Lincoln Chafee drops out, Donald Trump drops to second, and Paul Ryan takes on the worst job in Washington.

Courtesy of NPR:

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee ended his long-shot presidential bid on Friday.

"As you know, I have been campaigning on a platform of Prosperity Through Peace. But after much thought I have decided to end my campaign for president today," Chafee announced at the Democratic National Committee Women's Leadership Forum.

The onetime Republican turned independent turned Democrat is the second candidate to withdraw this week, following former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb's announcement on Tuesday that he was ending his Democratic bid.

I CANNOT imagine that this comes as much of a surprise to anybody who watched Chafee flail around during that Democratic debate.

I am sure that Lincoln Chafee is a great guy and all, but he simply did not belong on the stage with the likes of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

Going forward I think that Martin O'Malley should hit the sticks and leave the upcoming debates between Hillary Clinton making the case for why she should be President, and Bernie Sanders standing beside her to keep her honest.

In other news it looks like Donald Trump has finally, at least temporarily, lost his death grip on the top of the polls:

Ben Carson is beating Donald Trump for the first time in Iowa, according to a new poll among likely Iowa Republican caucusgoers — even though he’s taking a break from campaigning.

Carson is officially the new state favorite, leading with 28 percent over Trump’s 20 percent. Senator Marco Rubio follows with 13 percent, and then Senator Ted Cruz with 10 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll Thursday.

This is undoubtedly especially galling to Donald Trump as currently Ben Carson is on a book tour and not even campaigning.

Which might explain why Donald Trump retweeted this after hearing the news.

Of course then Trump blamed the tweet on an "intern" because that is what asshole politicians do.

Of course the big news of yesterday WOULD have been (You know if that whole Hillary Clinton witch hunt had not eaten up all of the airtime.) that this guy is now actively seeking the job of Speaker of the House.

Oh yeah THAT'S going to be such an improvement over the alcoholic orange Oompa Loompa who is currently refusing to do the job.

Speaking of falling down the rabbit hole, did you hear this about the Jeb! campaign?

Courtesy of Politico:

Jeb Bush on Friday ordered across-the-board pay cuts to his struggling presidential campaign.

Staffers were informed of the news of a Friday conference call.

On the call, staffers were informed that job functions would change for some and that there would be across the board pay cuts.

One person on the Friday morning staff call said they were left with the impression that "very few people will be left in Miami."

Wait, I thought Bush was drowning in contributions. How in the hell can he be going broke?

Well it appears that the marquee event of a Clinton vs Bush contest is now seriously in doubt.

I don't know, watching Hillary chop Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, or Donald Trump into bite size pieces just does not seem nearly as satisfying.

Jeb's tanking so badly must be a horrible embarrassment to the Republican party. He has proven himself not to be good material for the highest job in our country!

If he does win the nomination for the Republican party (which I seriously doubt), it will only be due to the money that is and will be behind him. Sick as that is to say!

That's great and all, but I wish Hillary would drop out. If she's the nominee, I'll vote for her, albeit reluctantly and with disgust. But I hope she's not the nominee because we will lose.

9:28 AM What have you been reading and drinking? You need to pay closer attention to what is currently being written about her. She's winning substantially in the polls and came out as the star in that ridiculous committee hearing yesterday.

She will be the nominee and I expect her to be our next POTUS. Can hardly wait to cast my vote for her!

      Hillary’s Best Week Yet

... “She’s had the kind of couple of weeks that you pray for in presidential politics,” says Bob Shrum, the veteran Democratic consultant who has not shrunk in recent months from noting Clinton’s political vulnerabilities.

When they originally scheduled Thursday’s hearing, House Republicans had hoped to turn the Benghazi investigation into a Soviet show trial, knocking Clinton further down after a summer that’s seen her consistently playing defense. But by the time she actually sat down on Capitol Hill Thursday, Clinton didn’t have to make any real effort to paint the Benghazi inquiry as partisan. In all-too-honest statements, Republicans from House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy on down had already done that for her—and it was left largely to the committee’s ranking member, Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, to attack the motives of the Republican Chairman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, while Clinton pleaded for statesmanship and a bipartisan approach to diplomacy in a dangerous world.

“She’s very fortunate the committee did not grant her request to let her do this earlier,” Shrum says. “The Republicans always overplay their hand, especially when it comes to the Clintons—and they’re doing it again.”

      http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/10/hillary-clinton-2016-debate-biden-benghazi-best-week-213285

Gowdy and fellow Republicans became increasingly agitated as Thursday’s hearings wore on. Hillary Clinton schooled the panel repeatedly. A seemingly frustrated Trey Gowdy went on the defensive from the outset, insisting repeatedly that the investigation was not about Hillary Clinton and denying that the hearing was politically motivated.

Yet the more that Gowdy and his sycophants fumed, the clearer it became that the committee’s sole purpose was to try to prosecute Hillary Clinton for her misdeeds, be they real or imagined. Gowdy’s impotent rage highlighted the chairman’s thin skin. Ironically, Gowdy crumbled in the face of mild criticism, even though the accusations that his actions were politically motivated were true and patently obvious to anybody but the most die-hard Republican partisan.

Trey Gowdy and House Republicans have cynically tried to exploit the Benghazi attack to try to pummel Hillary Clinton and influence the outcome of the 2016 election. They may succeed in influencing the outcome of the election, but perhaps not in the way they had intended. Gowdy can scream and holler that the investigation isn’t a prosecution of Hillary Clinton, but his protests are not fooling anybody. Gowdy’s insistent denial of what is absurdly obvious, only reveals how pathetically insignificant he and his phony investigative committee have become.

You're crazy. Hillary has a much better chance than Bernie Sanders. I love Bernie but he's been branded a "socialist". The ignorant of this country don't even know what a socialist is but by gum they won't ever vote for one.

How Fox News Proved That Hillary Clinton Won The Benghazi Games

...But the real indication that this hearing was a total bust for the Republican scandal machine was that Fox News cut out long before it was over. Both CNN and MSNBC covered the eleven hour hearing wall-to-wall, but Fox News bailed after only seven hours, when they flipped back to their regularly scheduled programming (The Five). So they left out fully one-third of the proceedings. Do you think they would have done that if they thought that Clinton was bombing? Of course not. They were more worried that she looked strong, confident, knowledgeable, and (gasp) presidential. That was something they didn’t want their viewers exposed to, so the decision was made to ditch the live hearings and return to their panel of wingnut pundits on whom they could rely for continued Clinton bashing.

To underscore the significance of this editorial cowardice, we must remember that Fox News has always been the network most obsessed with Benghazi. They even celebrated their own reporting, and particularly their CEO Roger Ailes, for being the “driving force” pushing to “keep Benghazi alive.” After devoting that much effort to turn a tragedy into political theater, Fox wouldn’t even stick with the live broadcast of the headlining act.

    7. No. We won't.

(According to Moody's the Democrats take the White House in 2016.)

No matter who the Democrats put on the ticket, Hillary, Bernie, or both, the GOP clown car will crash. They don't have one candidate that has a chance against either Hillary or Bernie.

Ryan still needs the votes. The t-baggers think he's a liberal (haha). He's going to have to get some Dem votes to get the speaker position. Nancy Pelosi was the only one in recent history who could handle the job.

    2. He'll be working a 40 hour week and taking all of the weekends off. So much for fund raising and schmoozing those ultra wealthy oligarchs.

One positive is that he probably won't be a future Presidential candidate and if so, won't win. House Speakers don't become Presidents.

I have to admire the RWNJ's for one thing - in the case of Bush they've proven that money can't buy everything. The squeaky wheels get the grease. Too bad the Dems didn't squeak loud & strong enough in 2012!

Ryan is not to be trusted. It's so apparent and was when he ran with Mitt Romney! He should work just like the rest of the members in Congress and get no special considerations as Speaker of the House!

He is not better than any of the others and deserves nothing except his pay check - IF he actually earns it for the people that elected him!

The media supports him massively which is absolutely ridiculous. He did something to get the votes for taking the position of Speaker of the House. And, he's no better than John Boehner....they come from the same cloth!

    2. It just shows how f'n deranged the right has become that they consider some Ayn Rand fan boy to be their moderate leader. It's gonna be fun times watching Ryan try to keep the Freedom Caucus nut jobs in line.

As CNN is now reporting, “Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez on MSNBC called Ryan one of the smartest men in the GOP. ‘He would be good for the country,’ Gutierrez said. ‘He would be good for the Republican Party. Paul Ryan is the kind of individual that would work with people on the other side of the aisle and that’s what we need.'”

That is all the reason teabaggers need to hate on Paul Ryan. You've got Ann Coultergeist leading the pack on Brietbart saying, 'Vote For Paul Ryan Is Vote For Amnesty': Luis Gutierrez Endorses Paul Ryan For Speaker

I don't understand the media's positive commentary when it comes to Paul Ryan. I thought he was a horrible candidate when he ran w/Mitt Romney and won't trust him as far as I can throw him as Speaker of the House.

What did he promise to other members to get their support to gain the numbers he wanted? He has one huge ego and it's only going to get bigger unless his new job brings him down as it did Boehner!
