Baptist preachers go wild!

(Do not, repeat do not, have a mouthful of coffee while watching this video.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Baptist pastors ranted, whooped, and stormed across the pulpit before a cheering crowd last week at a teen camp meeting.

The event took place April 11 at Middle Tennessee Baptist Church, where the fired-up pastors bellowed gibberish and ran into the crowd, where they slapped hands with the congregation.

Others chanted like auctioneers, danced jigs, or strutted around in exaggerated fashion, swinging their jackets over their heads.

WTF?

Okay I admit it, I simply will never understand religion.

Not gonna happen.

They are showing off for God. They each believe God will like them best.

  2. What America exports: Vids of interchangeable beer-bellied old balding white men with fat heads filled with nonsense & anger. And what's with the crossed forearms? Their way of saying fuck-you to sanity?

An old saying around these parts is that when a Baptist preacher leaves a house on a Sunday afternoon, he's either wiping his mouth (fried chicken grease) or zipping his pants (comforting a poor widow). The antics portrayed in the video are not only encouraged, but part of their training. Why do you think they all use the same inflection & hand gestures? (see Ted Cruz)

They look like they're doing the Nazi salute at times.

Those old farts never got to act up in public when they were kids; so they do it in church meeting so they can claim they're "inspired".

I had the pleasure of being seduced by two,yes two Baptist preachers daughters. When in the 8th grade. I was not a church member. That was 50+ years ago.
The preachers, pretty similar back then.

I agree completely with TheNastyLiberal at 6:49 AM. This is clearly not the Holy Spirit that is directing their actions: it is a spirit of self and a spirit of rebellion, clear and simple. The degree of irreverence for God's sanctuary is sickening. They are really like the prophets of Baal (when they competed with Elijah), described in I Kings Chapter 18 in the Old Testament, shouting and dancing with all their might at the altar and getting absolutely no heavenly results from their activities and idolatrous 'spiritual' efforts.

By the way, Baal was a god of fertility and male supremacy (GOP obsession with sex, reproduction, embryos, and female parts, much??). Baal was also the god of rain (GOP belief that only God, and not man, influences climate, much???).

  9. I will never understand why they don't just go to a mainstream church when they feel an attack coming on. Why go to a church to watch someone making a fool of himself? There's a basic decency about a solid Episcopalean, Lutheran or Presbyterian service. No whooping and hollering and flailing, but a tradition of service and compassion. Oh sure, sometimes, they now get all radical and offer a handshake of goodwill, but they try not to let it get crazy.

Yes - it IS possible to crank humans up into states of euphoria.
I've seen the same effect at rock concerts.
And films of crowds listening to Hitler.

You know, I was about to comment that I've seen a couple of these performances while visiting, and only visiting, an evangelical church. And my reaction was "This is not a religious service, this is a Nuremberg rally!"

I tried to watch the video, but it made my dogs cry. They are a good judge of character, so I turned it off.

  12. Looks like these disrespectful Baptist leaders figured out what Hitler learned -- that you can whip young people into a lather with hand signs and irreverent bellowing. Wondered if the background were jeers or cheers.

  13. Teen camp meeting? What? Where are the teens? Are they, like, dead from embarrassment in the back or something?

Just a bunch of heterosexuals enjoying simultaneous climaxing - what is with the guy at the end of the video, lifting up little man and shaking him up and down in his arms?

I'd like to know what they are hollering, I'll bet $$ it's anti-Obama BS.

All the divorced Baptist women who I've ever known, "had to get the divorce because their ex-husband's were drunks". It's the classic socially acceptable excuse for getting a divorce among Baptists. I know one who was married and divorced six times and each and everyone of her ex-husband's was supposedly a drunk. Last time I was around her and heard about her latest divorce, I said "maybe you shouldn't go to bars to meet men". She got all huffy. Stupid people.

I was thinking about how many µ grams they had been dosed with... Just a guess but I'd say 250 µ grams of LSD is probably in the ballpark...

I thought I was watching a convention of three stooges impersonators. What's with the crossed arms signals? However, if you REALLY want a dose of crazy like never before, the pentecostals got everyone beat. Bring popcorn and be prepared to laugh your ass off! Eyeballs roll back in their heads, spittle runs down their chins and they speak in tongues as they writhe in ecstasy or epileptic fits. The funny part is they think they're normal and the world is crazy.

"Yure not what ya used ta be."
"I was raised in a drunkardzome..."

A bunch of old masons seeking self-glory, and doing anything BUT glorifying the Lord. Ask yourself, if you were in need of a good Samaritan on the side of the road, are these old dudes what you'd want to have walking by? I guess you never know, but they just don't seem very caring to me. They seem caught up in themselves. It's not what you do when people are watching, it's what you do when they're not.
