A 55-year-old woman sued comedian Bill Cosby on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming sexual battery and infliction of emotional distress for allegedly molesting her in a bedroom at the Playboy Mansion when she was 15 years old.
According to the complaint, Judy Huth and a friend, who was 16 at the time, met Cosby at an outdoor film set at Lacy Park in Los Angeles County in 1974 and accepted an invitation to socialize with him at a tennis club the following week. When they got together, the lawsuit alleges, they played billiards and Cosby served them alcoholic beverages.
"Under the terms of Cosby's game, plaintiff was required to consume a beer every time Cosby won a game," the suit alleges. After the two girls consumed "multiple alcoholic beverages," Cosby allegedly told them he had a surprise for them "and led them to another house which turned out to be the Playboy Mansion."
He told the girls they should say they were 19 if they were asked, according to the lawsuit.
While at the mansion, Huth said she needed to use the bathroom. Cosby, who was 37 at the time, allegedly showed her to a bathroom inside a bedroom suite near the mansion's game room.
"When Plaintiff emerged from the bathroom, she found COSBY sitting on the bed," the suit states. "He asked her to sit beside him. He then proceeded to sexually molest her by attempting to put his hand down her pants, and then taking her hand in his hand and performing a sex act on himself without her consent."
It is hard at this point to give Cosby the benefit of any doubt, but we all know that sometimes people smell opportunity and pile on with fake lawsuits when they see the chance of an easy payoff from a famous person under media scrutiny for bad behaviors.
I am certainly not suggesting that this woman falls into that category, I am simply suggesting that from this point forward all new allegations should be scrutinized aggressively.
However it should also be noted that these allegation match those made by well over a dozen women already, and that many of Cosby's accusers were also teenagers at the time of the alleged attack.
At this point I am not even sure it matters how many more women come out of the shadows to point the finger at the former Cliff Huxtable. His reputation is already sullied beyond repair and his legacy is now one of sexual predator instead of perennial father figure.
I was never a big fan. My sister refuses to believe any of it. I think it's a case where there is smoke there is fire. He took advantage of his fame and power to assault women. It's the fact that he was able to get away with it over and over that is sad. Sexual assault is too often brushed under the rug. And you Gryph, must know that it takes a toll on families and communities. We need to speak out against sexual assualt and domestic violence against women. Those in churches, political office and celebrities et. al. think they are beyond scrutiny.
ReplyDeleteBill Cosby's always been creepy, jello or not.
DeleteWhy are all these woman JUST coming out about it?
Is he about to run for something?
He has always been creepy and squirrely and a "untruthful" vibe about him. Why is this news? He's not in jail?
It kind of makes me want to give him a swift kick, well, use your imagination. I feel like I have something in common with Wasilla. This "man" represented my city, where I raised my kids, for years and was held up as a role model to many. Then came the chorus with pedophile priests and Jerry Sandusky and who knows who'll crawl out from under a rock somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI know celebrity has it's rewards, but a fifteen year old, in the Playboy Mansion? Did he cross any state lines with his "escort"? I'm sure there were other couples and singles there, did they not see nor say anything? And if not, why?
Yes, they're "allegations", but he was pretty damn quick trying to get ahead of the story. And what did he gain from this stupidity? Prove her wrong in a court of law and I'll eat crow.
When he intimidated the AP reporter when he thought he was off camera did it for me, especially when he enunciated every syllable of "I know you have in-te-gri-ty so I am as-king you." Wow, imagine how these young girls/women felt at the time this happened to them. He was one powerful man.
ReplyDeleteAnd, as we try to take on topic of Gryph's post, excuse me for saying that it also makes me cringe at how and or/why people of Alaska have been threatened by the Palins to the point they will not speak out as well.
Someday someone from Wasilla WILL find out they have the strength to speak up about them.
DeleteWhat a dirtbag.

Hey Bildo, what's a cubit?

Innocent until proven guilty. Money hungry attention seeking women are not believable. I blame social media.
ReplyDeleteGloria Allred is representing 3 MORE woman with claims against Cosby.
ReplyDeleteThere have to be more executives, personal assistants or "higher-ups" who knew about his behavior but covered up for him.
This is what used to be called the Casting Couch but Cosby took it one step further by slipping numerous women drugs to rape them and now we are finding out about underage girls!
As I see it he is a pedophile AND a serial rapist.
Only because I was in the entertainment industry and saw the underside of groupies and those extremely desperate and willing to do ANYTHING to be in the presence of celebrities and dream-makers like Cosby, I cannot take these accusations as rape charges too seriously.
ReplyDeleteDo I, as a woman, believe all of these women were raped by Mr. Cosby? Hell no!
Do I, as a woman, believe all of these women had sex with Mr. Cosby? Yep!
Did he have his way with them when both he and they knew they were there in HIS room to "party"? Probably and most assuredly, yes.
Were they willing to party? Probably and most assuredly, yes.
Did they tell anyone they slept with Mr. Cosby for the sole intention to of boosting their careers back in the day? Probably and most assuredly, yes. Did they receive any benefit or personal gain from being with Mr. Cosby? Probably and most assuredly, yes.
Was it consensual between the two at the time?
Probably and most assuredly, yes (whether hired to be company or not).
Is it cruel of me to minimize the situation between each woman and Mr. Cosby? Probably and most assuredly, yes.
Are there other notable folks in the industry that these ladies slept and "partied" with -- same as Mr. Cosby? Probably and most assuredly, yes.
The giveaway for me -- Janice Dickenson's interview where she said he "preyed upon women just leaving rehab". Dead giveaway for girls that party hard in the entertainment industry.
Just my two cents given strictly from my past experience in the entertainment, music and sports industries. There is NOTHING he can say that will make this any better for him, so the best thing for him to do is to stay silent until all the accusations roll in. Then maybe he will address them at one time. We might be in for a long wait. There could be dozens more waiting to come out.
Agreed. Everyone old enough knows what it was like in the late 60's and early 70's, those women should not have gone to his bedroom, or accepted the drinks. They knew what they were expected to do, they were ready to play for the benefits of being with a star. I sense a piling on here.
DeleteIt is never okay to drug and rape someone.
Delete"They were willing to do anything." NO EXCUSE.
"It was the 1960's." NO EXCUSE.
"They shouldn't have gone to the bedroom." NO EXCUSE. "They shouldn't have accepted a drink/pill." NO EXCUSE.
Bill Cosby deliberated created circumstances in which NO CONSENT was possible. Even if he had not used them for sex, he did an awful, awful thing to another person.
This latest woman has filed suit and I believe I heard local CA news report there's a therapist to corroborate her story.
ReplyDeleteHere is what bothers me. In recent years, we have had the public exposure of sexual predators and at least one pattern that has been mentioned over and over is the concept of "grooming" the victims. Sexual predators will look for someone who doesn't appear to have anyone to defend them, loners for example. Almost every victim of Sandusky, for example, came from a broken home. His "charity" was explicitly formed for "underprivileged" boys who didn't have a male figure looking out for them, which made them vulnerable and Sandusky exploited that.
ReplyDeleteThen the predators will try to gain the trust of the victim and offer special treatment. Next, is figuring out a way to get the victim alone.
Increasingly, the stories I hear from these women contain the elements of predatory behavior and they don't even realize that that is what they are describing. Of course, someone who wants to have sex wants to find a private place. But, it is the events leading up to that that are so disturbing and reveal the pattern. "Groupies" who are "extremely desperate and willing to do ANYTHING" are an easy target for a sexual predator, so gain her trust, promise her what she desperately wants to hear, serve her drugs and alcohol, get her alone, and voila, who needs to bother with getting pesky consent?
Especially when it is just so convenient and socially acceptable to blame the victim.
Karma. The once and always shitty comic receives.
ReplyDeleteYesterday, we told you that Tina Fey subtly slammed Bill Cosby over his history of rape allegations on an episode of 30 Rock called, “The Bubble.” Well, now it seems that wasn’t the first time the funny lady went after America’s dad for his off-side misconduct.
ReplyDelete...So, for anyone out there who was wondering precisely why it’s taken so long for industry insiders to comment on Cosby’s misdeeds, it’s because they were afraid. The women who were assaulted were afraid for the public smearing that many of them are receiving now. Comedians like Thompson, who owed their professional livelihood to Cosby, were afraid of losing work. Everyone was afraid to speak out except for one person: Tina Fey.
Another interesting note. This recent wave of Cosby backlash was begun back in October when Hannibal Buress accused Bill Cosby of being a “rapist” during a stand-up set. For those who don’t already know, Burress and Fey have history together; Burress spent a stretch back in 2010 as a writer on 30 Rock.
