I don't know if this has ever been more timely than it is today.

Or to couch it in more modern terms my right to bear arms trumps your right to live.

Sad but true, with the current Republican coterie of candidates perfectly exemplifying this statement. Religion should get a nod for its share of this proud American ignorance too.

    My favorite quotes of his:

"The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom." And....

"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

The last one is my all time favorite quote from anyone!

I adored reading anything the man had published that was fiction. I'll not claim to have read his other books, since my brain wasn't even in the same galaxy as his!

OT Sarah is having a BIG orgasm this morning. She has been NOTICED!.

Front page of CNN's website posted her blog comments about ESPN suspending Curt Shilling for his Nazi tweet.

And to think, all progressives have to do is vote them out of office at the same time every time.

The celebrated embrace of ignorance is stunning as well as the constant complaining, random and inconsistent actions, and downright laziness of the progressive and democratic voter. It makes me sick to my stomach that we collectively wait until EVERYTHING is at the brink of destruction and loss before we enable change. Our worst habit is in our approach to problem solving. We complain about serious issues but only create cosmetic solutions. We enabled a movement to get rid of the Confederate flag but where are the follow-up actions to eliminate gerrymandering, voter suppression, and registering people to vote? It's like we act only once thinking a problem solved does not need constant maintenance, thus allowing those with ill intent to integrate and intertwine themselves back into positions of authority and mass manipulation or ignore our progress completely.

People fear having a one party rule, but the Democrats have shown their distinct inability to have just one voice, one mission, so there will always be a mixed bag of nuts represented. The best thing, however, is they consistently prove that they strive to protect interests for the greatest amount of diversity and color of thought to benefit the majority of people and what's best for the prosperity of this country.

When are we going to maximize our strengths and create our own media and social network that leverages what Jon Stewart created to serve as our source for news and advocacy and not just cynicism and comedy? My hope is that Mr. Stewart uses his new position with Huffington Post Live includes a platform that provide instructions year round on how to mobilize and collectively make change year round. You know, the way FOX news and the Republicans successfully do it.

Sorry for the rant. Ignorance plus inaction to remedy and/or counter it really bothers me.

Your point about maintenance is so true. The band-aid approach to problems that are deep seated is almost worse than the original problem. And lip service is pretty condescending in the long run.

Alaskan Lawmakers Sue To Take Away People’s Health Care, Send $450,000 Legal Bill To Taxpayers

Low income people in Alaska are on the verge of getting health care. So, in a story that’s become so familiar that it’s practically a cliché, Republican elected officials filed a lawsuit on Monday trying to prevent this expanded access to health care from happening.

As a bonus, they’re sending the bill for this lawsuit to the state’s taxpayers.

As a foreigner who went to college in the U.S. I think part of the root of that problem is that students are asked to give their opinion in essays. The opinion of a mostly uninformed student is not very important, but over time it makes people become opinionated. in France, nobody cares about what you think but they care about how you think. In essays students are asked to give the pros and cons of both the FOR and AGAINST view of the proposition, only in the conclusion is the opinion asked after the student has demonstrated a complete understanding of the issue.
