I am all for this plan.

Maybe we should start with those photos of the children murdered in Sandy Hook, whose bodies were so badly damaged that they were considered too gruesome to share with the public.

Maybe, just maybe, THAT will be enough to get them of their fat asses and convince them to write some laws to protect us.

  1. You just don't get it G. The so called pro life crowd is not pro life at all. They are pro forced birth.

Once the baby is born, they are done. No help for the baby, no concern for the baby being shot or growing up to fight and die in all the wars these same folks are seemingly wanting.

I own guns for the sole reason of needing them in case this same crowd tries to takeover the government (like 40% of those polled said they were for the other day). But even I have had enough. Something must be done and if that means giving up the guns or have a system of gun registration, then I will do it.

Enough is enough. This is enough.

I'm another firearms owner. I have weapons because where I live on a remote country road , the law could take 1/2 hour to get to my house.

I'm 100% for getting laws changed so that you need the following to own firearms:

      1) be 21 years old
      2) have a 100% clean record, with no convictions for felonies
      3) have a background check that INCLUDES mental health issues or violence
      4) take a training class from qualified instructors
      5) register your weapons with local police

Common sense stuff that the gun fanatics never will support.

These same people from the NRA live EVERY DAY with a ban on many types of weapons that they are NOT allowed to own or use. (machine guns, rocket launchers, grenades)

Why aren't they marching on Washington demanding to be able to have their own Cruise missile systems?

Add, all guns must come with a safety/trigger lock. If you have children in the house, or when you have a child, you must watch a gun (owned by the parent) blow a kid to smithereens and the aftermath - I mean, if they want to force pregnant women to watch ultrasounds, surely gun owners "deserve" the same "care."

Amen to all of the above. Would love to see this happen, but, ... maybe in a perfect world? Or another administration...I personally learned to shoot when I was about 10-11. Didn't care for guns, don't own one and don't want one in my house. However, if owners can be r-e-s-p-o-n-s-i-b-l-e, I can live with that. firstwife

Except that those so-called PP pictures are not PP pictures.

And the gun violence pictures are REAL.

    Therefore: no contest.

Now that he's had a front row seat to see what a gun violence massacre looks like, I wonder if that asshole sheriff from Roseburg Oregon still thinks Sandy Hook was a hoax?

Don't know if he thinks its a hoax or not, but he was concerned enough to try to scrub his facebook page. So, I figure either he isn't willing to stand behind his beliefs, or he's another RWNJ who denies, denies, denies. And, for sure, he's too stupid to realize the internet is forever. Keep in mind, he's also one of the treasonous members of law enforcement (like members of Oathkeepers) who favor doing away with the Constitution when it challenges/prohibits behavior he believes in.
As a thinking person, it is hard to live in Southern Oregon. I'm surrounded by RWNJs, and most of them are 'packing' because 'Freedom'. In fact, last year, I stopped attending a Grange Pancake Breakfast (yep, full of small children) because the powers that be thought it was perfectly acceptable to allow open carry at breakfast.

  4. Jim Wright of Stonekettle Kitchen suggested in a post a few months ago that a solution to the shootings might be to "make the NRA’s own rules federal law".

Seemed as good a plan as any to me.

Would photos of horrific deaths penetrate the psyches of NRA- bought congressmen/women if the photos weren't of their own children/family shot down?

Even if they were, they would still bow down to the NRA and gun fetishists.

  6. I've been saying this very thing since Sandy Hook. Show the carnage of dead first graders and their teachers. Or if you think it's too much for delicate eyes, show the room AFTER the shootings. But we need to fight fire with fire. It's too late to sit back and worry about delicate eyes.

Nothing else will help in this gun-control movement. Actually, the only other thing that would help is if one or more family members of NRA leaders were gunned down.

I am just really sick of this continual carnage. It's past acceptable. No one "needs" an assault weapon or rapid loader. No one...other than someone planning on killing lots of people.

"the only other thing that would help is if one or more family members of NRA leaders were gunned down. "

I've been saying the same thing for years. We've even had a member of Congress shot and there was no reaction. (Of course, she was from the 'wrong' party, so that may have been a factor in their lack of concern.)

We've seen over and over again that Republicans only consider the opposite point of view when it affects them personally. How many times have we seen one of them suddenly change their minds about laws that discriminate against the LGBT community when their own child comes out as gay? It matters nothing to them that the vast majority of the people they're supposed to represent feel a certain way. It's only when something affects THEM or their immediate family that is finally becomes important.

I think you are giving them too much credit. The death of a family member to gun violence would affect them not a fraction as much as NRA's and voting gun humpers displeasure. These people ha

The NRA is responsible for 406,496 very late term abortions from 2001-2013 alone. (CDC source). Add at least another 70,000 and counting since 2013. An "aborted" life is an aborted life. The Republicans are very much pro-abortion.

I see buttons between the end of the article and the beginning of the comments. I gather that you don't. What do you suppose could be the difference between your stated willingness to back up your opinions and mine?

For pointing out how many ways your comment could have been interpreted? If you had posted "YES!!!!!" as a response (using its Reply link) to Anonymous 6:04 AM's 'You really do need a "like" button' rather than as a response to the article, there would have been no ambiguity. And on my screen, there are buttons.

We had to watch a road carnage movie when I was in drivers' ed. I've never forgotten some of the images.

Take the father of the reporter who was shot on camera, fleeing for her life. He's determined now to change gun laws. What if he were to post the picture of his beautiful daughter with a bullet hole in her head? Could he stand it? Could he do it? Could any of the family members of last week's shoooting? Things like that can be powerful.

You are right. I had to watch a couple of those horrible car wreck movies while in high school and I never forgot their gruesomeness. One girl ran out of the room in tears. I was horrified and had nightmares for months. Horrible images. I think Gryphen is right. I think it would be great to even start mailing these idiotic representatives pictures of the victims of gun violence on a regular basis and to the damn NRA and their supporters too.If a million people can march on Washington, then why can't the same happen in memory of those killed by gun violence. Maybe it there was a violent attack at NRA headquarters, they would change, but I doubt it. The gun lobby has way too much power.
