Jeb Bush's response to the massacre in Oregon: "Stuff happens."

Courtesy of Rolling Stone:

"Stuff happens," said Jeb Bush Friday, in response to this week's shooting at an Oregon community college that left nine deceased victims and 10 injured.

Speaking at a campaign event in Greenville, South Carolina, the Republican presidential candidate said, "Look, stuff happens. There's always a crisis. And the impulse is always to do something, and it's not necessarily the right thing to do."

Asked by a reporter if he stood by his choice of words, Bush doubled down, saying, "No, it wasn't a mistake. I said exactly what I said. Why would you explain to me what I said wrong?"

Thanks for doubling down on the insensitivity there Jeb! I guess that is just in case we didn't already know you were a dick.

Apparently Donald Trump had a similarly dismissive attitude:

"You're going to have these things happen and it's a horrible thing to behold, horrible," Trump said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"It's not politically correct to say that, but you're going to have difficulty and that will be for the next million years, there's going to be difficulty and people are going to slip through the cracks," Trump added. "What are you going to do, institutionalize everybody?"

Yeah people are going to slip through the cracks, and you can't institutionalize everybody, so why do anything?

Now compare that with our President's passionate call for us to address this crisis of mass shootings, and to take steps to minimize or prevent them altogether.

Also compare it to Hillary Clinton's response:

"I have to tell you, Janet, I am just sick of this," Clinton told Janet Wu of the Boston ABC affiliate WCVB Thursday evening. "I'm sick about it, and I feel an absolute urgency for this country to start being sensible about keeping guns away from people who should not have them."

"I think that what we need is a national movement," she continued. "What the NRA does in their single-minded, absolutist theology about the Second Amendment being sacrosanct -- when we know that every constitutional right and amendment can be tailored in an appropriate way without breaching the Constitution -- but what they do is to so intimidate and scare legislators because they make it into a single issue for voting."

"I'm going to try to do everything I can as president to raise up an equally large and vocal group that is going to prove to be a counterbalance," she said. "And we're going to tell legislators, do not be afraid. Stand up to these people because a majority of the population and a majority of gun owners agree that there should be universal background checks. And the NRA has stood in the way."

As if we needed another reason to turn out in 2016 to keep the Republicans out of the White House.

New reports on the shooter reveal that the shooter was a mentally ill, white supremacist who was equipped with a flak jacket, was carrying six different firearms, and seems to have targeted Christians.

Of course his motivations, or his mental state, are only peripherally important as the main reason these shootings occurred is because of how easy it is to access guns in this country.

Until we seriously address that issue, this nightmare will never end.

Jeb and his family have no connection to ordinary people. They do no understand ordinary people and they cannot relate to them. I remember his mother looking at a stadium full of former New Orleans residents who escaped Katrina's flood waters. Barbara thought that it was working out very well for them, after all, they didn't have anything before, and now, they had a nice place to stay and someone gave them free food. The condescending Bushes have no empathy.

I remember Barbara saying that about the survivors of Katrina (this is working out well for them), and I will never forget how completely out-of-touch she revealed herself to be.

I always thought that "the boys" must surely be sharper than they appeared to be, but now Jeb(!) is opening his mouth enough we can see that he may be the stupidest one of all.

They may not be out-right evil, but they are surely banal in the brain.

The fact that the daughters of both Bush and Clinton consider their families to be "family" (together) sure causes me pause about Hilary too.

"Asked afterward about the “stuff happens” comment, Mr. Bush said, “it wasn’t a mistake,” and requested that a reporter point out “what I said wrong.”

“Things happen all the time,” Mr. Bush said. “Things. Is that better?”

Asked what he meant, Mr. Bush said he was talking more generally about the tendency to pass laws in response to tragic events.

“Tragedies,” he said. “A child drowned in a pool and the impulse is to pass a law that puts fencing around pools. Well it may not change it. Or you have a car accident and the impulse is to pass a law that deals with that unique event. And the cumulative effect of this is, in some cases, you don’t solve the problem by passing the law, and you’re imposing on large numbers of people burdens that make it harder for our economy to grow, make it harder to protect liberty.”

    So says the Washington Post.

You don't suppose Jeb! could have made another mistake? With the last name Bush? Gawker has the details!

My sister in law has a pool, and while part of it is fenced, the area from the two patios to the pool is not, so basically anyone can get to it if they desire. She's in a red part of Ohio, so I don't know what the laws are, but she has a bunch of young grandkids, and this scares me to death every time I think about it. The kids are also not good swimmers...they all still wear floats when they are in the water, even the six year old. Teach the kids to swim, put up a fence to protect the neighbors (and your money!) and stop being so dumb. She also has an 'out building' that is a small house for the kids...has electricity, a loft bed, and probably a little furnace. The woman has more money than God thanks to her second husband, and instead of doing Christian things with it (helping others?) she spends it all on more stuff for the grandkids. Needless to say, she is very popular among her children and their children.

It's not something that "happens" like a flood, a bad snowstorm, even a car accident. Jeb Bush as President would be laughable. He has no feelings, no political instinct, no ability to lead when we have a disaster. No judgment, no intelligence.
