Seymour Hersh's explosive expose on the truth behind the death of Osama Bin Laden, is apparently not terribly explosive and a little light on truth.

So the other day this story by Seymour Hersh was published revealing that almost everything that we know about the raid which killed Osama Bin Laden was false.

I read through it and considered doing a write up, but I stopped myself because there were parts of it that I found a little hard to swallow.

So instead I decided to wait until other news outlets started to weigh in, realizing that they would have access to data and resources that I simply do not have.

As expected they were less than convinced by Hersh's report as well.

Here is what Vox had to say:

Hersh's story is amazing to read, alleging a vast American-Pakistani conspiracy to stage the raid and even to fake high-level diplomatic incidents as a sort of cover. But his allegations are largely supported only by two sources, neither of whom has direct knowledge of what happened, both of whom are retired, and one of whom is anonymous.

The story is riven with internal contradictions and inconsistencies. The story simply does not hold up to scrutiny — and, sadly, is in line with Hersh's recent turn away from the investigative reporting that made him famous into unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.

Vox goes on to pick apart much of what Hersh wrote, and compares it with eyewitness accounts and reports from journalists who visited the scene in Pakistan.

And they are not alone.

Former CIA Chief Leon Panetta denies the veracity of Hersh's account, as does the White House.

Of course that is to be expected.

However the soldier who actually shot Bin Laden in that raid calls the report "an insult to the word ludicrous."

Look Seymour Hersh is a legend whose reporting has revealed incredibly important stories that the government certainly did not want revealed, like the My Lai massacre during the Vietnam War, and  the torture of prisoners at Abu Ghraib in Baghdad.

And I personally I have no problem believing that the story of Bin Laden's death is not precisely as it has been told to the American public.

However it seems that Hersh may have allowed his frustration with how the Obama administration has conducted foreign relations get the better of him this time.

I wouldn't take Panetta's word if you served it up with tea and crumpets.

THIS time? He's been spouting conspiracy theories for eons just to get some badly needed attention. He shot his wad with Mai Lai and has been riding that fame for decades. His retirement can't come soon enough.

Something happened to Seymour Hersh and it is a shame. Maybe fame went to his head and he decided that fiction was more lucrative than fact. At any rate, he seems to be of the Glen Grenwald school of faux-journalism today. I discount what he writes completely.

I gave the matter a cursory glance when this thing first broke last week. The book appeared a lot like that Schweitzer dude's hit piece on Hillary: a lot of claims and accusations and not a single one of them backed up with evidence.

I'm fed up with these idiots trying to tell us that only they know the truth.... but they can only reveal it for money.

The article on vox.com references an event where Seymour Hersh maintained that the US Armed Forces are all members of Opus Dei and aim to spread Christianity to Islamic countries. After reading that I knew that Seymour Hersh is no longer the man he used to be. The article by Max Fisher is a must-read:

As with many things there are bits of truth and confusion. At the time of 9-11 Bin Laden was a very sick man in need of kidney dialysis. It was speculated he died from kidney failure. What if there was a Bin Laden look alike. The repugs neded a boogeyman . Our president may ir might not know the truth.. But it is good for him to have him killed of course. I do renember reading on internet 9-11 truth sites that bin kaden died in a cave from kidney dailure. Anything is possible.

7:00 is correct. Bin Laden death notice and burial notice came out in December 2001. All subsequent videos of him were not him, but fakes. He had denied all involvement in the false flag events of Sept. 11, 2001. Nearly all members of the SEAL time that allegedly took him out died in a mysterious helicopter crash.

I don't believe Hersh's article is accurate either.

George W Bush and Dick showed film of Hussein's two dead sons and used them as a trophy. A huge no no in Islam. Displaying two corpses in an "air conditioned" tent is an affront to their culture. As if that wasn't bad enough, they defended waterboarding and allowed the footage of Saddam's hanging, basically sticking a pole in the eyes of the Islamic world,
Obama did none of that, in fact he bent over backwards to make sure the burial at sea was ok with Islamic Tradition,
Hirsch may write whatever he wants, but it amounts to weak tea by comparison. I didn't read the article because I know where his bias lies. We had an eight year endless war with no count of innocent civillians aka collateral damage it took GWB to not capture and kill Osama Bin Ladin. And not to mention our own dead.
And senile rummie says "every one of them raised their hands and said choose me" and "we have known knowns and unknown knowns and unknown unknowns........." My only regret was Obama never put them up for war crimes.

  11. Add The New York Times to the list of news agencies backing aspects of Seymour Hersh’s blockbuster expose on the killing of Osama bin Laden. Carlotta Gall writes for the upcoming issue of their Sunday magazine:

It seems people here are unwilling to investigate the OBL story completely. I posted numerous links showing that he died in 2001 and could not have been killed in any raid, and now below a timeline with solid links to sources and information that indicates OBL died in December 2001, and that this fact was well known in the intelligence world from as early as 2002. Do I need to post them again? Still people are considering that the MSM account is true, or that Seymour Hersh's new account is true, when neither are.
