Marco Rubio will not seek reelection to his Senate seat. Instead focusing on winning the White House.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

Marco Rubio is a U.S. senator. And he just can’t stand it anymore.

“I don’t know that ‘hate’ is the right word,” Rubio said in an interview. “I’m frustrated.”

This year, as Rubio runs for president, he has cast the Senate — the very place that cemented him as a national politician — as a place he’s given up on, after less than one term. It’s too slow. Too rule-bound. So Rubio, 44, has decided not to run for his seat again. It’s the White House or bust.

“That’s why I’m missing votes. Because I am leaving the Senate. I am not running for reelection,” Rubio said in the last Republican debate, after Donald Trump had mocked him for his unusual number of absences during Senate votes.

Well I think we all know that Rubio is not winning the presidential election so it looks like he is done in politics for awhile.

And once again it seems that at least part of the reason is Donald Trump mocking him.

Just to sum up, Trump was also partially responsible for Scott Walker and Rick Perry dropping out, and is currently destroying the Jeb Bush campaign.

Which means that for all intents and purposes Donald Trump is now officially the worst thing to happen to the Republican party since Sarah Palin.

Who is he, Cartman? "Screw you guys, I'm going home!" Wish I had a job where I could shirk my responsibilities and still get paid for it. Hell, if I was the voters, I'd call for a recall or impeachment since he has admitted he is purposefully not doing the job they elected him to do. He's acting like a spoiled brat and needs a time out.

    1. You’re right, his voters should do a recall election and find someone who will truly represent them and have their heart into it. Being a Floridian, if I find anyone trying to get the signatures for a recall, I’ll join them.

"And if I grow disenchanted with the presidency, then I'll just not show up for THAT job, too. Sometimes you get a job and then find out that it's ...hard, ya know? Oh, I know I promised the voters I'd do the job if they elected me, but, you know: Fuck the voters." Rubio did not add.

He's leaving the Senate so he's like, "That's it for me, people who elected me your representative. Forget you and the fact that I'm still your Senator. I'm just going to take my paycheck and run for president."

    1. He doesn't like rules but he wants to be Commander in Chief and swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States, which is the basis for all of our "rules".

      Good riddance.

He's the reason nothing gets done in Congress. Him and his 'bagger friends.

More of them should follow his lead, drop out and not campaign for re-election.

  5. I have yet to see credible evidence that Trump is not actually working to destroy EVERY Republican candidate, only to admit before the election that he just wanted America to see what phonies they all were--and then go back to being the reality show host he was, before.

Trump is hardly that altruistic. Despite his obscene wealth and loud-mouth posturing that the media is only too eager to provide a platform for, Trump's constant belittling of others only displays his deep-seated sense of insecurity. His only purpose in destroying other candidates is to stroke his own ego.

The senate is boring. He doesn't want to vote. He thinks federal workers should be fired if they don't do their jobs---but he wants to be president . . . . What a joke this man is. His poll numbers will probably go up in the gop.

    2. He's currently in 4th place at 8% behind Cruz at 9%, Trump at 19.5% and Carson at 28.7%. Jeb Bush is at 5.7%, a real come down.

I think anyone below 5% needs to just quit. That would be Fiorina, Jindal, Kasich, Paul, Huckabee, Christie, Santorum and Graham. Yeah, Lindsey Graham has dropped out but he's still polling at 0.1%.

Does Rubio think that quiting his day job will really help him in the polls? Like he'll replace Cruz for third place at say 10%? Yeah, that's really going to help him.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous6:28 AM

His logic is apparently "that interview went well, I think I'll quit my current job now rather than waiting to see if I'm actually offered the new position".

  9. Since he hasn’t been represent his constituents by casting his votes in the Senate, why would anybody expect him to be a good President? He made a promise to represent his constituents in the Senate, but after after holding office for just a couple of years he abandons them to pursue his own self interests. This is a pure and simple case of someone who should have never had been elected in the first place. Reminds me of what Palin did. I think his political career is over, or at least I hope it is.

    1. Jeb is currently polling below 6% so he might turn some attention to Cruz and Rubio who are at 9% and 8%.

But Jeb is really his competition. Because if Jeb can hang in there as all of the others drop out, if it is between him, Carson and Trump no matter how the Republicans vote, the GOP will put Jeb on the ticket. He is simply the least crazy and alienating of the bunch. Jeb also has the most chance against Hillary/Bernie.

So pretty much Carson, Trump and the rest are wasting their time. The GOP is not going to put a 'bagger or a crazy on the ticket.

There's a boy in the second grade class I work in that often whines, loudly, "I don't WANNA do my work!" He's seven years old.

He loses recess because he's not doing his job.

This boy knows if he doesn't do his work in class he'll be doing it during recess.

Yes, children need recess. But they also need to learn discipline.

He's having his recess in class while everyone else is trying to do their work.

IMO a candidate for home schooling.

He can get exercise by walking around inside the classroom if he doesn't want to do his JOB. Kids who are allowed to get away with not doing their JOB end up like Rubio.

    1. Pretty much.

You're paying him to run for President instead.

Because what are you going to do to him? He's not running for re-election of his Senate seat.

I guess he hasn't figured out that the same people that voted him into the Senate will be voting for the presidential election. And they're less likely to vote for a lazy scoflaw.

(What happens if he is elected president and decides not to run for a second term because being president is hard and it sucks? Is he going to spend the rest of his term on vacation and playing golf?)

Part of the reason he is not running for re-election is that Florida law requires elected officials to resign from one post once they officially register to run for another post.
Which is one reason most Florida politicians wait until the last second to officially register to run for an office.
