A few days after accusing “global warming alarmists” like California Governor Jerry Brown (D) of ridiculing and insulting “anyone who actually looks at the real data” around climate change, newly-declared presidential candidate Ted Cruz (R-TX) upped his rhetoric against those who care about the issue.
Speaking to the Texas Tribune on Tuesday, Cruz said that contemporary “global warming alarmists are the equivalent of the flat-Earthers.”
“You know it used to be it is accepted scientific wisdom the Earth is flat, and this heretic named Galileo was branded a denier,” he said.
In Cruz’s opinion, when it comes to climate change, his denier position places him alongside 17th Century scientist Galileo Galilei, who was also considered to be denying the mainstream knowledge of his day.
What Cruz fails to recognize is that Gailileo was not taking the minority scientific position against "Accepted scientific wisdom," he was taking a scientific position against a religious position.
That is why the Catholic church threw his ass into prison.
And what Cruz is doing today is to take the religious position, which is that only God can control the climate, against the scientific one, which is essentially "What are you high? Of course pollutants sent into the atmosphere by human beings are negatively impacting climate."
You know it takes some set of Cuban/Canadian balls to compare yourself to Galileo Galilei while arguing on the side of the religiously superstitious.
Yeah, this is an "argument" I see used all the time by climate change deniers who fail to acknowledge that "flat Earth" was NEVER "science", because science is about verifiable facts and evidence.
ReplyDeleteIt's just another cheap ploy to bring science down to a level where idiots can pretend they can have a differing opinion from actual scientists and should be taken seriously.
A better educated society would laugh Cruz right out of his socks for saying something that stupid while pursuing the most powerful position on the planet.
Ted Cruz is a knuckle dragger.
ReplyDeleteAnd he likes to throw poop!
DeleteCruz is only saying what his ignorant group of Fox viewers want to hear. They’ve heard all of the negative comments the Republicans have claimed about climate change in order to protect their corporate donations. All Cruz ever does is say what the far right wants to hear and he never offers solutions.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt if someone knowledgable about the scientific basis of climate change with Cruz, he would try to redirect the conversation in another direction, like he also always does.
tell that greasy smarmy satanic eyed fuk it's gonna get to 50 degrees plus in Fairbanks today - and we're what, still in March, correct ?
ReplyDeleteArgue science with science, religion is NOT science.
ReplyDeleteTed Cruz = F#@ktard
ReplyDeleteHe is as much a liar as Palin.
ReplyDeleteI swear the man looks like he has no teeth and no eyes. Weird.
ReplyDeleteC'mon, Unctuous Ted, get it over with now.
ReplyDeleteWe know what you really want to say: "Jeebus was crucified for courageously opposing the entrenched interests of His time just as You are being cruzified for Your courageous opposition to the entrenched science-based orthodoxy of the modern world"
Cruz also displays his complete ignorance about Galileo- Galileo did not argue that the earth was flat, that was accepted and ultimately proven by Magellan's voyage in the early 1500's, while Galileo was not tried by the church until 1633. Rather, Galileo was tried and convicted for "heresy" for his (correct) theory that the earth revolved around the sun and not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteTed Cruz, as ignorant about Galileo as he is about climate change.
I am ashamed of Americans & American politics that lets such an ignorant asshole get this far! He thinks he can be President: what does that say about the presidency in his voters eyes?
ReplyDeleteI want to see Bill Nye and deGrasse Tyson take him apart with pure logic.
ReplyDeleteM
The average jeopardy teen would do just fine!!!!
DeleteOr any one of the kids who were at the White House for the annual Science Fair. There are eight year-olds who are smarter than Cruz and the rest of the GOP.
DeleteBeaglemom
Please please please - it's bad enough having a Prime Minister who is a closeted ( literally and figuratively - see Parliament Hill
ReplyDelete"terror" event ) Teabagger, but to see my once ( and will be again) fair country given any credit for the wingnuttery this idiot spews is a low blow. I'm a daily visitor, and will be as long as you keep posting, but keep in mind ( your legion of readers, too ) that Ted may have been born in this country, but he's not one of us.
And you are SO lucky!
DeleteHow much do you want to take him back?
DeleteName your price to take him back...
DeleteWe'll gladly pay...
We have a friend who insists that Ted Cruz must be smart because he went to Princeton and Harvard. If that made him smart, why is he pretending to be so amazingly stupid? In my opinion, he is amazingly stupid. His positions and stances on the issues of the day are so extreme that he can never make them right.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
I disagree. I think he is smart in most ways, but he is also completely egocentric and devoid of any ethical constraints. He is playing to a certain crowd. I don't think he's stupid, just crazy, and willing to do and say anything to gain power.
DeletePeople who have worked with him say he's a huge egotistical bastard. It's not that he isn't smart, it's that he's no where near as smart as he thinks he is.
There's a difference between smart and cunning.
DeleteCruz has some book learning but is hardly intelligent nor a critical thinker.
he dose't acknowledge that we KNOW the Earth isn't flat,,, so his argument about climate change and a flat earth is WHAAAAT? Pure bullshit... he isn't "brilliant" if he can't get THAT!.
ReplyDelete"The DipShit From Texas" who has demonstrated that he indeed is profoundly dumber than "The Village Idiot Of Crawford Texas" not only shows he is clueless about Science but he is clueless about History as well.
ReplyDeleteThis DipShit Darling of the Regressive Party, needs to go back to the time of Plato telling Aristotle the earth was round, and offering no explanation of the theory to his star pupil. Aristotle then offered the Scientific Evidence that the constellations changed as you travelled north and south, and the shadow of the earth on the moon during an eclipse was curved. Therefore the earth was spherical.
Seleucus in the 2nd Century BC was a believer that not only was the earth spherical but that it revolved around the sun.
Eratosthenes used the round earth theory and shadows to provide a remarkably accurate measure of the circumference of the earth.
Ptolemy's Geographia was a round earth map made in the 2nd Century AD and held close until the colonization of the American Continent.
Galileo made a Telescope and showed the Galilean Moons orbiting Jupiter as proof of the moons orbiting planets and planets orbiting the sun. For offering "Visual Proof" Galileo was convicted of "Heresy."
How far back into history are we going to let these Regressive Party Turds take us?
Anon@1:44... Thank you! I wish we could post your analysis on every nutball website. As for your last question: All the way to the Stone Age if we, in our proven idiocy, permit any one of the "wrong wing" theocratic warlovers close to the nuclear codes.
DeleteMy position is no more presidents from the state of Texas for the rest of the century. We've had quite enough.
DeleteFromTheDiagonal, Use it as often as you see fit, I like nothing more than replying to these Ignorant Stupid Regressive Party Members on various Forums, Message Boards, and Comment sections.
DeleteThe problem is that you will never win because the Clown Car only makes Right Turns in their Circular Arguments. I firmly believe that not a single one of them needs ObamaCare because they have already gotten Free Lobotomy Surgery from Ben Carson paid for by Sheldon Adelson & The Koch Suckers...
All of Ted Cruz's wisdom is on a 1k memory chip that replaced his brain....
They don't learn the kids science in bible thumping school.
DeleteI agree with you completely, Anon at 3:32 pm.
DeleteBeaglemom
The more I see of Cruz the more I think the national GOP is letting him go all wiggy so that when Jebby finally announces they can say "Look, Jeb's not a lunatic like that Cruz guy!"
ReplyDelete...and what was their plan with stupid Sarah as VP choice? They are now and always have been in it for all the wrong reasons. Not a statesman among them. How can voters be SO dumb?
DeleteThey had no idea Sarah was a nutjob that couldn't even speak English.
DeleteThey looked at her picture and though whoa momma and drooled.
I guess they figured if she could get elected governor she must be smart enough for them to groom for the office.
We all know what a big mistake that was.
It is called a circle jerk... Sarah did all the clean up by hand and mouth.
DeleteAre there really such masochists in this country they'd want to look at that face for four years?! Say what you will about Palin, but her appearance in 2008 didn't make you want to squint.
ReplyDeleteIt did make me say, "That is one dumb c*nt."
DeleteWell, i would like him to live in a box and see how sustainable he is, probably destroy his own habitat in that box. Shithead.
ReplyDeleteDamn, he is fugly. How did his wife stand to do it with him twice?
ReplyDeleteThe Lunesta Buttefly and some hard whiskey.
DeleteAll these Once-lers.
ReplyDeleteTed Cruz is putting out a book in June. This is a pre-tour to flog the book. He's very happy to be incoherent because it gets him even more publicity.
ReplyDeleteNot sure which is worse:
ReplyDelete- he's stupid enough to believe that what he's saying is true
OR
- he knows that what he's saying is bullshite and is just pandering to the baby jeebus lovin' science deniers
Both are scary scenarios but the second one is decidedly evil. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a Republican actually came forward and spoke like a sentient, educated American, was willing to admit that President Obama has done a great job despite their party's duplicity? There simply isn't one alive who would do that; they are all so terrified of losing Koch and Fox support. And they all wallow in the ignorance of their supporters. Ughhh!
DeletePS Cruz is really funny looking too.
Beaglemom
Yeah and Gallileo didn't think Fox News is a "credible" source for science, news, nor health. Can we trade Cruz for the mayor of Toronto? At least we'd be laughing a lot more.
ReplyDeleteYea Rob Ford is twice as viable politically as this mouth breathing missing link...
DeleteThat's true. Rob Ford had the huge advantage of NOT being a hypocrite.
DeleteFUCK YOu Teddy Canuck the FUCK
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned on another forum when somebody was commenting on the great Steve Nash's retirement: Steve was born in South Africa but was brought up in Canada. Ted Cruz was born in Canada but was brought up in the U.S. See the difference? So we Canucks would be very happy if you would stop referring to Cruz as a Canuck. He's no more Canadian than you are.
DeleteI don't care Maple...
DeleteTake him back!
Please... Please... Please...
"...because that is all this utter, blithering, obnoxious waste of my time deserves. But it is not a just and decent world, evidenced vividly by the fact that a greasy huckster fraud cretin Batman-villain-looking human clown car is not only running for President of the United States, but is actually being taken seriously by the "news" media."
ReplyDeletehttp://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/29826-ted-cruz9h-dfxqqqqqqq
If Raphael is comparing himself to Galileo, maybe could put him under house arrest for the rest of his life.
ReplyDeleteHarvard huh?
ReplyDeleteAlso his comparison is backwards. So add shit-poor logic to the list of fail.
A couple of interesting things about Cruz:
ReplyDeleteFirst, he has a photographic memory, which enables him to orate without a teleprompter.
Secondly, when the family moved to Texas with li'l Ted was about 4, the parents were heavy drinkers and nearly split up. Daddy Cruz was "saved" by becoming a born again Xtian, and became a charismatic preacher. So li'l Teddy was truly and thoroughly indoctrinated into that world. He totally believes in the Dominionist cult whereby his brand of Xtianity takes over every aspect of American life -- government, religion, culture, education etc. Whoever first started calling him a member of the Tealiban was 100% accurate. That's why they use the scare tactic of Sharia law to frighten people -- it's to deflect from what they want, which is exactly the same thing with a different name.
