Girl Scouts openly accept transgendered children. Just another reason why the Girl Scouts are far superior to the Boy Scouts these days.

This from the FAQ page of Girl Scouts.org:

Q: What is Girl Scouts' position on serving transgender youth?

A: Girl Scouts is proud to be the premiere leadership organization for girls in the country. Placement of transgender youth is handled on a case-by-case basis, with the welfare and best interests of the child and the members of the troop/group in question a top priority. That said, if the child is recognized by the family and school/community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, then Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe.

Well that is certainly light years away from the homophobic attitudes expressed by the Boy Scouts, now isn't it?

I also found this on the FAQ page:

Q: Does Girl Scouting support families of faith? A: Yes. Girl Scouting supports girls from all backgrounds and beliefs. While we are a secular organization that refrains from teaching religious or spiritual beliefs or practices, we believe that the motivating force in Girl Scouting is a spiritual one, and we greatly value our longstanding partnerships with religious organizations across many faiths that share the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Damn, I may have to buy extra boxes of thin mints this next time around.

Did you know that United Way does NOT support Girls Scouts, but does allocate money to the Boy Scouts? The reason? Because Girl Scouts are not openly and exclusively Christian. This has been going for decades, and United Way does not budge from their only-for-Christians stance. I don't give to them.

    1. I don't contribute to United Way (among others) either.

  3. This has never been surprising. Have you ever met a homophobe that was nevertheless a feminist?

Lesbianism has never raised the same apoplectic rage in these groups as gay men do precisely because of their pre-established, basic devaluation of women of any stripe. When a sex object is behaving like a sex object with another sex object, how worked up are you gonna get?

No, don't you know it is the mental image of a penis in a male rectum that is the sure sign that the Four Horsemen are nigh?

I've been concerned that Girl Scout cookies have literally disappeared around here. While there are no school age children in the neighborhood now and that explains some of it, you used to be able to find tables at local supermarkets and stores like K-Mart during cookie season. Probably better for our health but we always enjoyed our box a year of mint, samoas, shortbread and peanut butter cookies.

They're made by a company called "Clover Valley" available in Dollar General all year round, for much much cheaper prices.

  6. This is the only reason I buy Girl Scout cookies now (and I told them this year.) The cookies have become intensely over priced. I only buy one box of thin mints now to support them because of their inclusion policies and practices.

  7. The LDS church has basically taken over the Boy Scouts, hence the views on the gay. Girls don't count with them so who cares about the Girl Scout. I have seen what happens to LDS women and it ain't pretty. Now the United Way??? New one to me.

Beaglemom, you can find out where to get them online. The kiddos here are nervous about going door to door any more.

And Gryph, go for the shortbread ones. No transfats!

Most often, those most afraid of homosexuality are struggling with their own homosexual tendencies.
Those of us secure in our own gender identity don't usually have a problem with "teh gays'.

    And that's a fact.

I'm glad to hear that transgendered youth are accepted by the girl scouts, I'm glad whenever LGBT folks are treated equally by society. It's a tough enough journey without love, acceptance and support. What drives the bigots to madness is ignorance and fear.
