Boy Scouts of America change rules to allow gay scout leaders for the first time.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

The Boy Scouts of America Executive Committee unanimously approved allowing gay adults to serve as leaders, officials said on Monday, in a major step toward dismantling a policy that has caused deep rifts in the 105-year-old organization.

The group’s National Executive Board will meet to ratify the resolution on July 27, the Boy Scouts said in a statement.

“This resolution will allow chartered organizations to select adult leaders without regard to sexual orientation, continuing Scouting’s longstanding policy of chartered organizations selecting their leaders,” it said.

The resolution approved by the Executive Committee on Friday follows a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in June to allow same-sex marriage nationwide and a call in May from the Boy Scouts president, former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who said the ban on gay leadership needed to change.

The Boy Scouts said in the statement the move reflected “the rapid changes in society and increasing legal challenges at the federal, state and local levels.”

Man I tell you every day seems to make this country just that much more progressive.

  1. Is there an explosion in Spokane?

If so, it's my former brother-in-law, and I say, GREAT!

Possibly the most intolerant man I ever had the misfortune to meet. When the first out gay Eagle Scout attains that rank, expect another explosion if there's anything left in the ex-BIL's brainpan...

New video from Sarah, Gryphen. Just followed the link on one of the C4P commenters and had no trouble getting to it.

The Proper View of the Presidency

Thomas Jefferson, America's third President, left specific instructions on what his epitaph should say. It did not include the title of "President of the United States." As Governor Palin explains, this is a clear reminder of how our Founding Fathers perceived the role of government in their lives.

And this guy is a regular at C4P and oh good lord, he is in such delusional about a Sarah Palin presidential run being imminent, that he's just about certifiable. He's one that's gonna really get crushed when she doesn't run.

The prestige of the Girl Scouts grew dramatically in the face of right-wing nastiness over the past decade or so. Maybe the Boy Scouts are just trying to catch up. If so, good for them.

    O/T
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would bring much-needed dignity to the 2016 Republican field, a new poll shows.

According to the poll, conducted by the University of Minnesota’s Opinion Research Institute, Palin’s ability to articulate her positions on issues with precision and restraint is sorely lacking among other entrants in the G.O.P. race.

Additionally, voters said that the former governor’s breadth of knowledge in the fields of economics, foreign affairs, and American history would place her head and shoulders above the current crop of Republican hopefuls.

In the words of one voter who was surveyed, “When I hear some of these candidates talk, I sure do miss Sarah Palin.”

Despite the overwhelming sense that she would contribute gravitas and intellectual rigor that have been woefully missing from the G.O.P. contest, a Palin candidacy appears unlikely, a spokesman said.

“Governor Palin is very flattered by this poll, but she is concerned that being associated with this field of candidates could harm her stature,” he said.

It would be nice if the move reflected a realization of the fact that being gay has nothing to do with sexual attraction to children.

A little late, but good for them if they're sincere. Now the Webeloes can learn from Scout Leaders who know a thing or two about how to deal with emotions, bullies, bigotry, peer pressure and hate from Scout Leaders who've lived it.
Better late than never, but it'll take awhile to catch up with the Girl Scouts.

Sodomy is not a Scout value. The Hershey Highway is not a playground. Friends don't let friends get sodomized.
