Alaska's sole Congressman has a solution to the homeless problem, wolves.

"Got wolves?"
Courtesy of CBS News:

Alaska Rep. Don Young has settled on a novel solution to the problem of homelessness: wolves. Young, a long-serving Republican with a history of odd commentary, discussed the idea during an exchange on Thursday with Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, who was testifying before the House Natural Resources Committee about her department's budget.

Young has been pushing for the Interior Department to remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list, and during the hearing, he ridiculed a letter sent by 79 lawmakers to Jewell urging her to protect the gray wolf population. "How many of you have got wolves in your district?"

Young asked the other lawmakers on the panel. "None. Not one."

"They haven't got a damn wolf in their whole district," he added. "I'd like to introduce them in your district. If I introduced them in your district, you wouldn't have a homeless problem anymore."

I swear we elect politicians in Alaska based simply on how embarrassing they might be to the state.

You know I really hate to argue with the Congressman, but we have wolves in Alaska. Including some that venture into the Anchorage bowl itself where most of our homeless congregate.

And yet we have a homeless population that is ranked among the top ten highest in America.

Not that it needed to be said, but his "solution" is both ridiculous and inhumane. Sort of like Don Young himself.

By the way I am not even sure that Young knows what he is saying anymore. I think he is more than likely suffering from some form of dementia or Alzheimer's.

Not that that is any excuse.

Since the entire population of the state is not even 1 million, I doubt the homeless population equals 1/2 a million.

DY is a fekking idiot! Another village idiot like Palin!
On one hand Alaskan's pander to the "Rough & tough" image but then whine about wolves....
Come on its fucking Alaaaasssska!!! There are BEARS and Wolves and Polar bears (not for long) roaming. What a fucking dick he is? How does someone this stupid get elected?
Ooops sorry, the state that elected MS Thang herself....that louboutin wearing fake butt wearing meth addict Sarah "fucking" palin!!!
I hope Sally tells them to fuck themselves and saves the wolves. We need all our precious wildlife and only idiots think we don't and that also goes along with saving pristine areas like ANWR instead of drilling the fuck out of it like Murky wants to do now.

Gryphen, I think that people of Young's general mind set have been indoctrinated at a young (pun intended) age. They do not have the capability to reason themselves into something approaching compassion.

The population of Alaska (the entire state!) is 600,000+! I've lived in Alaska since 1950 (grade school age) and once I started voting have NEVER cast mine for Don Young.

The guy is a jerk and embarrassment to Alaska! In fact, the wolves should be directed to the House of the United States Congress! Perhaps they'd like to meet the Republicans there that include Young?.

Young is more than a jerk - he is a first class asshole that doesn't have a clue how to reign in his mouth!

He carries the native vote in Alaska and that is how he continues to get reelected. Plus, he doesn't do anything while in D.C. - check his records. He has a terrible voting record there too!

Then someone needs to spend the next year+ educating Native voters about what he's said and how little he does for Alaska. Offer a palatable alternative that they can think about and listen to during all this time that Young's missing votes and making a fool of himself.
Do they want to be represented by a fool -- even if he's their fool? Surely the Native population has a younger, smarter, and wiser politician who could run against Young?
For the love of the Constitution, Don Young is not what the Founding Fathers envisioned when they asked for representative government -- unless they wanted a small percentage to stand up for fools, tools, uneducated and proud of their ignorance citizens. That would include Palin to a tee.

He's got so much Congressional pension built up, and lifetime medical care, that he could coast on easy street for the rest of his cranky old get-off-my-lawn days.

Is there no recall option available?
That sort of statement is stupid, but also criminal.
Are Alaskans willing to wait another 20 months of embarrassment of having this man-with-a-hinge-loose representing them?
Why and where are Alaskan Democrats?
Your state has been humiliated by its association with Sarah Palin, Ted Stevens, and Don Young. You'll soon be more embarrassed with Dan Sullivan and the continuing shenanigans of Lisa Murkowski.
What the heck goes on up there?

Seriously lots of people have wells in AK certainly in Wasilla they do. I think benzene or something from all the oil drilling has seeped into the water table or something, something in the water.
Maybe Anchorage has public water b/c the crazy isn't so much there. Its just nuts...!

  8. I think you're right about dementia or Alzheimer's. Both conditions tend to remove the filters from one's intellect that govern social niceties. In other words, if etiquette keeps a SOB from saying something rude or untimely or hateful, dementia or Alzheimer's eliminates that etiquette filter.

About 15-20 years ago, they re-introduced the Wolf to the lower 48, in the Rocky Mts. Of course, the ranchers objected highly. Many were killed off by many of the ranchers. Guess they had chips inserted in the ears so they could track their movement. Many were found with dead from gun shot wounds. One was found back east on a freight train - dead. Hobo wolves? :-) It was turned loose in Montana! I haven't heard what the census count is recently, but believe many survived and have reproduced. Crazy Don better check his statistics before he says no one else has them. I can safely say, there are probably no wolves under the bridges in Denver as the homeless population has seemed to grow quite large in the past few years. Not many homeless hang out in our mountain ranges around this area. Our Park Rangers keep the homeless population down pretty good in the summer. The marijuana shops and liquor stores are all in the city. Our homeless shelters have been overflowing with all our below freezing and sub-zero temps this winter. Have not heard of one of our wolves attacking the shelters or streets so far.

Young has NEVER been polite - even years ago! He's an ass! There is no excuse for his behavior....NONE.

Looks as though Alaskans can expect to see him die while in D.C.! Amazing! He NEVER should have been placed there in the first place!

Alaskans need to pay better attention for whom they cast their votes! Their record is awful! (Palin, both Murkowskis, Young, Mayor Dan Sullivan, the Ohio guy they recently elected to Congress and some of their Alaska Legislators!)

Lisa Murkowski is the next one Alaskans need to vote out of office in 2016. She has already hired (announced in the Anchorage Daily News) the group that got Ohio Dan elected!

It's obvious she knows she is going to have a difficult time. I wonder how much money the oil companies and Koch Brothers will put in her race? She's been bought!!!!

She needs to LOSE because she speaks out of both sides of her mouth - says one thing and votes in Congress completely differently! Alaskan voters need to keep track of her record.

I plan to do everything I can to see she is not reelected! People are sick to death of Republicans and she is a part of the most disliked United States Congress on record! And, she is a major part of why it has horrible ratings!

Young knows nothing about wolves apparently.
Frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing both, especially the wolves running around the DC area. The deer population are doing real damage to local ecosystems.
People would have to start keeping the dogs and cats in their yards and homes from now on, but that's what they should have been doing all along.
We got the homeless already. Bring on the wolves. I bet they'd befriend one another and it would be fabulous.

I am personally in favor of protecting wolves. They were reintroduced here in northern Michigan about 20 years ago and there's now a movement to stop protecting them. I figure that they were welcomed a generation ago just to build up their population so hunters would be able to kill them all off again. Horrible. How little respect we have for nature and for our dogs' ancestors.
PS Don Young is an idiot.

  20. So Young is suggesting using wolves to control the homeless population? Like....the wolves with hunt down and eat the homeless? Is that what he's saying?

Well, here in California we'll be happy to take some wolves. Not for our homeless population. To release into the Sierras to replace the wolf population that was driven out or killed off years ago.
