Has it been seven years already?

Courtesy of The Decider:

The great thing about the sketch that Fey and Amy Poehler delivered in the season premiere wasn’t just that it lived up to the hype (and think about that for a second: this sketch was so inevitable that there was hype for it) but that they did so much more than they could’ve gotten away with. Honestly, if they’d just trotted out to the stage, walked Tina through some easy punchlines about moose and Wasila (“Alaska’s crystal meth capital” is still how I think of that city, for better or worse, probably worse), the sketch would have killed. But pairing Palin with Poehler’s Hillary Clinton — something that wasn’t exactly intuitive, as Clinton had largely exited the political conversation by this point — was an act of pure genius.

Suddenly, the sketch wasn’t just about putting all of Palin’s absurdities on display. It was also about sexism and ageism and double standards and the media’s fascination with sideshows over substance. In a very real way, it set a tone for Hillary just as effectively as it set a tone for Palin. In Poehler’s hands, Clinton was driven, overly intense, and unable to accept defeat, but she was also righteous. By the time she got to the part about offering to lend the media her balls, the audience was whooping their approval.

I still remember seeing this skit for the first time, exactly seven years go today, and realizing that Sarah Palin's chances of ever even get close to the White House had just taken a critical hit.

Because now EVERYBODY saw her as a joke.

I was blogging about Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, and the presidential campaigns everyday. And all of the sudden here came SNL, not only providing awesome material, but making the whole thing fun again.

America owes Tina Fey a debt of gratitude, and the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Every time I see that video -- just the freeze frame -- it makes me smile. My brain starts to chuckle a little too.

The only reason McCain suspended his campaign was to hide Palin from the media when she fell apart.

It's amazing how Tina Fey had Sarah pegged with that line about how she, Sarah Palin, was closer to the White House than Hillary.

    Nailed Sarah's shallow, hateful person.

What is with all the "Bristol goes to Vegas a lot recently" stuff? She hasn't left Alaska since she returned in May. Her life is work, sports camps for her son and now school, nesting and other kid stuff.

Even if things are pretty obvious, let's not discuss specific personal detail relating to a pregnancy or delivery date. There is so much bs already that gets batted around and spun into bigger lies.

There is a reason she is living privately and is happy back in Alaska with family getting over love she gave up for what she wanted more - her state and HER family. They're both getting over love. Their lives are not your own. They are no different than you. They are acting classy and not wading in the media cesspool.

    Move on.

I don't think so, 6:16pm. There is only one reason why Bristol is "living privately and is happy back in Alaska". That reason is the rest of the country grew tired of her and her attempts to be famous loooooong ago.

If there was **anybody** in Hollywood willing to offer Bristol yet another reality show, nobody in the world honestly believes she would turn it down.

In fact, I will bet anything she has already tried to pitch another reality show....this one being the struggles of raising one bastard child while being pregnant with another bastard child...and she has been repeatedly declined.

I doubt a spoiled, self-absorbed attention whore like Bristol is happy answering phones (and likely making about $11.50 an hour) in a doctor's office when she spent so many years making a ton of money simply for being Bristol Palin.

I imagine being Bristol Palin really sucks right now. And this is why I do believe in karma.

Gave up love for her state and family? Hahahaha! Bristol will never be able to live away from $arah.
Acting classy? Lending your name to a blog written by nancy horseface that is constanly critical of our president and is full of boldface lies is classy and not wading into the media cesspool?
Yes they are completely different then me. I work to support my family and don't spend my time seeking media attention.

What a shame we never got to see the Tina Fey "what do you read?" video, but I guess she got sick of Sarah Palin real fast and I can understand that because most people do.

  13. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

But what I enjoyed more was their showing that Palin was totally clueless that she was the butt of the jokes. She still thought it was great to be on TV and she was doing a great job. She honestly thought this appearance was going to help her. Remember her during that Rap by Amy Poehler? She was enjoying it. She was thrilled with the attention.

Even after it was over, I'm not sure she got it the first time someone explained to her that they were making fun of her. I'll bet the denial lasted for hours, maybe even days.

I think it also drives home the point that it isn't just the main stream media that effectively controls the narrative.

We had Letterman, Stewart and Colbert taking aim and hitting the target. They drew blood. Maybe it was little pricks but they added up.

I think McCain learned most of all you don't piss off Letterman. I still believe Letterman was a major contributor to McCain's downfall.

I just read Tina Fey's book Bossy Pants. At the conclusion of sharing about the six weeks of these skits she wrote that later Palin said Fey and Katie Couric exploited Palin and her family.

I laughed recalling that and Palin claiming anyone exploited her family. She is still exploiting Bristol and using her for a puppet with the Brancey blog. Fey made her point that Palin wanted to do the show, brought Bristol and even offered to have Bristol babysit. Fey shared her concern and SNL strategy that Palin not get booed. When Fey did the SNL Couric interview using Palin's own words that must have angered Palin to hear the laughter. If she only knew how people reacted in their own homes by her performance of incoherent word salad tossing around talking points!

Thanks, brought back great memories, Tina Fey ripped Sarah to shreds using her own words and insecurities as ammo, A sign of a great satirist and comedian.
I suppose I owe Sarah a shout out,
If not for her obscurity, I never would have found you and other Ak bloggers,

This and the debate with Joe Biden skit are my favorite SNL skits of all time. I'm hoping for some great Trump skits this season.
