Courtesy of The Valedosta Daily Times:
A military veteran was detained but not charged by Valdosta State University police after she approached a group of protesters on campus who were walking on an American flag and took it from them.
Michelle Manhart, an Air Force veteran, said she was not planning to take the flag from the group, but she had heard about the group’s recent campus demonstrations and wanted to take action.
“I did not want anything like this, but I got a call from a student who told me that the flag was on the ground, and they were walking on it,” said Manhart. “I was just going over there to pick up the flag off the ground. I don’t know what their cause is, but I went to pick it up because it doesn’t deserve to be on the ground.”
Manhart said she was taken into custody by VSU police officers who then returned the flag to the demonstrators. She admitted to The Valdosta Daily Times that she resisted arrest after seeing the flag being returned.
The group reportedly declined to press charges against Manhart. The officers attempting to detain her also declined to press charges for resisting.
The minute I saw the video up above I thought, "publicity stunt."
And I think my instincts are probably right, because as it turns out this "military veteran" is also a former Playboy model.
She is already getting quite a bit of coverage, and I have little doubt that Fox News is reaching out to her right now.
Like I said I highly doubt that her response to the protesters was fueled by patriotism, but if somebody was offended by what they saw the proper thing to do would be to file a complaint or even respectfully express your feelings to the protesters themselves.
But stealing the flag from them and then fighting with the cops who are simply trying to defuse the situation is ridiculous.
But like I said it will play well with the Fox News crowd who will undoubtedly be sufficiently outraged.
(H/T to Raw Story.)
Update: Well it looks as it Manhart has a history of disrespecting the flag, and her uniform, as well:
Manhart, a sergeant in the Air Force at the time, appeared in Playboy in 2007, posing in uniform, out of uniform and while draped with the American flag. She was reprimanded and demoted and quit the military the next year.
Can you say "hypocrisy?"
I noticed she was wearing a black blouse with the shoulders cut out -- just like Sarah's!
ReplyDeletewhaddya wanna bet the crosseyed skank has manhurt front and center next to her in her next palin channel video ?
DeleteLMAO !
Poor Faux, they either have to denounce Sarah Palin walking on the flag with her flag whore shoes or let this one go.
ReplyDeleteDidn't see her protesting when George W. and Laura Bush stepped on a flag. http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/?p=229
ReplyDeleteOr when Sarah wears those idiotic shoes...or wrapped herself in a flag and perched on a desk for a Time cover.
Deleteyou're right , gryphen, this was a publicity stunt, and so transparent.....she came dressed for the part, and was putting her hand in her crotch to keep them from reaching down there to get it to put it behind her back. I dislike her ....instantly.....I have no respect for a media whore.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, the idea that Valdosta is a left-wing hotbed of hippie flag abusers just...doesn't...pass the smell test. Anybody want to bet the whole thing was scripted?
ReplyDeleteTom, in FL
I'm with you, Tom in FL - that is a hotbed of rightwing faux fundies. And racists, also, too. Did I mention that? That town is corrupt through and through.

Air Force vet banned from Ga. college for taking flag from protesters
http://www.ajc.com/news/news/air-force-vet-banned-from-ga-college-for-taking-fl/nkx6r/
From the images in this article, it seems there was a racist element to the whole event.
ReplyDelete...'I was just going over there to pick up the flag off the ground. I don’t know what their cause is, but I went to pick it up because it doesn’t deserve to be on the ground.'
She continued: 'If your cause is racism then find some white people and walk on them.
'But to walk on the flag is walking on our symbol of freedom. You have the freedom to do what you are doing because of it. I’m not fighting against them. I’m fighting against the way they are going about it.'
It is not clear what the demonstrators were rallying against. They did not answer reporters' questions about what their cause was.

"The American President" (1995)
ReplyDeleteAmerica isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You've gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours." You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms.
Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free.
Gee, I hope she has written to the Palins to express her disgust with the flag shoes, the flag bracelet, and the flag shirts that are a far more offensive (and against the flag code) use of the flag image, wouldn't you say, Playgirl?
ReplyDeleteShe looks more like Penthouse material.
ReplyDeleteAl Goldstein material for sure. He would have increased her fame and fortune by having her occupied in some way with that flag.
DeleteMore like "The shoppers at Wal Mart"
DeleteWho taped the video?
ReplyDeletedowl
Sounds like she had a friend with her to tape the whole thing because she asks her at the end if she "got all that" as she's suddenly decides to let them have the flag. This whole incident was instigated by her for her next likely move - a GOFUNDME page in 1-2-3...
DeleteShe's wicked with a selfie stick, I hear.
DeleteOMG What a fruitcake. she got away with dissing cops. If it were a person of color he/she would had been zapped, head would had been smashed, a choke hold for good measures and probably shot like piece of shit.
ReplyDeleteThey treated this crazy lady as a child, excuse me, a white child.
About like the white man the other day that murdered his girlfriend, encounters cop, ignores orders to raise hands, advances toward cop with his hand in his pocket screaming "Shoot me! Shoot me!" - AND LIVES!!
DeleteCop receives kudos for not justifiably shooting said man.
One of the privileges of being white in America.
Exactly what I was about to write, GOL.
DeleteShe certainly showed no respect for her trousers, letting them drag on the ground like that. Shameful.
ReplyDeleteHere is the hero respecting the flag.

She is a white trash media whore just like Palin.
ReplyDeleteA logical chain of events....
ReplyDelete1. Barstool invites her to wedding..."for murica"
2. Barstool catches "The Duh" banging her in a car during reception
3. Barstool asks "my mom" for advice. Gov Skidmark inquiries if there is a sex tape to market(?) Barstool answers..."no."
4. Barstool exits KY ASAP, forgets Tripp.
If President Obama didn't give him the medal, she'd still be single, did she write a letter to POTUS thanking him for giving the MOH?
