Texas sportscasters epic response to racism at a high school sporting event is your must see of the day.

Courtesy of TPM:

WFAA's Dale Hansen dedicated his "Hansen Unplugged" segment Tuesday to a controversy in the Dallas suburb of Flower Mound, where students were photographed last week holding up signs that read "White" and "Power" at a basketball game against a team from a more racially diverse school.

"Kids have to be taught to hate and it's our parents and grandparents, and our teachers and coaches, too, who teach us to hate," Hansen said. "Kids become the product of that environment. I was. And they are."

"The kids who hold the signs and chant their racist slurs — and it's not all of them. It never is," he said. "But their ignorance perpetuates the stereotype of all of us in Texas as a racist, ignorant people."

That was a thing of beauty.

Texas is lucky to have Dale Hansen, and it needs more just like him.

Maybe they could do a story about all the hate on this blog.

Maybe they could do a story about nut jobs who stalk blogs where they are obviously not wanted, or welcome.

Sorry but you are mistaken. Sure there are a few posters who are out of line, but for the most part, people here are frustrated and disgusted that such a phony grifting family is picking the pockets of Americans while ginning up an underbelly of ugliness and hatred. The putzes are the Palins, Heaths, and their enablers.

Poor Sarah. No one wants you at the CPAC after party? Lowered to the level of being "first" to say something stupid on TIM? Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

They should have done more stories on the pure hate generated by Sarah Palin in 2008 when she had her crowds chanting "Kill Him" when referring to then Senator Obama.

We don't hate. We're the first line of defense against the willful, ignorant, uneducated riffraff of our society that wants to take over our government.
To do that, we are a wise and watchful community, aided by Gryphen.
Plus, it's lots of fun to poke holes in the pomposity of the right wing thugs.

    7. Fuck yeah, there's a lot of hate here (speaking for myself). I hate:
      ignorance
      racism
      sexism
      inequality
      injustice
      poverty
      lies
      religious indoctrination

      And that's just part of the list . . . .

So, you hate ignorance, except hate is ignorance.
You hate racism, yet things like affirmative action is racist.
You hate lies and would rather tell an injurious truth than a harmless lie.
You hate the Bahai faith which indoctrinates people to the principles of peace, love and understanding for all peoples.

You may not have thought this out too thoroughly.

Okay, who does your saint Sarah hate? That would be anyone who disagrees with her, criticizes her in any way or anyone who likes our good president. She is the most petty, vengeful creature, creating an atmosphere of hatred, trying to get our president killed, trying to get Joe McGinnis killed and anyone else that pissed her off, accusing people of being pedophiles, etc. She and her family are a real class act.

I watched it live. It was great. Dale Hansen's always been a standup guy.

They could add "White Power - Not White Trash" signs to most any school around where I live, too. I wish it could go without saying, but it doesn't.

    Gryphen,
I saw this yesterday and the only thing I can say is, "Thank You Mr Hansen. You have renewed my faith in humanity. "

Gryph, the Albert Einstein quote Mr Hansen concluded with is a tribute to you and your zealousness in trying to take down Sarah:

"The world will not be destroyed by those that do evil, but by those that watch them and do nothing."

    Thank you Gryph for posting.

I am encouraged that arrogant ignorant will continue to be called out for what it is.

The consequences of defending conscientious stupidity is dangerous. It is disgusting those who claim enlightenment and it is disastrous for individuals. Families, communities, society is damaged by insufferable institutional attitudes about 'others'.

Hate sells; love prevails. Respect matters.

I walked out of the church I had attended for years because
of blatant racism against our President. Oh yes, I told them
why I was leaving. I am not into organized religion anymore!
    Nature is awesome!

If you would like to be part of an organized "religious" community but want to go somewhere progressive, may I suggest you try the Unitarian Universalist church near you? They support gay rights, immigration reform, and many other social justice issues, and you can be an atheist (like me) or anything else and still feel welcome. There is no creed, just seven principles. The Mudflats' blogger Jeanne Devon is UU. I never wanted to be part of organized religion until I found the UU church.

This is the same guy who had such a great commentary that also went viral after football player Michael Sam came out as gay. What a great guy.

Not much on sports, but Dale Hansen is one of our few treasures in the DFW area. Gotta love the guy.
