Egypt has banned a Hollywood film based on the Biblical book of Exodus because of what censors described as "historical inaccuracies".
The head of the censorship board said these included the film's depiction of Jews as having built the Pyramids, and that an earthquake, not a miracle by Moses, caused the Red Sea to part.
According to the book of Exodus, Jewish slaves were led to freedom by Moses after God inflicted a series of plagues on Egypt.
The Pyramids are believed to have been built about 1,000 years before the story of the Exodus.
The Biblical story tells how the Red Sea was parted by a miracle performed by God through Moses, allowing the Jewish people to escape from the pursuing Egyptian army.
So being accused of enslaving the Jewish people, having a god drop toads on the heads of your people, and having many of your forefathers drowned in the Red Sea for trying to murder a religious icon. all of which is completely false, apparently rubs some people the wrong way.
Go figure.
Religions suck. Every last one of them. Sad that people are still hooked on that stuff.
ReplyDeleteI getcha, my whole thing is, religions, I really don't care about any of them, or all of them! Fuck the movie, fuck the book it came from and who cares how it's represented in film because it's just a story, from a book, from a long time ago that no one has been able to ever prove was factually based or accurate historically so really, this movie, Exodus is just as based in realism as is Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. Why anyone would get their panties in a wad over fiction defies me.
DeleteWhen one religion tells another they've got it wrong, are they all wrong based on their beliefs and screw the facts?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could perhaps be a little more clear on your question? I mean, based on the posting by Gryphen, your question has no connection. In this case it is NOT an Egyptian religion telling the Christians and Jews they are wrong, it is the Egyptian state and a little thing called historical fact.
DeleteSo where did you get the basis for your question?
You are truly uneducated about this is one. Seriously, did you even really read why they are rejecting the movie.
ReplyDeleteI hate organized religion but saying the Jewish people ( also a race, not just a religion) were not enslaved and persecuted is pure bullshit. Are you a Holocaust denier too? Or do you only support the Palestinians? Your articles about those poor people, who I empathize with greatly, are inaccurate. Completely.
The bible or any of those books are stories yes, but they are based on some factual events.
The main reason Egypt does not want this movie is because it goes against their religion. They do have a right to their faith you know as do others, whether you agree or not.
I think all religion is BS but you insult those who you don't agree with instead of being respectful. And you are a horrible researcher. The most dangerous people read a little about many topics yet think they are experts.
a) There is absolutely no proof for the enslavement of the Jewish nation nor of the exodus outside of the bible from any of the contemporary texts of the region.
Deleteb) having a half finished pyramid in the background while the jewish people are enslaved, is as historically accurate as having a horde of vikings invade during world war II.
It is clear YOU are the one who is uneducated. Ignorance (and willful ignorance at that) merits no respect. If tomorrow you decide to say that the sky is made of rock and the ground is made of air, I am supposed to respect that?????
DeleteThis has nothing to do with the Holocaust.
DeleteActually Islam has no problem with the story of the Exodus and it is considered just as true by them as it is by Christians.
DeleteAs for the Holocaust I have no problem accepting facts that are supported by evidence, such as the genocide visited upon the Jewish people by Hitler, but rather with stories that are unsupported by the facts, like the one featured in this movie.
@12:50: You display your ignorance by stating that Jews are a "race". They are not. Jews are a subset of the caucasian race, called semites. BTW, the vast majority of those in the Middle East are also semites, thus it makes no sense to call Palestinians, Jordanians, Egyptians, Arabs etc. anti-semitic! You, my pet, are the extraordinarily poor researcher.
DeleteRe: "Jews are a race" -- Race is a cultural, social and political concept.
DeleteIt has no real significance biologically.
There is ONE race - the human race. A fertile female of any "race" can mate with a fertile male of any "race" and produce viable offspring. We are one race. Those who profited from exploitation sought to invent reasons for this oppression, so they invented a distinction called "race" which has no biological explanatory power. There are many ethnic differences between Jews. They are not all Ashkenazi. Some are Sephardic, Mizrahi, and beyond.
I want to know who is stupid enough to release a movie about Jewish biblical drama in a region that dare I say, does not react kindly to anything "Jewish"?
ReplyDeleteYeah, because the bible is SO full of historical accuracies.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the bible Noah's ark was about 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high with 3 decks and held two of every creature in the world (yes and only two mosquitoes got on). Talk about historical accuracy.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a trend. The already loony barbarians are getting even loonier.
ReplyDeleteI know where the "stories" are coming from - religious texts.
ReplyDeleteBut, where, exactly are the "facts" coming from? Where is this information located?
I am anon @ 3:29-- Just to be clear... I am asking those who claim that it is a "fact" that Jews were not enslaved in Egypt-- How do you KNOW this "fact?"
DeleteWhat is your evidence? Where are your sources? Please explain.
Idiot at 7:21 PM. The ancient Egyptians were fantastic record keepers and NO WHERE in their texts does anything having to do with enslaved Jews appear. For a people who were so meticulous as to record grain amounts in their own homes, to not have other "property" accounted for in palace records is unthinkable. As I always say in modern times, no link = lies.
DeleteThe burden of proof for the story of the exodus lies with the people who say it is true. Show other corroborating evidence to support your claim. But none has been found. There is nothing in the Egyptian records, nothing in other records of the region. How could that be that an event of such magnitude is not recorded anywhere?
Delete@ 4:10
DeleteI am 3:29/7:21-- (not sure if my other comment went thru)
The fact that you need to call me an idiot reveals that you are not here for a discussion of ideas.(for you and 6:05)
I NEVER made any claims. I only raised questions. Perhaps I should insult you because you apparently cannot read.
Many people were enslaved in the ancient world in various places. Just because SOME Egyptians kept detailed household accounts that may or may not have accurately recorded what YOU are interested in proves NOTHING. It is a story that you come here to tell in order to oppose another story that you do not like.
It's not just the historical inaccuracies that are isnulting to Egyptians. It is also the fact of the movie whitewashing an entire culture out of the movie. Apaprantly, according to the movie, all the great Egyptian royals were white, while all the thieves and slaves were dark.

Kind of OT, but the word's finally gotten out, President Obama, apparently, doesn't go to church enough for some people's tastes. GWBush went a LOT, cause you're either an evildoer or a saint
ReplyDeletehttp://www.politicususa.com/2014/12/27/no-care-president-obama-church.html
Knock yourselves out, the last one close the lights and lock the doors. President Obama doesn't go to Church Enough LMAO!!!!! Teee Heee!.
This "Exodus" movie is one of the annual capitalistic money grab to shake every last cent from people's pockets. Why is it we only see "religious" movies near the holidays? Where are these people the rest of the year?
W really did not go a lot. He was even called on the carpet for it b some of his religious looney pals.
DeleteWell, if Egypt doesn't want the movie shown there, that's okay with me. I live in Michigan and I have no plans to see the movie either. I just hope that Hollywood doesn't have a hissy fit about it. Frankly, it wasn't a good idea to release it there.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Egyptian government simply doesn't want a repeat of the response to the looney anti-Muslim film that was shown in Cairo just before the Benghazi attack in Libya. People in that part of the world don't like having their history "reinterpreted" by US movies. Remember how the US media, guided by Fox and the GOP, insisted on confusing the two events and then blaming it all on President Obama?
