If this is not a real quote it ought to be.

I saw this graphic the other day and I loved it.

However I have not yet been able to confirm that Nye said this, even though this image shows up at several places on the internet.

Oh well, like I said in my headline, if Bill Nye did not say this he certainly should.

Update: Okay I found the source. It is from an article ABOUT Bill Nye.

It appears that it is not a direct quote from Nye, but rather an opinion expressed by the author of the piece.

Still I think it is certainly something Bill Nye SHOULD say.

  1. I love Nye too, and yes this is exactly the kind of fire-in-the-belly rhetoric we need from evolution spokesmen. The more no-more-bullshit, Clint Eastwood-personas they can summon, the better. Ignorance always goes down swinging, doesn't it?

Hi Gryphen! If Mr. Nye made this statement, it is a spot-on assessment. When narrow and closed-minded morons and simpletons like palin are allowed to spread unintelligible bullshit and lies that are accepted as truth by those who are ignorant of facts, this is the end result. It reflects negatively on the majority of the populace who do possess a modicum of intelligence. Unfortunately, Mr. Nye is correct; because of the anti-intellectualism that is prevalent as a result of this condoned ignorance, the U.S. is viewed as the laughingstock of the planet. That is a real fuckin' shame.

and...these willful ignorants vote, in droves. Why don't liberals? If a repug gets to be President, the world will wash their hands of 'merica. And rightly so.

Barstool must be home if she's tweeting for her followers to read her blog. Or it shows she has a ghostwriter to write for her blog for her while she's traveling.

Searched three of the collections of Mr. Nye, it doesn't show up in any of them. Perhaps one of these days he'll officially disown it. But it until then, I love it1

I actually wish he really said it. The only way to get rid of the notion that this is a christian nation is to get people to speak up. The problem is that so few who need it would listen. They're brainwashed from a young age, and it's reinforced by repetitive reading of the book, fear of hellfire and brimstone in "the next life" and believing in a god who forgives everyone automatically, IF they accept Jesus ....... blah blah blah" Everyone knows the spiel.
My kids used to love watching "Bill Nye the Science Guy" he spoke to them on their level and never lied to them, much like my fave christian, Fred Rogers.

  7. Ok, I just have to weigh in here because i personally believe in a middle ground. As many of you feel strongly about your views on religion and I have no argument there, some of the comments seem to lean towards the other extreme.

People like Palin use the old standby talking points - heaven and hell, gays are evil, abortion is muder, God, troops, family, flags and all the others.

As much as I loathe Palin and the fakery she represents, I avoid the urge to ridicule those who still believe in those stories because it makes me just as rigid and self righteous as they are.

If we could find ways to demand separation of church and state regardless of what religion is the flavor of the day - other nations wouldn't have a reason to scoff at us.

There will always be another Palin out there. Even the most well intentioned among us still get a bit squeamish over the thought of our dollar bills no longer being printed with "In God we Trust". But, it's overdue.

For the record, I believe in a power greater than myself and I feel the presence within me. I respect your right to disagree and I also respect your choices - I have NO desire to recruit others to my personal spiritual beliefs.
