Why did this story get run with these criminals’ school photos, where on the same day, same situation, the article of another group of burglars featured their mug shots?
Same day.
Same channel.
Same crime.
Same author.
So why weren’t mugshots good enough for the white guys who got arrested? Who already looks guilty before their trial? Which story plants the seed into a potential jury pool that this is a group of good kids versus this is a group of criminals?

As you can see the article about the white suspects now shows their mugshots, and not their yearbook pictures, but the screenshot up above shows it as it was originally published.
It is also worth noting that the three white suspects are described as "wrestlers" throughout the Gazette article, and not once as "suspects." As if this were simply a departure from their usual upstanding identities.
However the four black men are only described as "suspects."
But don't let this bother you because remember the Republican party has assured us that racism is dead.

DeleteI read somewhere that the Gazette's excuse for using the white men's yearbook photos was that it was too much trouble to request the mug shots. Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteNot only that, the article which showed the mugshots also noted their wrestling achievements (such as they may be) at great length. Color me unsurprised.

ReplyDeleteMy brother actually admitted a few years ago that when he and his buddies were in middle school---they used to go into stores to boost candy. The black kids would just walk around the store (and be followed closely by security) while the white ones stole the candy and were never busted. They knew what it was all about even then. Luckily this was the extent of their life of crime.
Says a lot----huh?

ReplyDeleteOne of my spouse's relatives moved to Iowa so he could raise his family around God-fearing white people. He's a MD who didn't like treating brown people where they used to live. No joke. If he's any indication of what the state is like, leave me out of it.
ReplyDeleteNothing surprises nor shocks me anymore, the racial bias in my local paper is bad enough, but this is beyond the pale.
