On the latest Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took on the current migrant crisis in Europe to call out the troubling way some world leaders, including "noted swine fellatio enthusiast" David Cameron, and the media choose to characterize the situation.
"When you're dealing with a mass of people that large, you really want to be a little careful with how you describe them," Oliver said.
"Here in the US, some in the media have chosen to reduce the migrant population to one single stereotype," he adds, before showing a Fox News clip featuring the misleading caption, "Terrorists Inbound? Taking refugees could open door to jihadists."
Now I know what you're thinking, "Holy crap this video is almost 18 minutes long! That is an eternity in internet time, I can sit still long enough to watch this whole damn thing!"
I both hear you and understand your hesitance.
So I will promise you that if you watch this entire video you will have a warm feeling at the end that will make your evening just that much better.
It has to do with an amazing young woman named Noujain Mustafa, and it is well worth your time to see.
I promise.
I saw this when it aired last night. I just love this man. I truly, legitimately, LOVE him. Yet another goldmine brought forth from the mighty mind of Jon Stewart. We owe him so much.

It is funny how anyone can criticize palin children on this blog in very nasty ways, but if someone mildly criticizes certain people, the comment is not allowed through. Hmm...

I watched it this morning on HBO Now. I got that just so I could watch Bill Maher and John Oliver.
ReplyDeleteWith Stewart gone they are the last sane voices speaking truth to the public regarding politics and the economy.
John put a face to this crisis and basically dared anyone to say they would refuse refuge for this girl.
Me? I'd be glad to welcome the young man who would not leave his puppy behind so he only had a small backpack, some of which was to hold stuff for the puppy. So very few belongings. He walked much of the journey (300 miles) and carried his puppy when she got tired. (Her name is Rose.)

ReplyDeleteI was angry that the video that was used by certain media to display the "hordes of possible terrorist immigrants" was several years old and fairly innocent. John Oliver, once again, called out the fear mongers and hypocrites. He does that so efficiently and humorously that it's a thing of beauty. Too bad he's preaching to the choir. The ones that need to see this will not as they are already brainwashed.
