Fox News host Shep Smith says something reasonable about the Kim Davis rally, immediately gets attacked by Right Wing.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

“They set this up as a religious play again,” he said. “This is the same crowd that says, ‘We don’t want Sharia law, don’t let them tell us what to do, keep their religion out of our lives and out of our government.’ Well, here we go again.”

“When this started, this lawyer said he needed an accommodation for a woman who wanted one. She said she didn’t want her name on a license for gay people,” Smith said. “Now they’ve come up with one, they’ve let her out of jail… But it’s not what they want.”

“This is what they want, what you’re hearing now and this what they’re going to get: stirred up argument and a couple of days in the news cycle, and they’re going to be able to make these claims.”

Smith argued the Supreme Court had already ruled on the issue of gay marriage, and the issued was settled. “This is not unprecedented. They did it when they said black and white people couldn’t marry.”

Well that is an acute observation.

Which means it cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged.

This courtesy of The Right Scoop:

What a puke. Christians simply want for the government to stay out of our Christian beliefs instead of imprisoning us when our beliefs go against the invented rights of a lawless Supreme Court. And then he calls us hypocrites for not wanting Muslim theocracy in our country, suggesting we want to push our Christian values on the government? Does he know anything about how this country was founded? Has he ever read the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence? What an idiot.

Yeah what an idiot.

What an idiot for saying something pretty damn obvious.

What an idiot for pointing out the historical perspective in all of this.

And what an idiot for staying on Fox News.

Seriously Shep, WTF?

Is Roger Ailes holding your family hostage? Does he have incriminating pictures of you? What could possibly keep you at a cable news station with an ideological viewpoint that you clearly do not share?

I just don't get it.

She's got quite a racket going down there in Kentucky:

Kim Davis was overpaid as a deputy clerk, barely won a primary election — and then hired her 21-year-old son

  5. Yeah, what an idiot, His argument reminds me of the old commercial for Reese's "You got your peanut butter in my chocolate. No you got your chocolate in my peanut butter". It's really simple - you don't want the government in your religion, then keep your religion out of the government. Deal? And I think he's the one who needs to read the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. But when he does, he can't cherry pick the parts he likes and discard those parts he doesn't like - you know, how I'm sure he does when (if) he reads the Bible.

Writing for GOPUSA, Cliff Kincaid called Smith’s comments evidence of “anti-Christian bias that has been rearing its ugly head” on Fox News.

He was surprised to see Fox “break its promise to air ‘fair and balanced’ coverage of the issue by permitting Smith to take such a crude stand against Davis,” and said Smith doesn’t know the difference between Christianity and Islam.

“Smith seems not to understand the difference between Christianity, a foundation of the American system that protects religious rights and liberty, and Islam, an authoritarian religion which wants to impose its values on others,” Kincaid writes.

I seriously wish everytime one of these morons brings up our founding fathers blah blah, someone would give them a copy of a history book where it explains how our founding fathers came to this country to avoid religious persecution, hence the separation of church and state.

I always loved watching Shep Smith because he's got an honest tone and it's obvious he doesn't belong on the "Unfair and Unbalanced" channel. The money must be real good.

I agree with Shep. IMO, Davis should have resigned. She can resign with her conscience clear, or she can try to FORCE her beliefs on others, by creating a scene and letting her lawyer and his anti-gay associates USE her. What kind of witness is that?

I know about these apostolic christians; many are decent, don't judge and are very good loving people. However, some are very legalistic; they use a 1Corinthian guideline and OT guidelines in propriety and dress. Women are not allowed to wear pants, nor cut, color their hair, nor wear jewelery, or makeup, which is considered adorning oneself with worldly things and appearing immodest. They take some verses out of context with hair, and believe a woman's hair is her glory and should never be cut, similar to Samson, whose power was in his uncut hair, and once cut, he lost his strength and power. It is a type of Nazarene vow.

However, some of these people don't seem too worried about condemning and judging others, at the expense of taxpayers and at the expense of gaining their 15 minutes of fame, and acting like religious dangerous zealots, who demand others live their way or the highway.

I wonder if the woman every issued a marriage license for anyone married 3 or 4 times, like herself? Scripture in the NT says, in the words of Jesus himself, that remarrying while the ex-spouse is still living is considered adultery. Of course, Davis would say "I'm forgiven". Yet Jesus would say, then go back to your first husband. But, the woman at the well was forgiven by Jesus even though she had 5 husbands, therefore, a christian MUST take that forgiveness and share it with others.

Mike Huckabee To Offer Kim Davis New ‘Secretary Of Christianity’ Cabinet Role

..."Governor Huckabee is prepared to offer Ms. Davis a once in a lifetime role in his cabinet," one Huckabee aide told us under condition of anonymity and a paid Ashley Madison account, telling us she'd be the new "Secretary of Christianity" and Davis would "oversee all things of and pertaining to Christianity in America." Though his critics might be quick to point out that this new cabinet position sounds an awful lot like an official religious position, which would violate not only the spirit but the intent of the First Amendment's text barring officially sanctioned religious activities, our Huckabee source told us, "the Governor is not concerned because unlike when a Democrat does it, when Republicans sign executive orders and act like imperial kings, it's only with the best interests of the plebes - sorry, citizens."

Effort To Kill The Iran Deal Dies In The Senate

    UPDATE: Sept. 10, 2015, 4:34 PM EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Democrats voted to uphold the hard-fought nuclear accord with Iran on Thursday, overcoming ferocious GOP opposition and delivering President Barack Obama a legacy-making victory on his top foreign policy priority.

A disapproval resolution for the agreement fell two votes short of the 60 needed to move forward as Democratic and independent senators banded together against it. Although House Republicans continued to pursue eleventh-hour strategies to derail the international accord, the outcome in the Senate guaranteed that the disapproval legislation would not reach Obama's desk.

As a result the nuclear deal will move forward unchecked by Congress, an improbable win by Obama in the face of unanimous opposition from Republicans who control Capitol Hill, GOP candidates seeking to replace him in the Oval Office and the state of Israel and its allied lobbyists in the U.S.

Beginning next week, Obama will be free to start scaling back U.S. sanctions to implement the agreement negotiated by Iran, the U.S. and five other world powers. The accord aims to constrain Iran's nuclear ambitions in exchange for hundreds of billions of dollars in relief from international sanctions.

Shep is the exception that proves the rule. He is Ailes' wafer-thin veneer of "fair and balanced".

The thing that interests me the most about all of this is that nowhere in the bible does it say there are mortal penalities for baking a gay person a cake or rubber-stamping a legal document for them.

WHEN are we finally going to see logic and rationality push back on these idiots and require some sort of verifiable legal standard of proof for "deeply held religious convictions"?

This is all about their own salvation. They think what other people do might interfere with their salvation. Forget free will and each person being responsible for saving his own bacon in the eyes of the lord. They think when they get to the pearly gates that God will say " well, you didn't do enough to stop teh gay, the abortions, the fornicators, etc., so you don't get into heaven." That's why they're so fanatical and busybody-ish about some of these issues. How they pick which "sins" to insert themselves into, I don't know.

    2. the exception that proves the rule

FWIW: That's "prove" as in "proving ground" where they test artillery pieces, missiles, etc. Exceptions are proving grounds for rules. Whether it's missiles or rules, some of them turn out to be duds.

Not saying anything about Shep one way or the other, btw; I haven't seen enough of his material.

    3. Boscoe8:59 PM

I... have no idea how artillery factors into this. ;) I was invoking the general colloquial use of the phrase, as explained thusly by Wikipedia:

"The exception that proves the rule" is an exception to a generally accepted truth.

"The exception [that] proves the rule" also means that the presence of an exception applying to a specific case establishes ("proves") that a general rule exists. For example, a sign that says "parking prohibited on Sundays" (the exception) "proves" that parking is allowed on the other six days of the week (the rule).

So, in this case: Shep being a reasonable human being on Fox is the exception that proves all those other chumps are morons. :)

      Delete
    4. I... have no idea how artillery factors into this.

In modern language, its the exceptions that test the rule. Try looking up edge case or corner case.

Artillery is tested on a physical proving ground. Rules are tested on a virtual proving ground, against the challenges posed by exceptions.

From the Merriam-Webster Third New International Dictionary Unabridged, page 1826: prove vb 2 a: to test the quality of : try out <prove all things; hold fast that which is good --1 Thess 5:21 (AV)> b : to subject to a technical testing process : ascertain (as by analysis or experiment) conformity with a standard or with stipulated requirements …

What Kim Davis and the people who support her do not choose to grasp--is that she is "the government" in these scenarios. She is the oppressor denying people their rights and their freedom. The people looking for marriage licenses want the government out of their lives.

But then, the Kim Davis crowd are not looking for an accommodation. They're looking to change law by refusing, as the Government, to comply with it.
