Phil Robertson claims that diseases, such as AIDS, are God's punishment for sin. Holy crap is it 1981 again?

Courtesy of Buzzfeed:

While promoting his new book unPHILtered: The Way I See It, Robertson spoke at length about what he called the “physiological downside to immorality” in an interview with Family Research Council president Tony Perkins’ radio program Washington Watch last week.

“I mean, a great question to ask is ‘Why is it that all of these just—is this coincidental that viewing all of the immoral conduct that America now is participating in, I’ve asked a lot of people, Do you think it’s a coincidence that all of these debilitating — and literally, it can cause death — diseases follow that kind of conduct?” Robertson said.

“God says, ‘One woman, one man,’ and everybody says, ‘Oh, that’s old hat, that’s that old Bible stuff’ and I’m thinking well, let’s see now. A clean guy, a disease-free guy, and a disease-free woman, they marry and they keep their sex between the two of ‘em, uh, they’re not gonna get chlamydia and gonorrhea and syphilis and AIDS. It’s, it’s safe.”

Robertson concluded that such diseases from such behaviors are punishment from God.

“Now to me either it’s the wildest coincidence ever that horrible diseases follow immoral conduct,” he said, “or it’s God saying, ‘There’s a penalty for that kind of conduct.’ I’m leanin’ toward there’s a penalty toward it.”

“So, you read in the Bible, you say well let’s see, ‘Well, it’s one man, one woman,’” he said. “Any logical person would say, what the guy is sayin’ is, that’d be me, is that if you wanna be safe from a lot of debilitating diseases, that’s the route to go. And it agrees with what God says so it’s just one argument after another, Tony, but what can I say all you can do is just show ‘em that and say, ‘Man, we ought to think about this Jesus stuff.’”

You know it occurs to me that if a man and another man, or a woman and another woman,  were to enter into an exclusive relationship that they too would be safe from the diseases that Robertson listed above.

So it seems that the problem is NOT that certain behaviors are deemed sinful in the minds of the narrow minded, and therefore punishable by God.  But instead that those engaging in careless promiscuity, or not practicing safe sex, might infect a partner with a sexually transmitted disease, whether gay or straight.

As for other diseases like cancer, or heart disease, or even Ebola, those seem to care little how moral or immoral a person might be.

And the reason for that is because sickness and death are both a biological inevitability that only the ridiculously superstitious would consider the result of human immorality.

Phil Robertson is an imbecile who insists upon seeing the world through a prism which identifies everything in terms of good vs evil.

And anybody who buys his book looking for wisdom is barking up the wrong fake hillbilly.

I'd like Mr. Bible-Scholar Robertson to explain where exactly the Bible demands one man-one woman sexual relationships, besides the story of Adam and Eve who, at the beginning (so the story goes) had no other possible human sex partners.

considering all the begatting going on between sisters, brothers, moms and dads why are christians against incest? I mean if Adam and Eve were the only two here then clearly either Adam's son sexed up and impregnated his mom or his sister. Can't have it both ways you dominionists And before you chime in with Noah took care of that incest stuff it's the same argument. if God killed ever creature but those on the ark then the breeding stock for men and women came from another round of incest.

"The question of polygamy is an interesting one in that most people today view polygamy as immoral while the Bible nowhere explicitly condemns it. The first instance of polygamy/bigamy in the Bible was that of Lamech in Genesis 4:19: “Lamech married two women.” Several prominent men in the Old Testament were polygamists. Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and others all had multiple wives. In 2 Samuel 12:8, God, speaking through the prophet Nathan, said that if David’s wives and concubines were not enough, He would have given David even more. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines (essentially wives of a lower status), according to 1 Kings 11:3."

Bible thumping neanderthals usually have no real insight or knowledge of the subject of which they opine. Using this idiot as any sort of authority on what "God" thinks about anything is about as useful as asking my newt's opinion of the same subject, and my newt would undoubtedly make more sense.

Off tropic a tad - there is a Parkinson relative (female) on "DWTS" this season. Wonder if the Palins have told the Parkinson family how to flood DWTS w/their votes as they did w/Bristol when she was on the show?

Only huge difference is the fact that this Parkinson girl can dance where Bristol Palin could NOT!

Have you noticed how the same dancer (Ballas) got both of them as partners? Interesting! He's probably the only one that WOULD agree to it! Wish he'd write a book when he retires from dancing about his experiences w/the Palin clan! Bet it wasn't pleasant!

Conservatives Are Losing Their Sh*t Over The New Miss America

Kira Kazantsev has been crowned Miss America and radical right wing nut jobs across the nation are fuming!

23 year-old Kazantsev is an independent, worldly, intelligent woman from liberal New York City. She speaks three languages and plans to go to law school after her pageant days are over. That must be strike one.

Her pageant platform was “Love Shouldn’t Hurt: Protecting Women Against Domestic Violence.” Since Fox has been feeding conservatives a regular diet of “blame the victim” rhetoric throughout the Ray Rice domestic abuse case, they may not be sympathetic to her cause. That could be strike two.

However, the third strike is an absolute deal-breaker for America’s radical right. According to Kazantsev’s recently removed LinkedIn profile, she held a three month internship as an “Abortion Peddler” at Planned Parenthood!

This last bit of information has sent social media and the conservative blogosphere into a tizzy.

Good Guy With Gun Tries To Kill Neighbor’s Barking Dog, Shoots Wrong One

A man described as a “prominent” Washington state banker was so enraged by his neighbor’s dog’s barking that he grabbed his rifle, walked across the street and shot it death in front of the family. Over the terrified screams of the family, a dog could still be heard barking in the distance. He shot the wrong dog.

According to the dog’s owner, Loyce Andrews, their neighbor, 55-year-old David William Latham, didn’t say a single word before walking up to the house with his rifle. The dog went up to Latham because it didn’t recognize the man, and the man shot it once in the chest. Then he turned around and walked back to his house.

The Bellingham Herald reports that Andrew’s husband, Cary Chunyk, confronted Latham shouting, “You just shot my dog!” Latham then turned and allegedly pointed the rifle at Chunyk before going inside his home.

Meanwhile, the dog named Molly fought for her life for over 30 minutes before finally succumbing to the injury.

“I held her the whole time she was dying; she was on the grass. She was screaming and panting,” Andrews told KIRO. “It’s a horrible, horrible way to do die. You don’t do that. I don’t care whose dog it is, you don’t do that,” Andrews said. “It’s senseless, it’s ridiculous, it’s incomprehensible.”

Police agreed. Latham was charged with animal cruelty, reckless endangerment and brandishing a firearm. According to KIRO, the judge seemed to come to Latham’s defense by pointing out that Latham “doesn’t have a violent criminal history” — as if shooting a dog to death in front of its family were excusable because it hasn’t happened before.

It seems to me that Latham now has a "violent criminal record" and has shown evidence of grave anger issues as well. He certainly should NOT be allowed to walk around his neighborhood brandishing a loaded rifle. The judge in question must be a golf course buddy.

10:27 Such a sad recap of 'humanity' in action as proudly exhibited by those of the chosen right-wing extremist belief set. Every one of those evil scenarios would be endorsed and praised by the louts who spend their days trying to shove their depraved uncaring ideas and beliefs on those of us they choose to defame simply because we are caring, sane, liberal and moderate, educated, sensitive human beings.

There is not one thing on your list that would not be supported and applauded by the likes of the DyNasty Duck bunch, the Palins, Cruz senior and junior, LimpBalls, Beck and several others. They are the disgusting among us yet spend their days trying to project their evil ways onto those of us who would never be a part of any of the above.

In my many years on this planet I could never imagine such a sick despicable bunch could come to such a level of 'prominence' or visibility in a civilized society. There was a time when they might have been censured, criticized and in many cases, arrested and punished. But not now, they have infected society with a disease that appears to have no cure and sadly they do it in the name of their version of 'religion'.

  22. Actually Duckfuck, God does not punish. His day of reckoning will come but, he is not a hateful God, where he punishes people everyday. Maybe your god is an asshole, but, my God isn't.
Say you told your kids that you would give them a week to clean their rooms, and they would be punished if their rooms were still messy at the end of the week. As a loving, and just parent, do you punish them everyday that their rooms are messy? No. You said that you would give them a week, and they have that week to decide whether they want to clean their room, or suffer the consequences. Only an evil, unloving parent, would go back on his word. Apparently Duckfuck, you worship an evil god.

I don't know how many IM-ers visited the Television Without Pity website when it was active, but PreviouslyTV has taken over the reigns and is a good, old-fashioned TV snarkfest. Anyhoo, here's an interesting bit from a commenter there re: Sadie Robertson (boldface added by me):

"I do judge her based on her family, unfortunately. I know that's not fair, but what can I say? I'm human. I despise her family, especially the grandfather, and as has been mentioned, she has supported his truly ignorant and incredibly horrific statements. She herself is also capitalizing big-time on the Robertson name. She's got her own line of clothing, and she wrote a book laughably called something like "How the Duck Commander's Daughter Keeps It Real." Seriously? There's nothing "real" about that family. They were as yuppy as it gets until granddad got approached about a tv show, and then all of a sudden they went all hillbilly with the ugly beards and the stupid bandanas. So, yeah, something about her screams "spoiled entitled princess" to me. I'm looking forward to the day she is gone, and I just hope it doesn't take as long to get rid of her as it did to get rid of Bristol. I would truly love it if she were the first to go tonight - if people took a stand and said, 'no, we're not giving your homophobic family any more attention.' But I'm not counting on that happening."

They were then lightly slapped on the wrist for bringing up the family and not focusing on DWTS. Seems quite a few there feel the same way.

I have a brother-in-law who goes to mass every day, fasts for several days out of every week, prays constantly, and has gone on trips to Lourdes, etc. He has been plagued with insomnia, headaches, skin cancer, etc. My husband is agnostic/atheist, and healthy as a horse! My daughter is a competitive athlete, and an atheist, and enjoys extreme good health. Our atheistic family has it so much better than many Christians that we know. I have known devout Christians whose small children have suffered from terrible diseases or died from accidents. In a world of sexually transmitted diseases, of course it's healthier to limit your partners. In a world with Hepatitis, it's also prudent to avoid serious injury so as not to require blood transfusion. And in a world with Bird Flu, it's prudent to wash your hands after going out in public. All science based stuff! This theory that God is punishing sinful people with disease is so clearly false that it is laughable. You must have the logic of a rock to believe it.

I'd like to see a comparison of how healthy atheist scientists are compared to devout Christians. Now that might actually prove something!
