ANNOUNCER: Meet Rachel. She’s a NEWS ANCHOR with a big personality.
She’s smart, funny and passionate. But we’re about to find out what
happens when she gets serious:
RACHEL MADDOW: This is a story of legitimate wrongdoing on a big scale.
MADDOW: Nope, that’s made up. Not true.
MADDOW: If we’re not going to ask these questions now then when exactly
are we going to ask them?
ANNOUNCER: From MSNBC, The Rachel Maddow Show, weeknight’s at 9.
Okay so that's the promo, which I like, but I have to admit the change of title did not even catch my attention.
Did it catch yours?
Well it certainly caught the attention of some people:
You won’t likely see MSNBC host Rachel Maddow filling in for Brian Williams on “NBC Nightly News.” While Maddow is usually described as the “host” of a cable news show, she is rarely called a “news anchor.” Her own NBC bio describes her as a “host”–and never even uses the word “journalist.”
So it’s worth noting that a new MSNBC promo flips the script, describing Maddow as a “news anchor with a big personality. She’s smart, funny and passionate.” Conservative critics immediately jumped on the promo, noting that previous “Lean Forward” promos for MSNBC included hosts like Maddow talking about their passion for progressive issues. “Given the MSNBC host’s long track record of pushing her agenda it’s hard to imagine anyone seriously considering Rachel Maddow anything more than a liberal commentator with a cable news show,” writes Jeffrey Meyer at NewsBusters.
You know I would agree that Rachel is a liberal, I think that it obvious to everybody.
However if she has an "agenda" it is that facts are important, and that they, not political agendas, should determine if a story is newsworthy or not.
It is not her fault that facts tend to have a liberal bias.
Whenever I am asked by anyone who is the most trusted voice on any topic in the news I do not even hesitate to say "Rachel Maddow." I have a lot of respect for Lawrence O'Donnell, and many others on MSNBC, but my go to host, I'm sorry news anchor, is ALWAYS Rachel.
Some have even compared her to the great Edward R. Murrow, and I think that is a perfectly reasonable and appropriate comparison.
There are those who want to argue that MSNBC's low ratings indicate that none of the hosts are terribly impressive, but I would say that is mostly the fault of marketing and has nothing to do with Rachel's reporting.
In my personal opinion Rachel Maddow is the most trusted voice in news today. And I think it is high time she is recognized for that.
Maddow brings to television news the integrity Obama brings to national leadership. Both are the very best.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully, I disagree. I'm glad she's got a Ph.D. from Oxford. I'm sure her parents are proud. I'm sick of her schtick; if anything, I'd like more analysis & less pop culture cutesy stuff. That said, I wish she could host "Meet the Press."
DeleteTo Anon at 11:28 PM -
DeleteI couldn't have said it better.
After her first video segment, she introduces her first guest and THE FIRST question she ALWAYS asks is: "Did I get that right?" ... "Was that an accurate summation of this issue?" ... "Do you have anything to add?" ...
ReplyDeleteI've never once ever seen her insult a guest -- no matter how right-wing or stupid (synonymous, I realize) - and she always lets them speak without constantly interrupting.
If that's "pushing her agenda" I sure wish more pundits would be that "pushy"!
Amen brother!
ReplyDeleteLiking Ms Maddow but please... enough with the college girl enthusiasm and the egregious split infinitives.
ReplyDeleteHeil Grammar Nazi!
DeleteThe Oxford Dictionaries no longer regard split infinitives as grammatically incorrect.
DeleteYou're cordially invited to roughly shove your 'egregious' attention-seeking trolling up your ass.
She is a Rhodes Scholar so proficiency in basic grammar shouldn't be a problem. She is easily the most honest and well-researched cable news host so that isn't too much to ask, is it?
DeleteBickering about the infinitive verb form has been going on for centuries. The current trend from at least the 1960s is that the split infinitive is perfectly acceptable.
DeleteI think the opening to Star Trek would be weaker if the writer had been obsessed with not splitting an infinitive. In my opinion, the adverb "boldly" placed before the verb "go" strengthens the verb in a way that tacking it on after the verb does not.
Rachel is my hero.
ReplyDeleteShe is my favored and have been watching her for years. Trust her over all others!
ReplyDeleteI wish they'd bring Fogelsang on board. He just might be a good replacement for Older man.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Rachael. She's smart and does her homework. If she makes a mistake, which is rare, she publicly corrects herself. My next go to is Lawrence O'Donnell. He's another one who is a stickler for facts. But after the midterm elections, I got so disgusted that I stopped watching news altogether. I needed a break from all the insanity. I still can't get over how voters vote against their interests. And I even suspect cheating going on by the GOP during the elections. The GOP are masters of lies/deceit and with the Koch Brothers' money they are really destroying this country.
ReplyDeleteThe Democrats did not sell or run on the many accomplishments of President Obama. Many ran against him. Blame the Democrats not the worthless Republicans.
DeleteIt just hit me how wonderfully amazing it is that, with her busy schedule and family commitments, Sarah made it a priority just after Trig was born to have all those letters and emails written in response to his birth bound in a folder for him later on.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet, and in a world where people with special needs are still starved and outcast.
Trig couldn't have a better family, a better best friend in his nephew, and better parents and siblings.
Haters keep lying, but you aint changing what love really is.
You 8:05 PM are sick and deranged. Sarah Palin did not give birth to Tri-g and YOU know it. Go away with your Palin fairytales, Troll. Your admiration of the Dysfunctional Palin Liars tells a lot about your lonely life. 'Haters' is your childish projection.
Delete8:05 IF there exists such a folder, it was NIOT made by $carah. The entire PayMe family COVERS up births, dates of births, baby daddies names. Not one of them would build a "folder" about a child's birth, $carah is NOT Trig's mother.
DeleteI hope she put the letter from his maker birth announcement someplace safe. Some day that document will be worth fifteen cents on the Antiques Road Show.
DeleteSeveral times when watching Rachel Maddow really expose some obscenity being done by the rightwing fascists, I've winced, expecting a crowd of brownshirted men to rush the stage and carry her off, in a bag.
ReplyDeleteWish I could say that about all the other "journalists" who tow the line for their masters.
I do not watch Fox, but there was a photo of Lizzie Hasselbeck on the Raw Story the other day. She was wearing a bright yellow top. It was so low cut, I expected her to start breastfeeding two kids at any moment. Is she worried about her gig on that network, I wonder? Lizzie has the "dumb blonde bimbo" part nailed to perfection, but is she aging out of her job, I wonder?
DeleteThey would need a deep bag, she is 6 feet. Yayyyyy
DeleteJust tonight, Rachel outlined the positive employment picture: best since 1999 (under Clinton). Also the rise of the stock market to new levels. All done during Obama's term and pretty much without the help of Congress. Quite impressive and Rachel was the only one who explained it and showed it with graphs and facts.
ReplyDeleteLawrence O'Donnell has been credited with exposing the assistant DA in the Ferguson matter for giving the grand jury a long outdated version of the code on lethal force that was used as the excuse by Darren Wilson as the reason he shot down unarmed Michael Brown.
I just wish more people watched these shows. And I wish that they'd give John Fugelsang his own show too.
Of all the talking heads in the NBC/MSNBC family of commentators, she and she alone deserves the MTP HOSTING JOB. That would then be, the show to watch. Every time she has been advertised to be on MTP the following Sunday, their ratings spike. I wonder if anybody at the corporate ever, over there, ever took notice,...seriously.
ReplyDeleteIt would be comical to see guests try to figure out how to be able to show that they were not afraid to appear on MTP and face Maddow because by God, they were brave and their cause was true, without having to actually, you know, appear on Maddow and get their clocks cleaned.
DeleteDr. Maddow would be outstanding! I'd love for her to get John McCain on and nail his ass. She'd ask him difficult questions and I doubt she'd let him avoid them! I personally think he is afraid of her!
DeleteShe is the very best out there!
I too watch and like the Rachel Maddow show.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that impresses me the most about Rachel is:
I've heard her say "I was wrong."
If and when Rachel gets it wrong - and she's only human, after all - she admits it.
Show me one single other person in the news that does that.
Anyone?
Bueller?
Bueller?
Um, I listened to her on radio, Sirius I think, and then have followed her in her column-equivalent on MSNBC. She has the chops to do a great job. Of course, whe won't tell you what to think, or dye her hair blonde.
ReplyDeleteThe two shows I trust for fact checking and reporting are Rachel's and Larry O Donnel's. Rachel's a stickler for getting things right, and if she makes an error, she corrects it publicly. She asks open ended questions and engages her guests to explain their answers the best they can. I've never seen her mistreat nor talk over any guest on her show, and she has meticulous manners. Who else mixes you a cocktail then sends you off to prison? The low ratings are on the network, they took a few chances with hosts and failed miserably (Karen Finney in "Disrupt" comes to mind along with Morning Joe.
