As you might imagine Florida is not at all happy that their Senator Marco Rubio hates his job, and has decided not to do it anymore.

"Wow debating is hard too. I'd quit if there weren't so many cameras on me."
In response to an interview during which Rubio said that he was not seeking reelection by way of explaining why he was missing votes, and a statement by a friend claiming that Rubio "hates" the Senate, the editorial board at the Sun Sentinel wrote this op-ed:

Sorry, senator, but Floridians sent you to Washington to do a job. We've got serious problems with clogged highways, eroding beaches, flat Social Security checks and people who want to shut down the government.

If you hate your job, senator, follow the honorable lead of House Speaker John Boehner and resign it.

Let us elect someone who wants to be there and earn an honest dollar for an honest day's work. Don't leave us without one of our two representatives in the Senate for the next 15 months or so. You are paid $174,000 per year to represent us, to fight for us, to solve our problems. Plus you take a $10,000 federal subsidy — declined by some in the Senate — to participate in one of the Obamacare health plans, though you are a big critic of Obamacare.

You are ripping us off, senator.

For all of you out there biting your fingernails at the prospect that Rubio will face off against Hillary Clinton in the general election, and offer her a real challenge, I think you can put those concerns to rest.

Personally I never understood the attraction to Rubio, and his poll numbers have certainly never reflected any substantial support.

However now I think it is safe to say that he has ZERO chance of winning this GOP nomination.

By essentially quitting Rubio has for all intents and purposes Sarah Palin'd himself.

After let's not forget that this is still only Rubio's first term as a Senator and he is already hating his job, and looking for an easier gig. Which for reasons that totally escape me, he seems to believe describes the job of President of the United States.

Yeah, stick a fork in him, he's done.

Hilary Clinton will select Julian Castro as her VP. He has a better story than Marco Rubio.

Hopeful Hillary will NOT get the nomination. There are other Democrats running. I guess you folks forgot that.

Hillary is not a shoo-in to win the nomination. You all thought she was a shoo-in in 2008 too, and we all know how that turned out. Senator Obama knocked her out of the water. It might happen to her again.

Bernie is not Obama. And O'Malley is a good guy, but I don't see him over taking Hillary. Frankly, she has more experience, intelligence and guts than anyone on either side.

Hillary Clinton has my vote and I can hardly wait to see her as our next POTUS!!! She has far, far more experience than any of the Republicans in the mix.

I like Bernie, but think she'd be better due to her experience.

Oh. I don't know, Gryph. I don't think he's done according to the GOP. After all, who else do they (the establishment) have? Jeb! is done. If they don't pull Mittens out of mothballs, who's left? I keep hearing/reading that Rubio won it. Now, I can't see Rubio holding his own in a debate with any of the democrats, but who else do they have? After all, according to a few pundits, he's the "GOP's Obama."

"He palin'd himself", "stick a fork in him, he's done" - spot-on description Gryphen! By having a fork stuck in him, Rubio "impalin'd" himself! As the op-ed states clearly, Rubio is nothing but another quitter, whiner, and grifter, just like you-know-who!!

Rubio is not wealthy ... he will quit to go make big money like Sarah did.

Lobbyist, Fox News, DWTS ... whatever brings him the money.

Rubio started his career here in florida already Palined. Like many, he ran in local politics to have insider info on real estate deals. The Miami Herald has been on top of his shady real estate deals for years, even tho' he wasn't very good at it. Then he started believing the FL GOP big wig hype that he was an up and comer.

OT I watched Palin on Newsmax. She can not stick to a question without knocking down or mocking someone else that has nothing to do with the question or her opinion of someone. She goes off randomly spouting her tired talking points in her folksy "doggone" vocabulary. She is so weak or such a suck up she takes the position all of them did great.

Personally, I believe the governor should have "a little talk" with the fool. Will he? Probably not - unless the population starts screaming bloody murder. And the op-ed from the Sun Sentinel is a great start.

And, naturally, if THAT happens, his bid for POTUS will die as well. And guess what. He deserves it!

Where did these people get the idea that quitting while still taking the money is legitimate - or legal? (And no, I don't believe it started with SP, either. Or did she continue to take money from the state?)

  9. His response to Jeb! was nothing more than "Waah, you can't pick on me because everyone else did it too and you didn't yell at them."

I don't understand why this was considered a clever response.

He hates his job and doesn't plan to carry out his responsibilities. Fine, no problem. Then quit, and stop taking pay for a job you refuse to do.

I don't think Republican primary voters will care about this - they don't want congress to work anyway.

The only positive I can see about Rubio is that he is photogenic. Other than that, zip. Not. Presidential. Material.

That's if you consider having ears bigger than Dumbo as photogenic.

Oh, you're right; I had forgotten about those massive ears. I guess he could have them pinned back a little but they are still huge.

I can't imagine why any of them think that it's a good idea to insult the media. Guess who puts them on TV and allows them to talk without being questioned or fact checked.

I think the media is actually promoting Rubio as to the last debate. I'm, personally, not impressed with the kid. He's not doing the current job for which he was elected (U.S. Senate) and that in itself negates my vote!!

The Republican debates have no substance which was the fault of those in the media that provided the questions.

I can't agree with you on this one. I think he will be the nominee because he is the least offensive of the lot of them.

Isn't it interesting how Republicans, who hate government, all want to be part of it? At the very least, Marco Rubio should resign from the Senate. I cannot imagine him as president. He would want to stop doing the job after the first two weeks.

  16. I appreciate your coming up with the past tense verb "Sarah Palin'd," Gryphen. Great way to phrase a useful concept.

People who run to be President need to want it so bad they can taste it, elections are a grueling process and you need a pretty thick skin. Rubio never seemed like he really wants the job. Sure, he gets uber thirsty when frothing at the mouth, but he just doesn't have that drive. He thinks having a last name that ends in a vowel makes him a shoo in for the hispanic vote, beyond that, and he's sorely mistaken.

Thanks for the laughs, "He Sarah Palin'd himself".

Marco Rubio (in Sarah Palin's fingernails-on-a-chalkboard whine) "this is haarrrd and I don't wanna do it anymore. So I'm gonna quit and lead from behind."

  20. He also has ZERO chance of re-election when he back tracks on that decision after he fails to make the GOP Presidential ticket, should his campaign last that long.

He is going to be in major campaign debt. The only reasonable way he has to raise money to pay off that debt is to run for the senate again.

And I'm pretty confident that the voters aren't going to re-elect him. Even though the incumbent usually has an edge.

I think Rubio has put that edge directly into his own back.

    Unassisted.
