Let's play (Actually let's sit on our fat asses and watch) some FOOTBALL!

So today is the day where I do a bunch of things I NEVER do.

I'm going to watch a football game. (I have watched absolutely NO football games this year.)

I am going to watch commercials. (I usually turn the sound off when they come on.)

I am going to eat potato chips. (I very rarely eat chips.)

I am going to drink beer. (I bought a six pack for the last Superbowl and I did not drink the last beer until right before Christmas.)

And I am going to listen to Katy Perry sing. (I have heard her sing exactly two songs, "I Kissed a Girl" and "Roar." And I don't even remember why I listened to those.)

But today like millions of my fellow Americans I am going to participate in the ritual known as Superbowl Sunday.

I actually tend to enjoy it. In fact the games in the last few years have been pretty exciting.

However I am, for the most part, morally opposed to football since it causes lifelong suffering for those who play professionally and even men who played as kids can suffer debilitating brain injuries that can effect them for the rest of their lives.

I sort of approach the Superbowl like I do Christmas. I'm not really a believer, and I think being drawn into the faith that promotes it can be injurious, but I enjoy the pageantry.

If all goes well I will see a good game, gain four pounds, and who knows maybe Katy Perry will pull a Janet Jackson and the halftime show will actually be memorable.

Okay now who's playing again?

  1. For those who are interested (And I can't imagine why you would be) I'm rooting for the Seahawks.

They did not let me down last year, and as long as the Patriots don't pull any shenanigans I feel good about their chances this year as well.

My brother has Seahawk season tickets so I end up down there at games quite frequently so I guess I'll root for them. Tivoing it right now and will watch sometime this week. I did bet a bundle on Seattle so I really hope they pull this off! (my favorite part of sports is the gambling, can't help it...)

Not watching here- what kind of sport needs to have players told what to do every step of the way by wired up coaches on the sidelines? Might as well watch a chess match. Give me a hockey brawl or soccer scrum any day. I'll be in the TV room (there's a fire on the hearth), but working on my laptop. I do wish I had a beer though :)

We quit watching all football when they allowed Vick back into the league.

The Patriots all the way G. Maybe they will cheat and in the last 20 seconds will win by 3 points - lol. I see the score is still zero to zero in the first quarter, so we will see......

  9. I have the game play on mute and the commercials with sound and I'll spend half-time scraping Velvetta off the nacho plate and vacuuming the potato chip crumbs off the couch. I sorta hope the Pats win just because the Seasquawks get so much press.

This post almost perfectly describes my SB celebration except that I've heard one more Katy Perry song and I'm drinking Scotch instead of beer.

I'm betting that Lenny Kravitz will try to steal any 1/2-time performance buzz from Katy Perry. (apologies to Lenny if I've misjudged his egotism)

They hyped up Katy Perry and she sucked at halftime. Katy was boring.

    Technology gets 10/10.

Katy Perry, class AND talent. I love Madonna but she was a disaster. THIS year was a great halftime show

Patriots can't score unless they deflate their balls. (pun intended)

I was wondering why there's a bunch of men in my husband's mancave, just kidding. He picked the hawks as well. Philly fans are very loyal, and hardly ever rewarded. I just watch the commercials. Katy was ok, Madge needs a vacation or something, though I've seen her in concert and she blew the doors wide open with non stop motion, singing and an obligatory mirrored self crucifixion scene.

  17. What?

Why in the hell would the Seahawks pass the ball?

We are in the middle of that massive snow storm in the Midwest and our cable, internet and phones were down all day until about a half an hour ago. Just now able to turn into game. What an ending though!

Oh great...that's the storm that arrived on my doorstep a couple of hours ago and won't leave until tomorrow night. Something to look forward to.

    Can't stop laughing at these:

From August 2008 palinforvp Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President. Somewhere, and I can’t find it now, it was mentioned that she was going to bring the Christian vote to McCain.

*Wow! We love her! Some detractor said that while Obama was doing community work after getting his law degree, she was only a reporter or something like that. HELLO! She is a mother of five. What planet are you from? As a mother of seven with the eighth on the way, I can tell you that community work is a breeze compared to 24/7 running a family. She's so refreshingly honest, so profamily(LOVE the way she defended her sister against the brute state trooper husband), doesn't just talk about prolife, she's a living example of it with that gorgeous baby boy, and she's stunningly beautiful! You go girl!!!
*To all you folks who are griping about inexperience, you are missing the point: Obama is inexperienced from Day One. McCain has the experience, and we won't have a problem with Palin's inexperience unless or until McCain dies in office. Scary either way, but which set of odds do you like better?
*I’m not American and that means I cant vote. I'm of African origin same as Obama but I just cant get into the Obama train. I had never wished Obama to become the president of the USA, but after he picked Biden as his running mate and watching the DNC I started falling in cue.

*Hillary Cliton had always been my choice; she possessed the CV and charm to be a worthy president. Now Mc Cain is definately my preffered choice because she has Sarah Palin as his VP. Those who doubt her experience, well, Obama doesnt fair better. She's a mother, a good wife and no matter what people try to paint Alaska as one small state in America, to me she's probably the Commander in Chief of one of the most important borders of the USA considering its nearness to Russia. This adds up to her esperience/
*We shouldn't be hypnotized by speeches and fireworks, but by looking at the history of the person to know how they will act when things get very ugly, because talk and sparkle will not work then. I'm voting for John and Sarah (means princess).
*In less than .. what, 12 hours or so all of us THOUSANDS OF US Palin supporters will either be jumping having made history (Thanks Adam for the leadership!) or we'll look copmletely stupid and delusional :)

The Seattle Seahawks were cursed before the game even started!

The SARAH PALIN CURSE made its way to Superbowl 49

Sarah and Mrs. Todd Palin are members of the Seahawkers — the Seahawks fan club — in Alaska.

  23. For the 11th year in a row, I watched The Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. It was OK. But I'm glad I have the DVDs from the first 7 years. After I cut the cable I won't get Animal Planet anymore.

So I guess the Animal Planet puppies were wrong. They predicted Seattle to win That was the blue and red team, right?

I wonder which team Fallon's puppy predicted. Doesn't he do that every year? His dog is usually right.

I haven't googled any of the commercials yet. I did see Go Daddy's horrendous fail on the news. They really should have known better. I hope whoever was responsible for that got fired. I mean, really. What were they thinking?
