Sen. Reid was told that he had a surprise caller, and after a pause a voice came on the line and said, “Is this Harry Reid?” Reid answered, “It is.” The President said, “Harry, this is Barack.” Reid could only say, “Well, I’ll be damned.” Obama asked, “Are you allowed to say that on live radio?” Reid repeated, “Well, I’ll be damned. What a guy.”
The President said, “Well, I think when the stories has been written and when all is told, you’re going to have somebody who has done more for the Nevada for this country than anybody who has been in the Senate. I could not be prouder of him. He did an unbelievable job on a whole bunch of really tough issues. Saving this country from a depression, making sure millions of people had health care, making sure that young people were able to go to college. He’s been one of my best partners and best friends, and I’m really honored to have served him.”
Harry Reid was also quite effusive in his praise of the President, and ultimately it was a very nice moment where two battle scarred veterans of many political skirmishes expressed admiration for each others courage and tenacity.
After listening to this exchange all I could think is what will this country do without Barack Obama and Harry Reid at the helm of this nation steering us around and over Republican obstructionism and bad policy decisions?
You better bring your "A" game Hillary Clinton, because you are definitely going to need it.
It is ironic and very sad how short the collective memory of the nation is when it comes to politics. With the onset of the great recession, the republicans were willing to watch this country burn just like Nero did with Rome. Unlike many, I will never forget what Barack and Harry Reid did to save the country. Hindsight now has had enough time to prove them absolutely correct in how they handled the country during those times.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the march toward equality and justice for LGBT, their defense of voting rights and ACA prove that they are the true patriots, not the tea bagging idiots.
Unfortunately, the senate has now gone the path of the house and has become a divided wasteland controlled by stupidity. I have no doubt about Hilary's ability to govern as president. I just hope the congress is returned to Democratic leadership so she has the legislative tools she needs to preserve this country from going back to the middle ages.
We met with our financial advisor last week and he mentioned that the 2008 economic crash was the worst since the Great Depression and that recovery would have been faster had there been more stimulus. I bit my tongue and did not say that the Democrats and President Obama wanted a greater stimulus but the GOP blocked their efforts. I think what he said was a great admission on his part: he is a quite conservative person. He knows we are on the other end of the political spectrum because of the political signs we put up during election seasons.

Unfortunately, it looks like Senator Schumer (D - Israel and big banks) will be the new leader of the senate dems. A huge step backwards for our country.
ReplyDeleteThere is a huge contingent trying to get Bernie Sanders to run for president. I think he would be wonderful, but would he win? Bernie could get the minority, senior, independent, youth vote, but he doesn't have the name recognition of the general populace who don't watch the news and cast ballots at the last minute without research. Hillary has name recognition (is that good or bad?) and fundraising mojo. And then we would lose Bernie in the Senate if he lost the presidential election. What a big gamble that would be.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way Bernie Sanders could EVER win. Hillary will have a hard enough time.
Delete(And the senior vote? No, all the seniors I know vote against their own interests on a regular basis. I'm actually getting to the point where I just hope the Republicans take all their entitlements away from them.)
Can you say Medicare, people? Can you say Social Security?
Perhaps Hillary could put Bernie Sanders on her ticket when she runs for POTUS? That would be an interesting duo. Like them both as I think they are both quite smart!
ReplyDeleteWill be fun watching who she selects.
What an honor! I've always liked Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, No one has worked harder for us, our president, and our country I owe Harry a large debt of gratitude for his contribution to getting the economy going again, his work on Obamacare and what it's done to benefit so very many people. "Well I'll be Damned", I have to remember that one!
