Happy Halloween!

I thought I would share my favorite Halloween themed music video with you.

The director, John Landis, was also responsible for some of my favorite movies of the seventies and eighties like Animal House, An American Werewolf in London and The Blues Brothers.

And the video holds a very special place in my daughter's heart because it was instrumental in getting her interested in theater and movie making.

We had an old VHS tape of "The Making of Thriller" lying around the house that she found when she was two years old. That damn thing played non-stop for weeks, but the interesting thing is that she was just as fascinated with the behind the scenes makeup, choreography, and special effects, as she was with the actual music video itself.

Since then she has been fascinated with the way movies are made, and is now involved in making them herself.

Now if you will excuse me I think there are some scary creatures at my door.

I wonder what they want?

I still frequently use the Animal House quote: "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son."

"Thriller" was an amazing feat and the acme of Michael Jackson's career. There was simply no way to top that video. Our daughter had a HUGE crush on MJ. If the song was mentioned, she'd run around the house and tell everyone to shut up, We still tease her to this day! This was our 27TH anniversary and my favorite way to spend it is inviting friends, making chile, pulled pork, french fries and caramel apples and giving out candy. The best costume, so far, was this amazing zombie family. Starched cheese cloth over stained old rippped clothes w/battery operated mini lights. One had a bat flying on a leash. Clever stuff!!!

A trick! What kind of tricks do you have for them?

Enjoy your evening and the Trick or Treaters, Gryphen!

To all who vote and stay involved with trying to improve life for all, have a good weekend. Soon enough on Wednesday to determine if we've been tricked or treated.

    LOL

We're all finished with the Hallo-wieners. Now we are stuck with this left-over candy, which I keep trying not to eat.

Wonder if any AK'er were daring enough to trick or treat as the partying Palins.

  8. Oh how I love that video, and the "Making of" video as well. Michael Jackson was a luminous talent and what a loss to not have him any more. I love dance, and I never tire of watching him move. He made so much possible....

Tell your daughter she has a clone sister living in AZ.

My daughter was about 3, and would launch into long explanations of how the "facial appliances" worked. Meanwhile, her best friend Ash-a-lee would scream bloody murder upon hearing the first notes of the music.

Mine grew up to be a theatre rat. She & her sibs appeared as extras in the movie Matewan (John Sayles). She had just turned 5, & spent a chunk of time on set sitting in James Earl Jones' lap peppering him with questions about his role in the original Conan the Barbarian. That's when she wasn't telling Haskell Wexler where he needed to point the camera. She took full credit for him winning the Academy Award for Cinematography for this particular film.

We moved shortly after that, and her talents were mostly confined to local productions. Her one claim to fame is a 10 year stint in a historical drama where she literally grew into one of the lead roles.

She's all grown up now, kids of her own, & still hasn't lost the bug. The smell of the greasepaint & the roar of the crowd...

"Documents obtained by Alaska Dispatch News show that Pierre inserted himself into one of the inquiries into the alleged sexual misconduct of a married recruiter, an incident of which Parnell's office was aware.

The recruiter, a high school classmate of Pierre's from the late 1990s, was also accused of sexual harassment, of mistreating junior enlisted soldiers, of possessing steroids and committing assault. In June 2014, Cindy Sims, a senior staffer and close aide to the governor, received an email detailing the situation with this and dozens of other soldiers.
The document notes that this soldier, whose name has been withheld since no criminal charges were ever filed, was recommended for removal from his full-time position and to be separated from the service with "other than honorable discharge." Nothing came of it, apparently, after Pierre gave input to Katkus and the assistant adjutant general, Brig. Gen. Leon Bridges."

Allegations made beginning on on page 431 and continuing including on pages 447 and 448 memos to The Anchorage Police Department Records Section requesting the access to police reports referenced.
      On Page 431:

From: Mathew B. Tully, Esq. [mailto:mtully@18881law4life.com]
      Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2014 7:23 AM
      To: Nizich, Michael A (GOV)
Subject: Unlawful activity report to the Governor
      Importance: High

Executive Summary: This email puts the Governor's office on notice of allegations of unlawful access by the Alaska National Guard to confidential police rape reports that contain intimate details about civilians with no military affiliation. This secret National Guard program used federal funds to help state official's access
confidential police files that they normally would have been unable to access without a Court order or statutory authority. It has been in place for years and apparently to me with the consent and/or knowledge of Major General Katkus and other senior leaders. This program likely violates the constitutional rights of civilian sex crime victims and other civilians who gave statements in criminal matters who had no clue their confidential police reports/statements were being widely distributed within the National Guard.

Your and the Governor's immediate attention to this matter is requested.

  11. Getting a lot of kids I don't recognize coming to the door.

That's what happens when you live in a nice neighborhood. You get kids from all over the city arriving in cars for a shot at for your candy.

Doesn't bother me though, that's why I always buy several bags.

I hope you had fun seeing all the costumes.

It's great you're also not complaining about kids coming to your door from outside your area. Like I've read online in the past about some other people living other cities (who complain about kids coming to their door from outside of their neighborhood). What grinches. Halloween is for kids and for them getting some candy. You're a good man, Gryphen.

Also, thanks for sharing the Thriller video. I enjoy watching it and sometimes it's difficult to find it on YouTube in one complete video. Thanks again Gryphen.

OT except for the scary theme: Guess who made the cover of Star magazine's latest "Celebrities without their makeup" issue? She's right next to Khloe Kardashian...she must be so proud. (Oh, and they used the REAL Sarah-without-makeup photo, not the staged retake.)

It was time to turn off the porch lights after the Duck Dynasty clan showed up. What happened to Star Wars and Wizard of Oz costumes? hehe
