Four of the six Christian homeschooled brothers who molested their younger sister for a decade plead guilty.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Four homeschooled brothers pleaded guilty Thursday to molesting their younger sister from the time she was 4 years old until she was almost 15 – and their parents and two other brothers still face charges related to the case.

The oldest brother confessed in December 2012 to molesting the girl after becoming a born-again Christian, and a pastor from the Baptist church in Wake Forest, North Carolina, contacted authorities the following day.

“He confided in his pastor and his pastor told him that was wrong and not the way normal families are,” said Perquimans County Sheriff Eric Tilley.

Eric Jackson, then 25, told authorities that he and all five of his brothers had sexually abused their younger sister for a decade, and authorities say their parents knew but did nothing to stop the abuse.

An elder at Hope Baptist Church, which Jackson and another brother attended, compared the pattern of abuse to other “horrible” sins such as adultery and homosexuality.

“If Jesus had not saved Eric, perhaps the devastating culture of this family could have continued, even to more generations,” wrote elder Scott Brown. “But the gospel transforms and shines light in dark places. Jesus was the source of light that caused things to be brought into the light.”

So Jesus could bring things to light after the fact but could do nothing to prevent this child's abuse?

Not a terribly impressive deity is he?

Still I am going to give this pastor some credit for not helping to hide the secret as the Duggar family's religious advisers seem to have done.

However in this case just like the last, it is the parents who most deserve our disgust.

They knew about this and did nothing to protect their children, both the molesters who will now serve time in jail for their offenses, and the molested who will serve a life sentence in a prison from which there is not parole.

Gee two different Christian homeschooled families, kept apart from their contemporaries, and now revealed to have serious episodes of incest and sexual abuse.

Anybody else noticing a pattern?

  3. I simply don't have words to describe how I feel about this story. Even swearing would not be helpful :( That poor little girl. I even have some empathy, not much, for the brothers as I believe that they truly did not understand this to be wrong since their parents obviously endorsed it. The parents should be in jail; the brothers should have counseling as well as the daughter/sister. What a horribly dysfunctional family! This would not have happened if the family was not so insular.

Christians say they are being prosecuted and oppressed. Up until now they have not been, but I think that it is time that they are. They hide behind "Jesus will forgive me" and think that makes everything alright. I'm soooo disgusted with that cult of assholes. ~Rea

They should be prosecuted. Numbers are dropping considerably in the US as to folks calling themselves 'christians'! As it should be!

That's one hell of a statement. Good and bad come in all walks of life. While I am not a Christian, I know many wonderful people of all religions. I am proud to know them. You're as rigid in your thinking as any religious zealot.

    3. Well, I guess Phillip Berrigan is still alive. Daniel Berrigan, Thomas Merton and Pete Seeger are dead. So no, I can't think of a single Christian I respect.

"You're as rigid in your thinking as any religious zealot." Except my thinking is not based on any religion. It is based on knowing the difference between right and wrong. I suppose that could seem rigid to cult members who want to make excuses for their members when they are the ones doing the wrong.~Rea

Just checked Liz. Seeger was unitarian universalist formally. At some time an atheist. But claimed to feeloat spiritual when in the woods. Please don'talign the dead by ascribing to them that which they did not espouse or embrace.it's what the christianists try to do to the founding Fathers.

Their poor little sister! Cannot imagine what she went through and fear for how she is handling her world today. No help from her parents? That is the worst part!

The entire family is a friggin' mess! Mine was too, but not to that degree! My heart and best thoughts go out to the girl. I so hope she is getting the care she needs.

Christians and home schooling - both such negatives!

Please reread...think you are mixing this story up with the other religious family that is on TV - Duggars? Think that is their last name! He abused more than one sister in his family and they are taking their family show off TV which well they should!

Just wanted to point out that I read the source article and it didn't say the family homeschooled their children because of Christianity--it sounded like the father was a whack job all around. This entire story became known when the oldest brother joined a Christian church, so whether Jesus is real or not, Jesus was the reason we learned about it.

"So, again, did they know? Because we’d hate to think they did, and just decided to hope against hope that nobody ever found out (capital letters are Wonkette's).

"And if so, when did they know about Mama June’s child-rapey boyfriend? AND WHAT ARE THEY HIDING ABOUT THE PALINS?"

Many already suspect incest within the Heath family - specifically ole Chuckie boy! We know that Chuckie Jr. likes young ones because he got involved with one when a teacher - left his wife and married the young one who was pregnant.

So much about the Heath/Palin clan to talk about....wonder why the press doesn't investigate them more and publish their dirt?

Two families aren't statistically significant nor is it a pattern. Certainly, there are good Christian people who do a great job home schooling their children and raising them as there are sexually deviant non-Christian families who home school and sexually deviant non-Christian families who don't home school. You have unfairly portrayed all Christian home schooling parents as having sexual deviancy in their families.

    1. To me, all "Christian home schooling" is by definition deluded.

The examples I've seen I'd characterize as child abuse.

I would not be surprised if their is a higher incidence of sexual abuse in Christian home schooled families than in all families.

But admittedly, I have now lost patience with all Christians as there are virtually no Christians denouncing the hateful and hate-filled actions of the Christian right. I don't care if they practice their religion but stop trying to deny my rights because of their delusions.

I found the "E News" reporting of the story to be very troubling. Lots of sad faces, not outrage, as they told the story. Poor Duggars, they might lose their television show - that seemed to be the message. And Josh was said to work for the Family Research Council, a "non-profit" in Washington. In fact, it is a lobbying body for faux-Christian fundamentalists and anti-gay propaganda.

Authorities say that the school’s administrator, Joan Dayton, knowingly employed a man convicted of two counts of sexual offenses against an 8-year-old child. Paul Leroy Connor was convicted of “taking sexual liberties with” and committing a sexual offense against the child in 2001. He served two years in prison and is barred under state law from being on school property.

The investigation revealed that Dayton knew of the conviction, and willfully hired Connor, in spite of it.

A former teacher discovered Connor’s status as a registered sex offender, while preparing to teach a lesson to students on safety. When performing a routine sex offender search, Connor’s picture came up. She went to Dayton, along with other school officials.

In an email sent in February, Dayton confirmed to the teacher that she was aware of Connor’s conviction, saying, “Yes, it’s a long story they obviously don’t want out.”

After being informed that it was against state law to allow Connor on school property, Dayton reportedly said:

“I don’t care. It doesn’t matter. He is a reformed man. I know him personally.”

She is also quoted in documents, reviewed by the Fayetteville Observer, as saying:

“This is my school. I’m in charge here and I can do whatever I want.”

Dayton later instructed the teacher to stop teaching students how to look up sex offenders online, saying:

One of the problems with homeschooling is that children, especially girls, do not learn that certain kinds of touching are wrong. In some families, I fear, they are instructed by their parents (in the guise of teachers) that men or older boys are always to be submitted to. The Duggar guy keeps insisted that he never kissed his wife before he married her. That fact does not nullify the fact that he "messed around" with his younger sisters and at least one girl not from their family. People who do not learn how to live in society get some very peculiar ideas.

Actually, it was a man who shone a light on this darkness. If Jesus were going to do anything about it, I suspect he would have struck them dead in their tracks decades ago.
