Courtesy of Channel 5 News:
Late Sunday night, Murfreeboro police came to a downtown apartment complex after receiving a report of a shot fired.
They arrived to find a woman inside with a 9mm handgun.
Police believe she pulled it out during a heated argument with her boyfriend -- the father of her daughter.
"The two were involved in a verbal and then physical confrontation with the use of deadly force," said Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Dept.
Police said the woman fired a single round at her boyfriend and in a bizarre twist the same bullet hit both the child and her father.
The police incident report showed the bullet hit the boyfriend in the groin then traveled through him and struck their one-year-old child, who was sitting several yards away, in the rear-end.
I have said it before but it bears repeating.
THIS is how the majority of shootings happen in this country.
It is NOT in defense of property or for self protection.
It is during an altercation, often between people in a relationship, that suddenly turns deadly simply because of the presence of a handgun.
This shooting of a one year old comes to you courtesy of the NRA, the misreading of the 2nd Amendment, and the lax gun laws in this country.
P.S. By the way there is an attempt in the article to suggest that this might have been a case of self defense. However in my experience when a woman shoots her man in the groin, she is upset with him for something else entirely.
Or. she has really bad aim, or he grabs her hand in a failed attempt to deflect. Careful, Gryphen.

ReplyDeleteHaha, Gryphen, the way you worded this makes it sound as if You've been shot in the groin! I hope you're not talking about personal experience!
Spoken from personal experience (in a high-pitched, monotone, unmanly manner):
DeleteWhenever one of my bitches shoots me in the dick, I know I have really done something stupid again. Juicy might be crazy and full of hate, but a can of creamed corn is easier to dodge than a 9mm bullet.

I cannot believe they have not arrested the woman. She should be arrested. She could have not only killed the man, but she could also have killed the child. If the man had been the shooter, he would have immediately been arrested.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick this double standard of justice for males and females in this nation. And I am a woman, for the record.
Oh bull. The men walk away from these 'accidental shootings' all the time. The women end up in prison.
DeleteShe came a lot closer to killing the man and the infant than Marissa Alexander, the Florida woman whose warning shot didn't hit anybody.

Hmm, it's almost as if buying a gun doesn't auto-magically endow you with the superb aim under stress that the NRA so artfully promotes.
ReplyDeleteThe baby is going to need a lot of luck to make it adulthood reasonably intact.
2nd Amendment solutions, right $arah?
ReplyDeleteIn related news .... today President Obama has decided to arm the more moderate Palin family members.
ReplyDeleteI heard different I heard he was arming Anchorage so they could protect themselves from a small faction of a terrorist sect based outside of Wasilla .

Back in the 80's when I was in the Army, one of my fellow soldiers was cheating on his wife. She asked the use his car but he said he needed it. While driving with her sister later that morning she sees his car being driven by another woman. She pulls out a 38 and shoots at the mistress who jumps out of the car and runs. The wife jumps in the car, drives to our motor pool and confronts the husband. When he steps towards her, out comes the 38 and boom right into his little soldier. So I can see where Gryphen thinks this might not be a case of self defense.

ReplyDeleteNow that Thompson is unexpectedly out of work, he’s also set up a GoFundMe.com account for prospective job opportunities and to raise money for attorneys fees, bills – and security cameras!
“That’s how scared I am,” he added. “Some people out there are really big fans of the Palins. I regret that I was naïve in not knowing what was going to happen. But I don’t regret ever telling the truth!”
Why are people sending him money? So he does not have to work?
ReplyDeleteAnon. 6:00 am, I think you're confusing him with Sarah.
ReplyDeletePeople are sending him money so that he can support himself and his wife while he looks for work (which may be hard to find in Palin-land), to thank and reward him for his bravery and honesty, to stick it to the twits who fired him, to send a message to the Palins, and to encourage others to speak out.
ReplyDeleteThen again, I'm sure you knew that.
Good thing none of the Palins had guns on them at the brawl, who knows what might have happened, fueled by alcohol rage.
ReplyDeleteAnd there still would be no charges filed.

ReplyDeleteWhy do you care if people are stepping up to help out a family in need? If you don't understand the concept of lending a helping hand no explanation any of us give can help you with that. It's a basic human instinct that most people are born with, to reach out to help those they know of in distress. You see, mortgages still have to be paid, util paid, food needs to be purchased and yes, after Mr Thompson lost his job because of one nasty family I do believe that security cameras are not only a necessity, but could save his families life.
Now, if you are talking about those that scam money for a living, like ex politicians or TV preachers, then I do agree, I don't understand the concept of working to support a lazy asshole.
but if cops shoot at a criminal and innocent people get shot, it's okay
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's locked down in college going on the third day now. A survivalist trained gun nut walked into a State Trooper's office, killed one officer and injured another. This is in Carbon County, PA. She's a little stirred, but not shaken, but pissed off beyond belief that she can't get to work to make a few bucks, nor go to classes. I got an alert on my smart phone, then they sent more information about security being beefed up, but this guy's really scary because he knows how to work the system, hide in plain sight and has excellent aim.
ReplyDeleteThe people involved in the argument and shooting in this story, accomplished exactly what by having a gun in the house? Absolutely nothing but shoot an innocent child in the butt after arguing in front of her for who knows how long? The gun didn't resolve any conflict, it wounded people and no one "won" their side of the argument. Arrest them both and put the child with safe relatives.
