Did you feel a seismic shift in the internet the other day? Well this picture may have been the reason why.

Apparently you will either see a blue and black dress when you look at this picture, or a white and gold dress.

Arguments became so animated the it even threatened some marriages.

For the record I see a blue and black dress, which as it turns out is exactly what it is.

However scientists have weighed in as to why some people's eyes have played them for a fool.

    White and gold.
I saw the dress on the website though and prefer the black and blue sighting.
    Aren't our brains marvelous?

It's kind of interesting if some people are seeing underexposurr and some overexposure.

But I just don't know how people don't see the black. Sure it's faded due to poor lighting ad camera but that is definitely black. Haha

Although I know it's blue and black, it still looks white and gold to me. I think the jacket is what threw me off.

I see a white and gold dress but my children sees black and blue. My nieces sees both.

Many sees a fake village idiot from Wasilla with fake hair, fake breasts and fake face.

While others sees, well I don't know what they see.

Try slowly scrolling. Saw it as white and gold, but then when I scrolled so only the lower part was visible, teh black on another dress in the background made me compare and see blue/black.

    I see white and gold.
Regardless it has horizontal stripes and although I'm thin I'd never wear horizontal stripes across hips that bore children lol.

I learned from E! News last night that the actual dress is blue and black but it looks different when photographed in different lighting. The manufacturer is now going to make the same style in white and gold. Such earth-shaking issues!

I'm with you, blue and gold. I can see blue in the lightest parts of the dress (or interpret it as white), but the darkest parts in no way look like they could be black to me.

  9. I find it odd that (so far) ALL people who have viewed the photo say with 100% certainty that the dress is either blue & black OR white & gold. Every time I click on a photo of it, no matter what site, I immediately see the white & gold dress, stare at it and it transforms to blue & black in front of my eyes. It changes while I am viewing it. I can refresh the photo and see blue & black, stare.....and voila! It's white & gold again. Transfixed......:) Anyone else have this experience?

Same here. First time I saw it blue and black and thought how could anyone see gold and white. Clicked back on it, this morning and there was the gold and white and it quickly turned to blue and black. Amazing.

I saw blue and black yesterday, and today I see gold and white. I think this is a joke. This never happens. Maybe there are two out there.

I agree with you. I saw both color combos on the screen next to each other. This is a wild and effective marketing scheme.

It had me fooled, and stumped, until I used my fingers to black out the background on both sides. Then it's clear the dress is blue/black, and the photo is way over-exposed

O.K., that was so strange. When I first saw the dress in the pic above, I saw white and gold. I clicked on your link "what is this," and the dress on the website was blue and black. Came back here and the dress was blue and black. So weird.

This is just another mind game from liberal scientists trying to lure us into their soulless physical universe with all their relativistic "reasoning" and "rationalizing". THE FUCKING DRESS IS BLACK AND BLUE AND ANYONE WHO SEES DIFFERENT IS A GODDAMNED LIBERAL SHILL!

Perception of the colours isn't helped by the fact that Immoral Minority's page background is blue. On Firefox, try View|Page Style|No Style (you will likely need to use View|Zoom to get the image the same size as before). Against the now-white background the blue stripes are now much more obviously blue. Most browsers should have a similar way of turning off the page style.

In this photo, I see white and gold, but I saw the same dress shot from another angle and I saw blue and black. I have had a lot of laser surgeries on my eyes and I have trouble with shades of grey blending into each other. I wondered if having had so much laser and also sterioid shots in my eyes have altered my visual perceptions.

Are the people here that see blue and black left handed? I and the other two left handers in my family see blue and black/brown. If you notice on most of the surveys only 25% of the respondents see blue and black.

Isn't our minds a wonderous thing?

I first saw white and gold. Then I went to store site and saw all the different colors it's available in.

Come back here and it's blue and black and thought maybe it was a trick with the computer cookies--showing a different photo each time you went to the site.

Now I can switch colors "on demand." I'm pretty good at the old woman, young woman, the goblet/faces, and the duck/person things too.

    It's weird.

My second thought was maybe Sarah Palin should buy one of these dresses so that she can attract attention. Lookey at me!!! Look, I said, look. at. me.

I've seen both versions of the dress. Some of the photos were taken at a different time (they're not identical) and I guess the lighting makes a big difference. Most of the shots I saw I'd consider light blue and brown. Few people have admitted to seeing that variation. I guess that makes us special. I have not seen the color change in one image, only when there are different images. Ones that change color with repeated viewings are pretty weird. The explanation given by the vision experts still doesn't make sense to me.

No magic involved: it's all about lighting. Compared to the highly overexposed background, the blue looks white. Once your eyes mistake blue for white, then black looks gold. It's like your personal color meter is miscalibrated. When you convince your eyes to focus on the dress, apart from the background (good lighting helps here), then blue becomes blue, and black is black. People who see blue/black immediately must be better at filtering out the background and focusing on the dress itself.
