The Senate report on CIA torture techniques may only be the beginning. Soon there may be pictures.

Courtesy of The Daily Beast:

The Obama administration is withholding hundreds, perhaps even thousands of photographs showing the U.S. government’s brutal treatment of detainees, meaning that revelations about detainee abuse could well continue, possibly compounding the outrage generated by the Senate “torture report” now in the public eye.

Some photos show American troops posing with corpses; others depict U.S. forces holding guns to people’s heads or simulating forced sodomization. All of them could be released to the public, depending on how a federal judge in New York rules—and how hard the government fights to appeal. The government has a Friday deadline to submit to that judge its evidence for why it thinks each individual photograph should continue to be kept hidden away.

The photographs are part of a collection of thousands of images from 203 investigations into detainee abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan and represent one of the last known secret troves of evidence of detainee abuse. While the photos show disturbing images from the Bush administration’s watch, it is the Obama administration that has allowed them to remain buried—all with the help of a willing Congress.

The president may have entered office promising a new era of transparency—and was even prepared to release at least 21 of the photos in 2009. But Obama pulled back at the last minute at the urging of his top commander in Iraq, who worried the graphic images could generate a backlash against U.S. troops.

The possibility that terrorists might get angry enough to launch an attack on American troops of embassies overseas in response to anything released to the public concerning our torture of detainees is bullshit.

As others have said we are actively bombing the crap out of ISIL. If THAT has not convinced them to attack us it is hard to believe that a couple of reports or photos will push them over the edge.

However it just might cause the conservatives defending CIA torture to suddenly go quiet.

One of the reasons that the incident in Abu Ghraib grabbed the public's attention was that the American people were able to see what we were doing and they were disgusted.

I think the same thing will happen this time.

Which in my opinion would be a good thing, and would do much to ensure that we never revisited this type of inhuman treatment again.

In other words, bring-em on.

I don't think it will do anything more than outrage the moral people of this country, and maybe those in power could make changes, but there are others that see nothing wrong with this. They will just find ways to keep it hidden better.

I don't know why the President is keeping some of this in the dark, and I don't agree with that, but knowing he is a man of humanity I'm wondering if there isn't more to the story and his reasoning.

If it helps to bring a few indictments to be made higher level decision makers - and you know who they are- then release them.

How hard is it to understand.

It is Gryphen who has said, quoting someone directing, that Levi wanted to not only marry Bristol but start a family. He's said that at least once.

You need to improve your memories of the blog you obsess over before you name someone as troll.

      How drunk/insane are you, bitch?

      This thread is about torture.

Oh, I get it. Bristol is still tortured that Levi escaped her clutches.

You might want to improve your "memories of the blog you obsess over" 11:33, you're on the wrong thread.

Hey little troll creature. Where are you? Do you know your name? What year is this?
Oh shit! I think the robo-troll is broken. It's bumping around, mumbling nonsense, foaming at the mouth a little, and seems lost. Who's going to take it home? I'm not touching it.

Defending a child molesting SS agent. Defending Bill Cosby. And now you bring your girl crush here on a thread about torture?

So, I guess you agree with Sarah Palin that torture is "how we baptize terrorists."

Levi was tortured having to spend time at the Palin house homeschooling while Bristol was recovering from her "baby mono". Then he got stuck there again when she was knocked up with Tripp. That poor kid did more for that household than many of those with the surname Palin. So sad that Bristol tricked him twice. He was so good with Trig though, having engaged in Special Olympics hockey and even took Trig with him when the rest of the Palin Klan doesn't give two shits about that messed up little boy.

  4. How HARD it is indeed, Alicia. It's SO HARD, you're on the wrong damn page. But not totally surprising- you probably saw that prisoner in a desensitizing hood and thought it was Sarah in a dunce cap.

Life is harrrrd for a professional troll whose parents pay for her housing, clothing, cell phone which is constantly tuned to IM, etc. Poor, poor Alicia.

Poor, poor US. (You know, for being subjected to her juvenile claptrap.)

Remember that time in an earlier interview Levi, answering how did Todd react to the pregnancy, said "he was cool with it."

Will never forget that. Though he also initially denied having acquired the services of Rex, but later admitted it. It's hard. He has a mouthy, possessive sister who is young. (this isn't an attack. Most teens are like that. I know I was decades ago) His father left right when he was talking about marriage to his girlfriend. His mom couldn't really do anything with her pain level. No wonder he said "I thought of [sarah] as a second mother" and "todd was a great guy" in this interview.

"Life is fair because it's unfair to everyone" is the truest statement I personally know.

So, why don't we let these people continue to live their now happy lives. There is finally no drama whatsoever. Why would a bunch of strangers want to create it for them?

12:20 Oh hell no. They won't let any one else live in peace. I want to see them tortured. See dumbo, I managed to work the subject of this post into my comment. You are so delusional, Pointy. That is all the wicked witch knows how to do, cause drama.

Yes, why don't we leave LEVI AND HIS FAMILY out of all this, TROLL! YOU are the one who insists to bring them up over and over and over - even though THEY are living a pretty private live - contrary to your obsession, the Paylins!
Also, too: GET OFF the posts that have nothing to do with your brown nosing obsession. This post has to do with TORTURE - unless you are implicitly saying that the Paylins are torturing people!

Troll's torture is the fact that she has to live with a fucking mental illness that sucks balls and is unable to control her impulses. Troll's life is torture. Not sure why she goes on with it.

Because people asked for it. But this doesn't invite people to continue to bring any of their names up or harass them. This is super old news and the lack of drama between Levi and Bristol now shows they're starting to move forward and leave their bad decisions behind. Let them.

Remember, none of you know either one, their families or spouses. So stop stalking all of them and get lives.

12:39 Whoa sicko! You just don't get it. YOU do not know any of them. You never have, you never will. You pretend. That is not healthy. You are the one that is stalking them 24/7. I have never been to any of their facebooks, Have you?

The old hag has no one to blame except herself. She is the one that brought every bit of this attention right on herself. She should stop torturing America.

I'm not so sure that Alicia didn't do this on purpose. She's done a pretty good job at deflecting the conversation away from what monsters Bush & Co. were.

Have terrorists stopped plotting against and killing Americans while the photos - and the American people - have been kept in the dark? Showing people what torture really is is the way to bring the so-called "debate" about torture out of the fog of propaganda and show people what's really been done in our names. It could also be the tipping point that gets people to demand that the Obama administration prosecute those who are culpable. There is no legitimacy in torture - no legitimate reason, no legitimate justification, no legitimate results, and no legitimate reason to continue to provide cover for those who engaged in or authorized torture. Most of the damage done to America by Cheney/Bush/Fox can be undone if people stand up for what we know to be right and do it.

John Kerry, after Putin began his covert invasion of the Ukraine, stood on the world stage and said, "...in the 21st century, countries don't invade other countries under false pretexts." I was embarrassed for him, and embarrassed as an American. I've no doubt Putin and many others laughed at us. That's the legacy of Bush and Cheney - the world's villains laugh at us for pretending moral authority. The torture report, ironically, has given us the opportunity for a do-over. The chance to revisit the choice we had several years ago: to either accept the radical right wing's blind and cowardly Fuck Honor - We're Exceptional posturing or to summon the courage to break out the pitch forks and restore our honor.

Let's hope we get some help from a Federal judge to fuel that resolve.
