Federal judge rules Wisconsin abortion restrictions unconstitutional.

Courtesy of the AP:

A federal judge on Friday struck down a Wisconsin law requiring doctors performing abortions to get hospital admitting privileges, ruling that any benefits to women's health from the requirement are "substantially outweighed" by restricting women's access to abortion.

U.S. District Judge William Conley, who earlier had put the law on hold, ruled that the 2013 law is unconstitutional. He issued a permanent injunction blocking its enforcement.

Planned Parenthood and Affiliated Medical Services had sued the state, arguing the requirement will force AMS's Milwaukee clinic to close because its doctors can't get admitting privileges.

The groups argued that would amount to restricting access to abortions in Wisconsin. State attorneys contended the mandate would ensure continuity of care for women hospitalized with abortion complications.

In his ruling, Conley wrote that the "marginal benefit to women's health" by requiring hospital admitting privileges "is substantially outweighed by the burden this requirement will have on women's health outcomes due to restricted access to abortions in Wisconsin."

"While the court agrees with the State that sometimes it is necessary to reduce access to insure safety, this is decidedly not one of those instances," Conley wrote. "In particular, the State has failed to meet its burden of demonstrating through credible evidence a link between the admitting privileges requirement and a legitimate health interest."

Well this is great news, though it is only one victory against an unprecedented number of attacks on abortion rights by conservatives since  2010.

The fact that today we have to continue to defend the right of women to have control over their own reproductive systems forty years after Roe vs Wade is unconscionable.

And yet the Republicans continue to deny that there is a war against women.

O/T -- Ted Cruz (R- Calgary) will announce his Presidential bid on Monday.
Sens. Marco Rubio and Rand Paul are expected to follow.

Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush -- the GOP
    hopefuls are multiplying.

This is the perfect time -- the best and only time -- for Sarah Palin to choose whom she supports as President, and give him all the endorsements and money she can to solidify her championship of her candidate.

We should be hearing from Sarah within the month. She knows each candidate's basic positions. She'll want to put herself out there to give all the aid she can to the truest of true tea baggers.

    We're waiting Sarah.

The only reason to delay is because you're still thinking of a candidacy yourself. The time's drawing close when you'll need to make that public-- to start an election PAC, and hit the road, gathering endorsements.

Four years ago, you got in a bus to show America your bona fides and love for our country. Then, a few months later, in early October, 2011, you pulled out, just as filing deadlines were becoming urgent.

Don't wait that long this time, Sarah. Pick someone who could actually get elected -- and who might owe you with a political plum once he's elected. Or proceed full-steam ahead with your own bid for the White House (1600 Pennsylvania Avenue).

It's now or never to make your choice for 2016.
    Palin/Cruz?
    Palin/Waler?
    Palin/Rubio?
    Palin/Paul?
    or -- Palin/Glenn Beck?

    This will be exciting!

This has been a festering greenish, pus filled, pimple on my ass for what seems like forever.

This is how I see this bullshit.

I was always taught that there is a separation of church and state. The two were to stay separate. Government governs. Churches teach religion. Keep YOUR religion out of EVERYBODY"S government. YOUR religious beliefs do NOT apply to all people.

So called christians, in America, do NOT have the right to make national laws that ALL people MUST follow according to their religion.

Abortion and gay marriage are religious topics. Period!

Why are these two religious topics allowed to be discussed in politics? Why are so called christians allowed to force their beliefs onto those that do not share that belief?

The men and women politicians have spent DECADES wasting time and money, lots of money, shitloads of money, discussing, arguing, fighting over these two subjects that are religious opinions. That have NO business even being discussed.

WHY? Why is this even allowed? Why aren't the christian freaks batted down every time they pull this shit? Christians are not the goddamn boss of anybody except themselves.

This has got to be stopped! Any ideas? Let's put these freaks and their religion back where they belong. In THEIR churches, in THEIR homes, in THEIR heads. Mother fuckers! Leave the rest of us alone. What I do with my uterus and who I fuck are none of your business! Never has been, never will be.

I wish there was a male equivalent to abortion, but unfortunately there isn't. So lets substitute a law that all males against abortion get a mandatory permanent sterilization. I'm sure the Church and christians everywhere would be fine with that.

  8. The problem with this is that Scott Walker couldn't care less that this law was overturned. Walker couldn't care less about actul governance, only about the APPEARANCE of him "governing." He now has a box checked off that says "Supported anti-abortion efforts" to use during his campaign to be the looniest GOP contender. I assure you, that is his motivation for everything he does. As shown by the dismal results his policies have produced here in Wississippi, he does give a shit if his policies work or not.
