President Obama's administration has presided over the best private sector job growth in American history. I know, right?

Courtesy of Forbes:

Bob Deitrick – “President Reagan has long been considered the best modern economic President. So we compared his performance dealing with the oil-induced recession of the 1980s with that of President Obama and his performance during this ‘Great Recession.’

As this unemployment chart shows, President Obama’s job creation kept unemployment from peaking at as high a level as President Reagan, and promoted people into the workforce faster than President Reagan.

President Obama has achieved a 6.1% unemployment rate in his 6th year, fully one year faster than President Reagan did. At this point in his presidency, President Reagan was still struggling with 7.1% unemployment, and he did not reach into the mid-low 6% range for another full year. So, despite today’s number, the Obama administration has still done considerably better at job creating and reducing unemployment than did the Reagan administration.

We forecast unemployment will fall to around 5.4% by summer, 2015. A rate President Reagan was unable to achieve during his two terms.”

Damn! That is going to make a lot of conservatives tear their hair out before slipping quietly into the soothing embrace of denial.

Now as interesting as I found this data, and boy did I find it interesting, I was also pretty amazed by this tidbit in the same article.

Labor participation is affected much less by short-term job creation, and much more by long-term demographic trends. As this chart from the BLS shows, as the Baby Boomers entered the workforce and societal acceptance of women working changed, labor participation grew.

Now that ‘Boomers’ are retiring we are seeing the percentage of those seeking employment decline. This has nothing to do with job availability, and everything to do with a highly predictable aging demographic.

What’s now clear is that the Obama administration policies have outperformed the Reagan administration policies for job creation and unemployment reduction. Even though Reagan had the benefit of a growing Boomer class to ignite economic growth, while Obama has been forced to deal with a retiring workforce developing special needs. During the 8 years preceding Obama there was a net reduction in jobs in America. We now are rapidly moving toward higher, sustainable jobs growth.”

In other words that whole "Real" unemployment that Fox News talks about as being people who have "just given up" and are no longer seeking employment, is NOT the result of lazy ass millenials who are discouraged by a lack of jobs and are now sitting on their asses playing X-Box all day and eating Cheetos, it is due to the Baby Boomers retiring and dropping out of the job market permanently.

Even though it's conservative Forbes, Fox won't report on it and Sarah will ignore it. Not that she understands graphs, facts and numbers.

Yeah! You did miss something! What Pat Robertson said the other day to a woman in her 80's - that she should get off her butt and go to work. What he didn't say but clearly implied "Go stand on your feet several hours a day 'cause he in particular wants all your spare change but also, too, 'cause tea party and Xtians deserve what you got". Geez!! What is the matter with you libtards that you don't get this stuff?

It's sooo sad for our country. No matter what he does, it's either not enough or the media is "in his pocket" and it's all a lie.

They do like to blame him for everything, though:

President and Michelle Obama: In an impromptu interview with a reporter in New York City two months ago, Rivers went after both President Obama and First Lady Michelle. When asked whether the U.S. will ever see a gay president, Rivers responded, "We already have it with Obama, so let's just calm down." She then added, "You know Michelle is a tranny … a transgender. We all know."

and 2 months later she is gone
    hmmm ......

Something else to consider is how many of these Baby Boomers leaving the workforce today and retiring are able to do just that after the great recession where their retirement portfolios were decimated and lost trillions in value only to have the recovery brought on by Obama in the past 6 years restore much of their lost value.

The corporations are doing well as is the stock market, but the benefits have not reached the workers. We need to raise the minimum wage and then put a cost of living adjustment (COLA) on it to keep it out of politics. In 1974, Congress finally put an annual COLA on social security benefits. Prior to that, it was up to Congress to make adjustments to what our older folks received. Time to give the younger folks the same courtesy.

As it stands now, all of us are subsidizing the Walmarts and the McDonalds of the world as they pay so little, their workers often qualify for government benefits. True conservatives should be yelling at the top of their lungs for an increase in the minimum wage, but there are no true conservatives; just a bunch of politicos that take their marching orders from the Koch brothers and others.

The article says " “President Reagan has long been considered the best modern economic President."

By which economists? Paul Krugman & most economists would name President Clinton.

Having lived through the Reagan recession/economy & seen the complete lack of concern about humanity he had, I'd put him lower than any modern president except Bush.

Caroll Thompson, there has been no COLA increase in SS for a few years now. It is still up to Congress it seems.

There have been no COLA increase for SS recipients in the past few years. Seems Congress still holds the purse strings and will not release them to anyone other than themselves!

President Obama has done a fine job with the economy, despite what the pundits have said. Today's "Bash President Obama" talking point "Delaying Immigration Reform", and he's getting it from all sides, NOT because they give a damn about the plight of immigrants, because he's busy getting the world straightened up, going after Isis, fixing the middle east, syria, and russia. Not saying the delay is right or moral, by any means, just saying he's busting his butt getting the world involved, with no help from congress. This POTUS doesn't break a promise.
