -- a new start -- than with a few million stashed away.

Esp if he is guilty as charged, coming clean (with proof) would liberate him from the past (as much as he can be), give him the giant nest egg to restart his life, put an end to the horrible control he is under so long as the secret can be revealed by anyone else.

If true, no wonder he has anger issues. Incest is a pretty big reality in Alaska. There ARE ways to heal oneself as much as is possible. Most people don't get the chance at a big pile of cash as part of that process, but Track would, if he plays it right -- i.e., if he plays it straight with responsible, ethical, well-informed, well-educated professionals.

Gee, in a perfect world, he could use some of that money to establish a trust-fund income for Trig, for life.

Not that this would seem to be factor in that family, but by revealing all, he would also be doing the right thing, at a number of levels, all of them important: personal, familial, national, financial, spiritual.

Good luck on the #3 goal. If it were me I would request the invoices for the Hockey Rink in Wasilla under the Freedom of Information Act. Specifically, I would ask for the invoices from Spenard Builders. Count the windows paid for by the City of Wasilla and then count the windows at the rink. We all know the excess windows are close by at a certain house on a dead lake. Same with glass railings or plexi-glass railing, whatever they are - Sarah's house has the exact same railings. Count the number purchased and the number the rink has and then you will see where the extra railings went. I hear the tiles, flooring and a host of other materials were also provided by Spenard.

Am I hitting a nerve Sarah? I hope so because your time is growing short girlfriend. You lost your good looks and a lot of the power you once had to keep people quiet. Then when they ask the demographic questions they are really confused that I am white, with an advanced degree and our household income is fairly high.
    Good times.

I am an experienced pollster, and we are not as stupid as you think. You think you are cute? We can spot a phony a mile away.

The women who was doing the poll was barely able to read the questions. I don't think she spotted anything. Maybe her panty shield lol.
If I am in the repubs margin of error bin, good! The bias in the questions is comical.

Wretched, wretched woman. How long must this nation endure her poison? I remember well how she encouraged violence and has continued to encourage violence against the president. Truly an evil person that masquerades as a "good" one. How has one woman been allowed to do this for so very long? What is wrong with this country that allows this vileness to continue? What will finally end her reign of terror?

My daughter and I talked last night about the possible evidence she and Todd may have against high ranking officials. Obviously, they have video, DVD's or some type of photos of Secret Service, Politicians, who knows? As we have all seen, our country is starting to have a less puritanical stance on sexual matters. In short, no one is going to care. So somebody got a BJ at a "massage" parlor up in Alaska. WHO CARES? The Appalachian Trail idiot is still in public office. If those folks who protect the Palin's would confess and apologize, that would leave them with no leverage. We would be rid of them and in reality, 2008 to 2014 isn't that long. They did themselves in and it just took six years.

At the top of your list of high ranking officials who have arranged teflon gloves for the insipid one has to be none other than McCain. Close second, the Kochs. Supporting her was a cinch. They've frequently used snarling guard dogs at their many 'facilities' around the world. She was cheaper and required less training.

Don't forget Rupert Murdoch, who owns the publishing company that gave SP the $7M book advance for her ghostwritten book, as an obvious payback for campaign services rendered. Probably knowing in advance that they would have to buy the copies back themselves, at first to get it up high in the NYT best-seller lists, and later to minimize the remaindering of it. All tax-deductible of course. So I guess you and I paid for part of it too.

I haven't read the comments, but that woman McCain called on who called President Obama "an Arab" was, in my opinion, a plant. This was going on for months, Sarah was using the raw meat terms and looking the other way when the crowd used them, and no one, not Nicholle Wallass, Schmidt, nor McCain himself tried to put a stop to it, so they're guilty for not acting sooner. Men and Women of color who held high office were ridiculed and spat upon, and McCain kept ignoring it and Sarah kept the crazy parade tittillated.
But President Obama carried on with his head held high, never sang "bomb iran" nor quit any obligation nor job that came his way.

I have a feeling Karma is coming to McCain, right after it rattles Palin and her family. What used to work, isn't helping at all, and she has no control whatsoever nor any chance of getting past this latest incident.
